A review of the Ex:re album would be great. It's one of my favourites. Either version. The lyrics and emotion in her vicals is amazing.

Never heard of them but this was superb. I immediately went out to get their discography. Unfortunately they aren't on Bandcamp and I don't see any official source that has a flac/lossless download, which sucks. Maybe someone in the community can point me in the right direction.

Hey, I was the one who requested this. I'm a big big fan of Daughter & Ex:re, but you're right, they don't seem to offer a lossless downloadable version at all among the officially endorsed sellers. I am not an audiophile as such so I hadn't really considered it, but it is strange. I do think that 4AD (the label) made a big mistake in not releasing the 12 Ensemble version in physical media at all. For some reason they did release an earlier band live EP (Ex:re - Live at Hoxton Hall) on CD and vinyl but not at all digitally. The string arrangement version is my favourite version of the album so offering it only on streaming and as mp3s on Amazon is a bit unfortunate.

I came across Daughter a year or two ago and enjoyed it. Then forgot about it. Now back on my radar with this reaction.

that was s utterly gorgeous. the strings add so much emotion and movement, and Elena's vocals, as always, do not disappoint. I love Daughter, but have never checked out Ex:Re, seems like i should.
also, if you think this is dreary --- Daughter takes this amount of dreariness and multiples it by 100.

Great reaction, though seemingly doomed to have very few views. As someone who's preferred Daughter's acoustic output, like their Tiny Desk concert, to their "heavier" electric performances, this is right up my street. To me at least, Elena's delicate deeply personal lyrics are often swamped under layers of heavy guitar, keyboards and drums though, I'm sure, others will vehemently disagree!

For anyone interested here's a link to the "Daughter" Tiny Desk Concert mentioned above: You can really "live" Elena's lyrics here, deeply personal, as I said above, and she's often in tears in performance as she re-lives the situations which inspired the song. Now that here in the UK we've become "Little Englander's" again post Brexit, "Daughter" is a rare example of pan European co-operation with Elena herself from London, Lead guitarist from Switzerland and drummer / percussionist from France.

Re 12 Ensemble, you are correct in that they are 12 young string players who work without a conductor. I believe they are UK based and, whilst they do play the standard classical repertoire, are heavily involved in "Contemporary classical music as well. They've also had several interesting collaboration's, including Jonny Greenwood the guitarist from "Radiohead" in one of his amazing film scores.

This ensemble album and the original are so heavy. She really captures her sorrow sonically. Definitely check out the original album.
