I like that Geras actually agrees to an extent that perhaps Liu Kang shouldn't meddle with individual destinies so acutely. Liu Kang, even when nigh omnipotent, was not completely above prior prejudices, and yet actually has the introspection to acknowledge them as another reason to step down from Keeper of Time. Puts a human touch on divinity.
Their interactions have this tensity to them, and I can't shake the idea Geras exists specifically because Liu Kang began to succumb to madness.
Maybe there's a timeline Geras doesn't know about, since he didn't exist then. I think we're going to find out Liu Kang's made many mistakes. I mean they hadn't seen each other in *eons.* That's... odd to me.
@@XXMatt0040XX There's an intro with Smoke that I feel really emphasizes the underlying poison to controlling the Hourglass; "Some threads have to be cut to weave time's fabric."
So, we know Smoke's family was killed, and he was adopted by the Lin Kuei. And Liu Kang must have foreseen that, and yet it still happens, because it ends up being more productive to the grand scheme that Smoke is a Lin Kuei; perhaps Smoke saved his brothers on a few occasions, or his future loyalty to Scorpion's Shirai Ryu was essential to the clan's survival. So Liu Kang was forced to concede that an innocent mother and sister had to die so protectors of Earthrealm had a better chance, and he would have to make similar choices across so many other lives and realms.
Yeah, I can see how that's horrifying and would crush someone's soul over multiple timelines. Kronika just gave up entirely on individuality and tried to force everything into a balance, and Titan Shang Tsung was just sociopathic to begin with so he wouldn't care so long as everything was catered to his whims.

Bi-Han will always go bad, and Scorpion *always* exists in one form or another. We know Quai Liang is more powerful than Bi-Han, it's always been that way. By making Quai Liang Scorpion, we have the most *busted* Scorpion of all time. Only his Deception counterpart compares, where he's literally amped by the Elder Gods to stop Onaga.
And this Scorpion almost stopped Onaga, Shang Tsung, Shao, Havik, and Bi-Han. *In one chapter.* Go rewatch what he does, it's actually insane.
I feel the point would be better if it came from someone other than Shang Tsung, since for the most part Liu Kang's meddling turned out for the better, and in another intro Geras cuts him off and states he only has himself to blame for his sorry state before his Titan counterpart found him.
Two things I've noticed is that both Liu Kang and Geras place a lot of blame on Raiden, judging him without taking into consideration that he didn't have the foresight or prior knowledge they did, and even at his worst as Dark Raiden he never went after anyone who didn't deserve it. Liu Kang also comes from the second timeline, and this shows in some he assumes that Sindel was possibly always evil and Shao's partner in crime.
@@ES-dp6tw Actually you could consider that Liu Kang did the best he could and just chose the best possible outcome, Smoke gaining a family in this timeline that he lost is still much better than being sacrificed as a child and becoming an enenra.
Megan Fox is so good at killing the tension and removing any weight from a characters plight. Underrated comic relief character

Funnily enough, despite her bluster, her race isn't facing an extinction. They could feed upon animals, but choose not to because only sentient food source can sustain their immortality.

Which is why I think he's actually being lead to be a sacrifice. Shao seems to care about him, but he's... Shao.
His ending reeks of unreliable narration. I'm putting potential leaked info below, so don't press the read more button if you don't wanna see it. Personally I don't believe it/Red herring, but spoiler alert nonetheless.
Apparently in a Quan Chi dialogue Reiko actually successfully did it.

I like how when Shao laughs at Raiden- he is genuinely laughing.
He isn't doing it as a taunt, or a way to be cruel, or anything of that sort; he genuinely finds it funny.

I like finally *meeting* Jerrod; he's always been kinda like The Great Kung Lao; mythical in a way. But that's literally just because we never see him. Not even in Deception, where we were the most likely to.
Jerrod is *clearly* the least imposing looking of the royal family. He just looks like a regular guy. But that obviously doesn't mean *weakest.* The dude's will is so strong he dominated a freshly made *Ermac.* And instantly knew how to use his power as Ermac.
I love the idea of Outworld's King, who everyone loved and mourns still, wasn't this *massive* figure, but just a dude. Obviously he must have been really powerful; make no mistake. This is *appearance* based.
Edit: I need to make a point of this; *I'm not saying he was weak. I'm saying appearances can be deceiving; and I really like Outworld's most respected ruler embodying that trope.
Agreed. Even if he hasn't technically gotten over his habit of dying before the story begins, that he made an effective comeback and demonstrated his grit and loyalty is commendable. His brief interaction with Liu Kang, fondly reuniting with his old friend and boldly declaring they'll handle this crisis like all the others, leads one wondering just how they started their camaraderie and what challenges they faced before.
As you say, he definitely left a lasting legacy. Sindel clearly isn't as fond of Liu Kang as her husband was but upholds Jerrod's respect for him, to the point of permitting Li Mei a spot in the tournament, and even the likes of Shao or Reiko never directly besmirch him.
@@ES-dp6tw Oh I never thought of that. I'm *pretty* sure that Shao's father ended up being killed by Liu Kang. Idk why, but I get the feeling that there's a "Do not speak of this" taboo like the Romans had regarding it.
Liu Kang must have done some something *insane.* Whether it's a show of force, sealing Onaga himself, whatever. We know that Mileena's 10,000 years old. We know she's only heard legends of Onaga. Shao *clearly* was around for Onaga. So there's a lot of things you can extrapolate from it.
I also think Liu Kang went a little bit crazy from The Hourglass, it's hinted at too much.
I really like this idea of showing characters that were mentioned in the canon but never got a true hold in the spotlight. Jerrod appearing is so cool and I hope next game we see Harumi as a combatant instead of her just being dead
I don't know if we can strictly call Jerrod JUST a dude. The kind of willpower needed to break through Quan Chi's magic, however briefly, AND put all the other souls inside Ermac in line? That's the kind of strength you don't find every day.

I love how Shao became a tyrannical ruler who only cared about himself to a well respected General who would do anything to protect outworld to later become a rebellion leader to dethrone the new Empress because he believes that the new Empress is not fit to rule. He went from "Fuck the people" to "For the people"
True but the road to hell is paved with good intentions. He does believe in the whole strong and powerful might is right leader thing and a few missteps with the ideal could lead him to becoming an expansion obsessed tyrant again.
I feel like its just an excuse/rationalization to seize power.
Except, if he got power, it'd go back to the former.
@@ergob3907That's because it is. To be fair though, much like Sindel, he had a snake (Shang Tsung) dripping figurative venom in his ear. Only in Shao's case, it went deeper than it ever did with Sindel because there so much more there to be susceptible to Shang Tsung.

In his own way, he's the worst of them all. The sheer self - righteousness in his tone every time he speaks. It's revolting and it just makes me want to fuck up his face even more than what Scorpion did. Kudos to the creative team.
I love how a lot of the kombatants just hate Havik's guts for being so brutal it loses meaning.

I thought that Bi-Han was referring to her relationship with Tanya, which in some way would be more damaging when paired with the dialogue about the pressure to produce a heir.

It's a pity that they didn't make a meeting between General Shao and Shao Kahn in any of the intros. Just like they did the intro for the meeting between Old Kitana and New Kitana. And Rain the magician and Rain the demigod.

Man we came a long way ever since Mortal Kombat showed up at arcades. I remember that. First time I saw it was at a pizza place. Such a big crowd, so of course more people joined to see what was going on. The Pit. The Pit fatality with Lui Kang. That was my introduction to Mortal Kombat. It changed gaming.

Still doesn't change the fact that his betrayal played a part in it.
He definitely didn’t want it to happen, but if it happened, Bi-Han wouldn’t care. He definitely seems to separate the death from his actions even though by Bi-Han working with Shang tsung, he did play some part in causing chaos in our world. Bi han seems to consistently bounce blame away from him and deflect to others and he always thinks he is right
Li Mei's "i can't rest until you are behind the bars" analog to General Shao being said before she says her "prison would be too good for you" brutality phrase would be the perfect thing to happen

Raiden is like Superman. Living in a world made of cardboard. Always taking constgant care not to break something, to break someone. What he had in MK9's final fight was a chance to cut loose and show us all just powerful the Shinto Thunder God really is.

Though can you imagine characters like Wolverine, Spider-Man, and Punisher in a Mortal Kombat game? I can just imagine what the dialogue between Logan and Baraka would be like.

Mortal Kombat 1 has some of the best character savage lines in video gaming.
One of my favourites;
Reiko: "Are you prepared to face Outworld's greatest soldier?"
Syzoth: "I will be, if he ever gets here."
Smoke preaching "every life is sacred" and "I'll save who I can to make up for the ones I can't" sounds funny if you remember that he is assassin. Somebody check Yuri Lowental's script, I think he confused it with Spider-man 2 script 😂
Except the Lin Kuei in the New Era aren't assassins by trade. They're protectors of Earthrealm who work in the shadows. Or at least they were, until Bi Han had his Face-Heel Turn. Now the Shirai Ryu will fill the role the Lin Kuei used to.
They really leaned into him being Sasuke and Peter Parker lol

havik is a mad dog, isn't he. He has been so much into this anachism bullshit that its either "You are with me or against me." Everyone, every realm is an enemy and only he is right. How delusional one can be. And Shao dares talk to Liu kang as to why he interferes in Outworld's business. Like he hasn't seen how Shao ruins the realms time and again. ANd the audacity to plunge Outworld into constant war and thinking he is more suited to rule it, the self delusion is off the charts.
And the arrogance Bi han is showing will lead Lin Kuei to doom again, like in previous timelines. Honestly the guy is a just a dick for no reason whatsoever.
I equate Havik to the Unibomber. He just wants to kill people, but he's making up some twisted justification.
I *do* believe Shao's got a vandetta. Personally I think Liu Kang's the cause of Shao's father's death. In Rome, there was this thing of being *so awful* that it was taboo to *remember* you. And I get that feeling whenever Shao's father comes up. Like his name is stricken from history.
We have a general timeframe of Shao being over 10,000 years old, because that's how old Mileena is and she's only heard legends of Onaga.
I would equate Havik to Unibomber but not in that they are making excuses, but that they actually believe what they say.
@XXMatt0040XX it's delusional to think or assume that Liu Kang is the reason Shao's father died, especially since Liu is all about building bridges and fostering peace, Shao's father according to Sindel and not refuted by Shao himself saw war as a last resort, additionally we don't even have the specifics on the guy, and judging by the brief recitation Sindel gave during the tournament Outworld has many wars and conflicts going on within it, so Shao's dad could've perished one of them.
Assuming Liu Kang had anything to do with it idiotic.

Okay, so question: Why is everybody constantly saying that Megan Fox is the worse voice actor in existence and how she never should have voiced Nitara? I personally don't think she's that bad. I don't know about you, but I've heard WAY worse voice acting in other games and movies. Just saying.
I feel like this game currently is lacking bad guys. We need Quan and Ermac asap.
Personally, I find the level of nuance better for the characters. Quan Chi has no redeeming qualities of course, and should not.
Ermac was a good guy in the og timeline after being saved. I like everyone else having motivations and reasons while Quan chi and Shang are just pure evil

Like some people go "Why do you hate Kung Lao so much but like Shang Tsung?" And I have to make them watch his Deadly Alliance ending, because they don't know who the true Kung Lao is.

NRS really crossed the line by turning the good old Mortal Kombat into Woke-tal Kombat with all the forced presentation, made the game a netflix movie
