One thing that does confuse me is the use of [u] when describing schwa sounds. Why isnt the symbol for the schwa [ə] “uh” sound used and replaced with the [u] “oo?” I understand children may not comprehend the difference so maybe that’s the reasoning?? Why not teach these symbols simultaneously?
I’m currently working on my masters in SPED but have a masters in Voice (opera performance) I took diction in undergrad and it covers ALL of this. I feel like I’m sitting through a broken down version of the class because diction was so in depth. I am however learning what tests to administer but I am getting more out of TH-cam videos than class. Could I have been given credit for this class or must I take the RICA to gain credit?
I like the video, but the speaker needs to make sure she is saying the sounds correctly. She talks about saying the sounds correctly in the beginning of the video, but during the video she actually pronounces sounds incorrectly.
Love the video but PLEASE model your sounds correctly even when teaching adults how to administer. I can't show this to teachers with poor modeling of adding schwa to sounds. I will say when Jennifer was working with the student that she did say the sounds correctly. :)
