It is not the scooter. It is the immaturity of the people that is the problem. Do you want more cars instead? Cars cost more and pollute more. Also, instead of trying to regulate the things, let the market do its job. If people hate it, scooter companies will go out of business.

You do realize your vaunted "market" gave us cars, right? You do know every major US city used to have great urban trains and trolleys until the car companies, through the "market", bought them and trashed them, so people would buy cars?

    • @pureumkim5154

@@markbenton1300 Excellent point. It is true that car companies ruined a lot of public transportation through lobbying. But also Americans had a yearning for the American Dream, living in suburbs in large houses. Cheaper cars enabled that to happen. Once everyone had cars because they wanted to live in the suburbs, the public transportation withered.

I live in SF and I can't wait to buy my E-Scooter next month. I do theorize that SF has issues with it because you save money on having to buy a car, the insurance, and parking (which is nuts here in SF) and I believe all 3 entities work together to try to get rid of these efficiencies so they can stay in business. So the Xiao-Mi scooter is 450 on amazon and if its 2 dollars per ride, all it takes is 225 rides to be able to break even for a scooter and my colleagues scooter has lasted him more than a year now so it is extremely cost efficient, and if not on sports mode, can travel up to 15-18 miles or 10-12 mile straight uphill. In a place as expensive as SF, I feel like you need these scooters as a means to actually save money

pedestrians on scooters are still pedestrians just on small mobile platforms , and don't people in cars become more dangerous as soon as they start to move, and they also take up loads more space and pollute the air, and how many people get killed in car accidents when traveling on E scooters?, and they say the scooters are dangerous , well yes if you get hit by a car or truck they are, so it stands to reason that the car is still more dangerous than a scooter , so using that logic should we not ban cars and give the towns and city's up to cleaner E vehicles and micro transport . just saying .

These could be the solution to traffic congestion. They’re more manoeuvrable than a bike, and they can be carried on a train, or in a car, and recharged indoors.
But they need to be used responsibly: Stored away tidily. Banned or speed-limited on pavements. And ridden sensibly on roads.

Literally it’s the public that needs to adjust and scooter riders need to follow all the traffic laws. Everybody will be fine. That first horseless carriage wasn’t supposed to last either but woopsies. Some ride like the rules don’t apply and that has to stop. People need to wear helmets too. My Ninebot Max tops out at 18.5 mph. You don’t want to contact the pavement at that speed. Here we are offered a sane solution to traffic pollution and it makes people angry. That’s a stupid as the first guy on a horse laughing at the first car. Get over it. Get your own and stop complaining. Saying "like they always say, no one washes a rental car" is the most ignorant comment regarding this space. Rental cars are cleaned and washed....by the rental companies after use. Creating a servicing/maintenance arm under the direction of [insert scooter company] creates jobs and product/service responsibility pushing competition between companies to create better and therefore cleaner/more durable products. Legislation against scooters are back by crowded-out car companies unable to force more product in a maxed out area (urban metros). Critical thinking skills, learn them.
