You are in my System by The System - Moog Bass Transcription by Robert Schulenburg

I heard about this song just recently due to an interview with Thundercat about his favorite basslines. He named this one pretty fast and i was instantly hooked by the arrangement which feels kind of like a dialogue between Keyboard Bass and Keyboard Synthie. The transcription was not that hard but to play these staccato bass lines 100% tight through the whole song is on another level of difficulty ... Have fun with the transcription!

Von diesem Song habe ich erst vor kurzem durch ein Interview mit Thundercat erfahren. Thema waren seine ‚Favorite Bass Lines‘ und ziemlich am Anfang nannte er You are in my system von The System aus dem Jahr 1983. Der Großteil des Songs besteht eigentlich nur aus einem Dialog zwischen Moog Bass und Keyboard Synthie. Hinzu kommt ein 40-Sekunden Intro, eine krude Bridge in 3/4 und harter 80ies Electro Flair. Ich hab es direkt gefeiert.
Die Transkription ging recht fix aber diese Stakkato 16tel Bässe mit großen Intervallsprüngen sind nicht einfach zu spielen wenn das Timing immer genau auf den Punkt sein soll. Heutzutage würde man das eher sloppy mit Midi einspielen und dann quantisieren, fertig, aber dann wäre man in einer Live Situation ja verloren! Also habe ich es recht lange geübt … ;-)

Impressive..most impressive. I always understood that this tune was achieved by layering...yet it is fascinating to see the backbone of this piece. Your technique is flawless. Music is a language,no doubt...and you speak it fluently. thanks for the overview....very nice.

Thanks Edward, you're right with the layering. In the end i combined several motifs to achieve one consistent 'bassline'.

Thank you for this transcription. No need to apologize your staccato. The studio version was sequenced and quantized. However, David Frank does play the bass line live and is a beast on an entirely different level

Yeah you are totally right, it's more of a dialogue between the bass synth and a more midrange/upperrange synth. I dont know, if its possible to play both parts together, at least not for me, so i tried to combine both in one bass part.
