Even a glass Maple Syrup bottle!! GLASS, Ladies & Gentlemen, GLASS!! Plastic will do nothing but DO PLEASE recycle plastic - that molded-out-oil receptacle! Enjoy the flute, everyone! (we will probably make the neighbourhood dogs howl, but enjoy and practise, practise, practise!!!
It is same for recorder player: "What do you play?" "Recorder" "Huh? Something U use for recording?" "It is wind instrument!" "Oh I see, you mean flute? An instrument for a kid isn't it?" *Push them from a cliff*
Whenever I got my flute for the first time I couldn’t make a noise for 2 months and the other kids in my class would laugh at me well it turns out at the end of the year I was the best person in my class and topped even the best flutist in our school and was even invited to play with my teacher who was a flutist with a masters degree so I’m happy about it now
Then you’re probably more for second flute! That’s not a bad thing at all! We need second flutes too!! I was amazing at low notes too, but I also have good lung support for high notes which helps to make them come out easier! I encourage you to practice the high notes! They’re pretty fun.
Ruushii Sushi Well, everyone is different and has a different style. So, that sucks. :( Some people naturally have good range, which I guess is what your teacher wants? Some are good at emotion, some are good at musicality, and some are good with technicality. I’ve heard of some that blend too much, some that are the soloist type and are too loud/play like the only flute (Me lol). Some people are just naturally better at low notes or high notes. As a flutist, you kinda gotta get used to an amazing range of you want to play professionally. Breathing exercises (ugh how boring, I know I’m sorry) can actually help for you to get better sustained high notes. I (again) suggest practicing high notes because in the beginning they can be really tough. (Tip I wish I knew when I started playing high notes) When you play low notes your head joint should be rolled away from you very slightly, and when you play high notes it should be rolled towards you slightly. It allows for the sound to come out easier and for you to adjust your embouchure (in the beginning, you should eventually get to the point you can just change your embouchure without changing the angle). It took me a year to get comfortable with high notes, and now I often play 3rd octave all the time (1st flute problems). However, if you still hate high notes and plan to play on after high school, you could just tell whoever you play for next that you prefer second flute. Since flute players are so competitive, they’ll most likely put you in second flute. (I’m not sure if you’d prefer some tips or not, since you may already know how to easily switch between octaves, but I’ll shut up now.)
#3 Seriously. I would buy a gold flute in a heartbeat to avoid the look of tarnish. And then I, once again, look at the price. Note to self: consider getting a piccolo for pure revenge factor.
Amidala Actually, my PHENOMENAL performing artist, teacher, friend was talking to a surgeon who COULD afford that gold baby. When asked how it sounded in an ensemble, her response was that it sounds so different, it doesn’t blend with the silver flutes. Makes sense. Even I could hear it, so if performing with a group, and wanting to create that beautiful blend, put it away and grab your silver standby. Gold is great for solos and is beyond what you think a flute can create (i.e. Galway...), so NOW you’d have to buy TWO!!!!
I want to learn piccolo, but the school piccolo is being used currently, so I can't (a high schooler accidentally broke her piccolo, and is using the school's while hers is being fixed.
Just realized #1 means that all that time I've spent brushing my teeth beforehand and not taking in any food or drink while playing to "keep the pads clean", like my band teacher taught, were in vain because ***no saliva gets in the flute***. I could have been snacking on chocolate all this time?!?! My whole life has been a lie.
It's not the saliva, it's the natural heavy-duty humidity from the lungs. Get yourself a drying"reamer" tool to make sure the pads don't keep the moisture on them!
Eating chocolate, or anything else, and playing the flute is *_not_* a good idea. Your breath carries airborne particulates. That is why you can smell someone's bad breath or tell what food they had just eaten. That can have a deleterious effect on the pads or metal interior of the flute. For example, the airborne particulates from orange juice are acidic, and can pit your metal. Also, oils and food residues (and perhaps even lipstick) may not be very good for your lip plate. The bottom line is that, unlike saxophonists, you are not spitting directly into the flute. However your breath can carry particulates and gasses that may not be good for the flute. Error on the side of caution, and keep a clean mouth when playing the flute.
I’ve joined a band and they want me to learn the flute and honestly I knew what is was but I didn’t have massive respect for it as a instrument,...... but it’s BEAUTIFUL! I’m so excited to start learning, I play a lot of instruments but I think this is gonna be my new favourite!
I started playing flute 10 months ago and I’m a sophomore in high school so I’m in marching band at school right now and last year I joined during concert season at the beginning of November after two months of playing and I was already at the level that everybody else was. I also play violin so it was really easy for me to read music already. The thing I’m trying to say is is there is anybody out there who has doubts about playing the flute and you think you aren’t going to be good enough just practice and practice and you can get to a good level if you put hard work into it
I know it's hard but people think is easy but is not!!! And I hate because we have to teach people what a flute is... and I hate when you don't have enough breath like 😭😭😭
I used to feel this way. Then I switched to the oboe, and REALLY no one knows what that is. And I went from never having enough air to always having too much.
I think the flute is one of the most difficult instruments. I play the clarinet, and it's a pretty easy instrument to get sound on for beginners. Obviously, it takes practice to advance on any instrument, but for beginners, I'd say flute is the hardest. However, you don't have to deal with reeds, lucky
@@rodneymills6477 I wanted to play clarinet in 5th grade. None were left. Mom suggested an Oboe because "it's like a clariner". I said no. She had a flute already so I took that up and loved it. Just cant do much with it in my adult life. Nobody wants to play with me and when I'm playing with family or friends around, I'm always scolded for being too loud. (They prefer rock music instead of classical music.)
I'm the only flute in my high school band. I still have competition, especially because the flute is so quiet-- and my brand new flute almost feels wasted. Seriously, I took it out of the plastic bag things and it was so satisfying.
This was adorable! I remember a red line under my bottom lip after playing. I don't know why but I had great tone. Now at 72 I can't read music anymore! Of course if you were in a marching band you know there is no good way to see music so you memorize everything. You are giving me delightful memories, especially about polishing that baby. Twirled it like a baton at half time on the field. Rain, mud and Lord knows what had to be polished off. Band bus songs for away football games! Then after the season it's serious orchestra. I'd forgotten!
I started playing again after about 45 years of being away. You have some very great advise. I wish you would have been around when I first started! Today, I fit my flute with a soprano sax mouthpiece, it actually plays!!!
I was looking on eBay for a cheap flute to learn on and I saw not one but a TWO bundy “flutes” ... they were clarinets. One of them wasn’t even put together right
Haha, where I live the recorder is called a blockflute (cause of the block it has, you know) and the flute is called a side flute because it goes sideways. So saying you play the flute means you play either recorder or flute but when you call the instrument by it's name overhere there is no confusion. Wish English was like that XD
Same in French. Recorder is "flute à bec" (flute with beak) or "flute douce" (sweet/soft flute). Concert flute is "flute traversière" (transverse or sideways flute), same as Italian "traverso". "traverser" means to cross from side to side, which is why a traverse in mountaneering is a horizontal climb.
I’m acctually a Cellist. But i have a flute aswell. I really love it. I always have it with me. It’s small case and its beautifull tone makes me enjoy music about anywhere. 😁
I have to agree. I don't have any experience with violas but a steel string guitar is way louder possibly a nylon too but I've never had them in the same place at the same time. A 10 year old on a recorder is the loudest thing to exist.
Yes! It takes a while for the arms to get used to it but very important...keep your elbows relaxed to the ground and let go of tension in your shoulders!
Mireya_aa 5 hey! No worries :^) is trombones get arm cramps too from all of the arm stretching! Not to weird you out, but.. my arms are really long from trying to reach 7th position (7th = very end) Wish you the best of playing! - aspiring flutanist?
I really WAS best friends with the girls I competed against at district and state. (And the one other guy). But I still HAD to beat them. Yes, we're competitive. I played a chair challenge at least once a week for my entire middle and high school flute career. You have to be okay with not making it personal but also making it really personal? It's weird. Fast Forward to playing the oboe. I have a solo and a malfunctioning reed. I'm quite prepared for the second oboist to take my solo, it's fine. I would do it... but instead she gave me a reed? Like, "wait, you're gonna help me out? What is this? I would have already sacrificed you to the solo gods."
This comment made me laugh out loud....hahahahaha...I'm actually going to show it to my oboe friend. It encapsulates the essence of oboists vs flutists so perfectly!
@@TheFlutePractice I mean... have I not taken someone's solo right in the middle of a rehearsal just cause they couldn't play it? Of course I have! I still have the heartbeat of a flutist.
I was in a band competition....flute/oboe duet turned into a solo because the Oboe player broke her Reed. When I didn't hear her playing with me, I wondered what was going on but I killed it. I felt bad for her but we never spoke to each other. She was a part of the in group of smart people while I was the socially awkward outcast who nobody wanted to talk to. Makes being one of the best that much more sweeter because nobody in my class can beat my flute playing abilities. Our band rated top scores.
I do love the flute, but I can identify with the feeling competitive (kind of) and the reason is *because* of number 10 - feeling like no one else has those "bad tone" days. It's nice to know everyone else has them too!
Just found your channel I just started lates the flute in middle school band like 1 month ago and your videos help me a lot and mad me really impress my band teacher! Thanks you so much!
The first reason why I picked up the flute was : "for fun", and to get self confidence before starting playing accordeon (I can hardly read music on a trebble clef, had a few flutes lessons as a kid, and the instrument is cheaper and easier to handle.) I started with a cheap plastic study flute and a method designed for kids, as to begin again where is stopped about 30 years ago. It only took a few days to fall in love and develop a passion/obsession for this fantastic instrument. And Tatiana's vids are great, both for tachnique and motivation ! I now bought a study flute (with a silver headjoint hehe) and I called her Kyllikki, as a tribute to the beatiful song performed by a 80's band called Leevi and the Leevings. It's one of the first tunes I learnt to play on flute as well, as pop/rock usually have a pretty easy structure :).
Thanks so much for the humor! I always brush my teeth before playing. I once played with a U.S. Army band flautist (flautist, when music is your day job), and she ate PB&J sandwiches before playing. There was a thin layer of sugar that formed inside of her flute's body. I think of myself as a "flute hobbiest" or "flute collector". When does one breathe during Flight of the Bumblebee? I agree with the breathing guilt 100%!
Claire Mcdaniel yes! Get the full score and listen to recordings following and understanding your entry in relationship to the other parts. I find this really helps me. Have some more humorous not so serious videos on the way! 😃🤪
Im a brass player and percussionist. I just bought a flute to try out and add to my collection. Im really looking forward to learning this beautiful instrument. Hopefully one day i can play paganini caprice 24.
I literally thought playing a flute was so easy but when I started playing the flute today I was like “How In The Heck Do You Play This” because I thought I couldn’t get a note but now I can play D and E flat so I’m kinda proud of myself 😁
ive been playing the flute for about 2 months and I can play an F, D, E flat, B flat and, C. im the best at F and C. C is only 2 button thingys . I thought playing the flute and trumpet were easy. boy I was wrong! (I play both)
@@inactive720 haha no...... I played it for 6th grade band. I quit band after it stopped being fun and more like im.better than you. After I quit the flute I finally decided to finally start acting as its been something I've wanted to do since I was 3. Acting classes started and I was about to quit band but then school closed. I dont have time for the flute anyways bc I also ice skate as well as act.
I watched waiting for the facts that I could consider in making a choice of instruments. For example:1.Flutes do not require reeds. Clarinet and oboe reeds are expensive. Flutes love having an annual “physical” which can be expensive. 2. Consider buying two flutes: one for marching band (or better yet, a piccolo) and a lovely warm rich one for concert band and orchestra. I really enjoyed your other films quite immensely and look forward to seeing more goodies. Best wishes!
I'm an old rock guitarist who's just starting picking up the flute on a bit of a whim, and I've been looking at tutorials for beginners on TH-cam. This one jumped out at me (there's always something about lists) and I found it absolutely hilarious - you really are very funny! But it's also full of great advice, and it's true - I've found that I really do love the flute in spite of the rather pathetic sounds I currently make on it! I'm looking forward to checking out your other videos!
The competition part is soooo true when we were performing a new piece in band there was a flute solo I love my fellow flautist like sister but when there is a solo on the line we get SOOOOO competetive😂
Hey there. I’m new to the channel, and I’d like so say that these videos are helpful! I’m planning to pick up the flute after getting upset that in fact, the trombone is not that fun. That high note is SO RELATABLE! Us trombones have notes that high too! I’m excited about being able to play 2 instruments. I’m in 7th grade, and I participate in middle school band and high school band. I think that the flute caught my eye when I was really young, but I picked up the tb out of wanting something new and unique. I ONLY DID A GLISS ONCE (gliss = moving the slide along the whole instrument). You and I have the same notes so I have an advantage when it comes to reading the notes. I wish you the best of playing and I hope that I can become a good flute player just like you. :^) cheers! Also I think an appropriate name for a “flutist” would be a “flutician” like musician?
Calcium Sauce how exciting!!! Welcome to channel and hopefully welcome to Flute playing. You should definitely follow your heart in music and play the instrument you think you will love 😃 let me know once you have a flute!
I've been playing flute on and off for the last 45 years or so after playing clarinet in high school. I did it for myself and not for anyone else. No competition, no pressure to learn specific test pieces, no anything. My flute has a light patina-not tarnish- and I only really wipe it down once in a while. As for breathing, like any woodwind, you breathe when you can. It develops lung capacity over the years which, if you like swimming as I do, means you don't have to come up to take a breath as often. Yes, starting to play any instrument can be frustrating but, you are learning a new language and it will take time and practice to be fluent. After all these years, my flute has become my 'second voice' when life gets wonky and I need a outlet that doesn't include four-letter-words. Above all, have fun playing. BTW, according to Nancy Toff in 'THE FLUTE BOOK' it's FLUTIST.
I play the flute and now im starting to realise this is so relatable and true. (My bad tone days are on monday when i hat life and wanna just not do anything)
I have been playing flute for 5 years and i am very competitive (even tho i played for 5 years and most played for 2 or 3 years in our school band ). My flute mates are always jealous because i have good tone and learn music faster than them. Not trying to be cocky but i am surprised i am not a section leader or co leader because of my skill? but i understand that my leadership needs work. I get great scoring on my playing tests and know all my scales even tho my section leaders should know their scales by heart which they don't .I find people telling me i am the best flute because of my skills but i hate when people say "why aren't u section leader" or " you should have been section leader"because i find it rude to my section leaders. Even tho i can be kinda cocky i don't tell them that i do better than them because 1 they already know i do best on playing tests and scales 2 i been playing for 5 years and 3 my section leader tell me they are jeauos of my skills and know that i am the best out of the flute group. when you play flute in marching or concet band you go though these things but as a group we still like each other as friends .
Ahh, Mary, I've played clarinet, alto, B-flat, bass, all saxes, oboe, bassoon, all "normal"flutes, alto, baritone, except piccolo, too high for my ears! I've won several competitions, blue & red, solo and duets, which at the time I was very proud of. But the choices of music I was not too happy with. "Best" was pretty cool at the time, Clarinet and flutes, first chair! I also couldn't stand "practicing" at home. Now I live in an apartment, and play guitar with headphones, so as not to be evicted! LOL! I don't know your age, but please always "keep playing!
Hey Mary. I remember being in a band in high school and being concerned about the same thing. I was also not playing first chair although I probably could have been. Looking back, although it was frustrating at the time, I learned humility and how to be a better 2nd player. My advice is to remember that you play, practice and improve so that you can learn and grow and don't need to compare yourself to others for better or worse. The truth is that none of them can play the way you can play and you cannot play the way they play. We all have our unique gifts and voice and the only thing we get to do is grow it and use it. See this time in second chair as a chance to grow and learn those skills. Learning to follow is as important as learning how to lead. There are very specific skills involved in playing 2nd in bands and orchestras and we can lead better when we understand what it feels like to follow. You sound like a talented student and I am very sure your time to shine will come! Good luck 😀
Breathing.....the best thing to help is cardio exercise. When I'm out of shape, I cant play flute as well as when I'm in shape. 30 mins of sprint/walk intervals 3 times a week helps.
Many many thanks for your videos and encouragement, from this very foolish 72 yr old man having never picked up any sort of instrument before is now taking baby steps on the flute. Can now play Star Warts theme and Ode to Woe :-)
Interesting. I have mainly played classical guitar for years. I never had a spot for rythm guitar in a band. Solo stuff like finger picking and electric guitar lead parts have always been my task. Never competitive, I was always training to go against the competitive players anyway. So naturally, the flute was a match. I have picked up a flute a few months ago, now already picking up an intermediate Gemeinhardt. I can say that it was definitely very easy to get used to it compared to guitar because we only ever play one note at a time. But honestly, when you start to learn faster things, some songs can even feel a little bit like every note is a guitar chord. Now, it's already my second main instrument. I'm just always scared to break the thing with my hands because I am used to solo on hard-ass acoustic guitars! I destroyed my first flute's pads after 5-6 months of playing. I really liked your tips, thank you! What I like about being a hobby musician, is that I don't have to learn the stuff with no time to breathe lol!
I used to be really competitive in middle school and then when I got to high school I honestly didn't care about chairs or anything like that so I was always confused by the flutes who were super competitive in high school.
I just won an auction for a used Selmer Aristocrat flute off eBay, so I'm looking forward to receiving it within a couple weeks. I have some 15 other instruments--mostly brass--that I've taken up over the past couple years, for fun, and I also have some clarinets and a string bass that I took up decades ago. I was interested in flute because it is played differently from all the other instruments. I understand flute requires the most air of any instrument, so playing my tubas should have provided some getting used to using a lot of air. I also have a Chinese hulusi, or gourd flute, which really isn't a flute. In any case, I'm 71, so no one's going to intimidate me, and I'm not competing against anyone except myself! However, because the flute is a soft instrument, it will be one I can play when I don't want to disturb anyone!
I had noticed the breathing issue - I played oboe for most of the 70s - I knew flautists who would take a whole crotchet to breathe during that Bach piece and thus give that bar 5 beats and not think it wrong or even strange.
I'm going to start playing the flute soon and im joining band at my school. I'm very nervous because all of the kids at my school in band have two years of experience and I have none! Wish me luck!
Grace Cookie Omg sameee! That’s why I’ve been binge-watching flute videos because I want to start playing flute but it will be hard because I’ve been playing clarinet my whole life and I’m currently in advanced band so switching to another instrument is not recommended
Small Might oooooh cool, good luck! I’ve never played an instrument before (well they did make us learn recorder in elementary school so I sorta know how to read sheet music) but still :/ good luck!
YES! On the competition! I bragged about being first chair the flute and I was the best in my class! In 7th grade, I was the only flute player in my class to play in the 8th grade band. In high school, I was on of around 2-4 in Symphonic Band. Only 3 floutists in the entire school (grades 5-12, we all had the same band director) that I couldn't beat for first chair, two were older and one was an awesome student with great skill. There were 6 of us that consistently went to district band. The year only one of us six made it, we blamed it on a judge who hated our shared flute teacher (couldn't touch the one because she was too much of a perfectionist) It was my Junior year so I didn't get a chance at All State band because of that. Made All State my senior year. Yep. I'm competitive to the point I thought first flute part was always the best and hardest part. I learned that's the easiest to play. Now I have to practice harmonizing and making the first flute part sound good too.
I'm in my 20's (used to play in middle school). Been thinking about buying myself a flute to play on again (I sometimes still play my violin for hobby). Wanted to know if i could ask a few questions from it being a while playing: 1. If i'm someone who still has the instinct for finger positions, but may be lost in remembering how to read notes - what could be some advice on that? 2. Also if i did buy online - what would be a good, but not so expensive brand might recommend? 3. How often is flute maintenance still really needed ~ using what items exactly? Really want to be sure/serious about this, because i definitely don't want to be that one person "Oh yeah i'll buy this!", then hardly touches after one day lol
Just discovered your channel, and will be binge-watching. You have totally nailed it. :) A couple of things. When I was a young adult (a really long time ago) my flute turned black. Yes, I confess I was one of the compulsive polishers. But later in life, it stopped turning black. I can only guess it's something to do with changing body chemistry. I too have threatened recalcitrant neighbors with the piccolo solo from Stars and Stripes Forever.... :D As for what we call ourselves, I'm with Julius Baker, who famously drew himself up to his full 5 feet 4 inches, stuck his nose in the air, and said, "Neither! It's flutician!" (And then he'd spoil the effect by giggling.) Personally, I never played a flaut in my life, thankyouverymuch. On a slightly more serious note, I didn't realize when I chose flute at age 12 that it is one of the very few band instruments that plays in concert key. I have perfect pitch, and if I had decided to play clarinet or sax, it would have driven me BONKERS to see a different note on the page than what I was hearing. So that's something the flute has in its favor. The couple of times I was asked to play an alto flute part, I had to just finger the notes I saw on the page and ignore what I was hearing.
2 little notes; I tried for percussion and Sax in my early days of middle school band and I was really sad when I got put on flute. Now, here I am 5 years later loving my instrument. Note #2, The funny thing about the band I was in, everybody was so quiet because they never practiced so they'd try to hide. Now, I was set back a year or two in schooling so I had been playing for 2 years but I was sitting with people who'd never touched an instrument before. It was hilarious, because I gave all of my flute friends private lessons and we'd go to band everyday and get told to be *quieter* because no one else played loud. Then we got to high school and everything about that got thrown out the window lol.
I've been playing for three weeks and my teacher is already drumming breathing into me. Eight bar phrases on one breath. I'm a bassist, so this is totally new!
Hello. I want to give you thanks for your channel. I admire you for all your flute comments because they are accessible and clear to everyone. You are great explaning everything about our flutes. But i feel there's one more thing i would add to your list. i believed it was real when i started playing the flute: "that the platinum was better than gold, the gold better than silver, the silver better than nickel, the nickel better than wood. It is completely untrue. The secret of a flute for sounding good is on ourselves, the flute embouchure construction specially and the use of more dense materials. That's because older flutes tend to play louder, stronger, warmer and they vibrate under our fingertips. I call it "the flute orgasm" i mean the sensation that flutes was starting to lose over the years till present days. For ex, if we play a Yamaha 211N from the 80s and we take the time to compare it with a Yamaha 422 from this Indonesia production time and we play them both, with blind eyes, I'm sure everyone will choose the sound from the 211N for its warm, loud, richer tone. The same thing happened with amplifiers, loudspeakers, headphones, mics and turntable cartridges. Old was unfortunally better in most of the cases. Don't you think? That even a bad named or called old student flute could play better and nicer than a supposed professional new flute" and blah blah blah.??? Why it cannot be?
#9 - - - ! What is Guilt to you was "fastidious" or "obsessive" to me ever since I picked up the flute some ... centuries ago. Danke! Fur enlightening and yanking me out of the Moyen l'Age!
One also another fun thing is, Any flutist can make any hole with a opening make sound.
So true! I learnt to play tunes on a pen lid....seriously...I think I should make a video about that
The Flute Practice You should!

I agree
Unless they make first chair.
Honestly I agree a lot
Agree I always made 1st or 2nd chair and even then I wanted to be the best. Lol
And violins are not? Try being a first violinist. I'm not talking which chair.
I’m bad at high notes...
I love playing low notes!
Then you’re probably more for second flute! That’s not a bad thing at all! We need second flutes too!! I was amazing at low notes too, but I also have good lung support for high notes which helps to make them come out easier! I encourage you to practice the high notes! They’re pretty fun.
In my band we don't have seperate parts for 1st and 2nd flute, so you have to be able to everything ;-;
Same i can never hit high notes
I think your neighbors complain on high notes

#3 Seriously. I would buy a gold flute in a heartbeat to avoid the look of tarnish. And then I, once again, look at the price. Note to self: consider getting a piccolo for pure revenge factor.
Amidala hahaha! So worth it😋 at least the piccolo part😂
@@TheFlutePractice my picc is the only reason i always have the upper hand over my brother lol it's great
Which piccolo should I get? I'm in the market. Suggestions?
#4. Basically equals:
Piano-----▶Forte
Forte-----▶Fortissimo
And all of the gaps in between

@@TheFlutePractice can you make a video on how to improve sound?
*watching this even though I've been playing the flute for nearly 6 years haha*
*Sweats nervously*
@@rodneymills6477 AYYEEEEEE OBOE BUDDIESSSS!!
Just today I bought my wife a pink flute, she used to play it when she was in middle school and she loved it!
I’m buying my first flute in a couple of weeks and I’m soooo excited!!
What wonderful memories! Thank you for sharing 🙏
I started playing again after about 45 years of being away. You have some very great advise. I wish you would have been around when I first started! Today, I fit my flute with a soprano sax mouthpiece, it actually plays!!!

Yay! That is really kind. Thank you!
I was looking on eBay for a cheap flute to learn on and I saw not one but a TWO bundy “flutes”
...
they were clarinets.
D'you live in the Netherlands? I know they call it like that there
We also do that in Sweden
@@sadafhosseini2266 Ooo, cool!
@Natalie Persterer Haha nope, it is Dutch, but Dutch, German and Swedish are all quite close to each other. Nice languages 😊

To be honest I wouldn’t even say that guitar viola and recorder were quieter than flutes XD
😂😂😂😂😂
I have to agree. I don't have any experience with violas but a steel string guitar is way louder possibly a nylon too but I've never had them in the same place at the same time. A 10 year old on a recorder is the loudest thing to exist.
LOL!!!...This is all true!....Great video.....Love the way you do this!.......I especially identify with #1, #6, #9 and the bonus, #11..:)
I play the flute and my worst struggle is keeping the damn thing up straight! And my teacher yells at me and says “its not that heavy”😭😂💀
That is such a mood! I remember when I first started taking lessons my arms were in hell.
Yes! It takes a while for the arms to get used to it but very important...keep your elbows relaxed to the ground and let go of tension in your shoulders!
Mireya_aa 5 hey! No worries :^) is trombones get arm cramps too from all of the arm stretching! Not to weird you out, but.. my arms are really long from trying to reach 7th position (7th = very end)

Mr. Flute Guy yeah, but idk if i’m doing it again tbh.
Rodney Mills Once a flutist always a flutist...or flautist or flute player😂😂😂😂😂
@@TheFlutePractice I would rather make my own darn reeds (and I do) than have that debate ever again.
This video awkwardly had me love my flute even more, I cried at the end.
I do love the flute, but I can identify with the feeling competitive (kind of) and the reason is *because* of number 10 - feeling like no one else has those "bad tone" days. It's nice to know everyone else has them too!
Thanks!
Just found your channel I just started lates the flute in middle school band like 1 month ago and your videos help me a lot and mad me really impress my band teacher! Thanks you so much!

When you play the flute get ready to pass out XD I’m playing my flute while I’m watching this and I just got light headed
Thank you, thank you for verifying that there are bad tone days. Now I'm less discouraged.
The first reason why I picked up the flute was : "for fun", and to get self confidence before starting playing accordeon (I can hardly read music on a trebble clef, had a few flutes lessons as a kid, and the instrument is cheaper and easier to handle.)
I started with a cheap plastic study flute and a method designed for kids, as to begin again where is stopped about 30 years ago.
What a cool name! I am so glad you have fallen in love with this beautiful instrument. It really is a very special and beautiful one!
Just got my flute today and I love it already!!!!!
How exciting! Good luck with it and enjoy every moment with it!
Best video of all! I've played sax my whole life, I'm loving the flute!

for anyone switching from a reed instrument I recently started playing flute and bad tone days are the same as when you cant find a good reed
PeepPaPeepPeepPeep Peep so true!!!
Ahhh 🤔
Was it difficult to switch?
I watched waiting for the facts that I could consider in making a choice of instruments.
For example:1.Flutes do not require reeds. Clarinet and oboe reeds are expensive. Flutes love having an annual “physical” which can be expensive.
2. Consider buying two flutes: one for marching band (or better yet, a piccolo) and a lovely warm rich one for concert band and orchestra.
I really enjoyed your other films quite immensely and look forward to seeing more goodies. Best wishes!
Yes ! Yes ! Yes! I absolutely love the flute . It is challenging and has so much flexibility when comes to sound possibilities. Glad to be here .

Flutician = wonderful!!
I enjoy that! Laughed frequently, good-on-ya..
Good luck 😀
OH!!!!!! U say things from the bottom of my heart!!!!!!!!!

Breathing.....the best thing to help is cardio exercise. When I'm out of shape, I cant play flute as well as when I'm in shape. 30 mins of sprint/walk intervals 3 times a week helps.

LOL this was AMAZING (MY ban director calls the flute section flute loops like the cereal)
In another one of your videos I said there is spit when I play. I am so relieved now to know all along it wasn't spit but condensation!
It was great fun listen to you talk about the flute! Number 10 was very consoling...

I used to be really competitive in middle school and then when I got to high school I honestly didn't care about chairs or anything like that so I was always confused by the flutes who were super competitive in high school.
You are awesome wish I had seen this sooner!

Wanted to know if i could ask a few questions from it being a while playing:
Why this isn't a million hits, I have no idea........ thanks.
That was so true and so hilarious. Thanks for sharing.
pmh1nic glad it brought some laughs!
"its not spit" hahahaha for me it is BC I can feel the spit dripping from my lips
We deal with spit and condensation here with the brass kids A LOT.
I've been playing for three weeks and my teacher is already drumming breathing into me. Eight bar phrases on one breath. I'm a bassist, so this is totally new!
This is the most accurate thing I have ever seen
