This is a nice knife (I kept the ferro rod loop, not sure why you wouldn’t want that on a bushcraft style knife, and carry a small Exotac there) but the big weakness is the sheath. It’s nice leather, but WAY too loose. Mine would fall out just turning it upside down. I wish they had made it deeper, I was afraid the knife would bounce out on a hike or whatever. First thing I did was glue two thin black leather shims down inside the sheath throat to make it a lot tighter, so it holds well now. Agree the dangler is optional for such a small rig. I got mine about two years ago, and think they had fixed their 3V heat treat by then. By the way, mine was pretty dull out of the box as well. No idea it had been discontinued, and thanks for the info on your sheath maker!
I love this knife. The PX sells them for $109. And I seen it as low as $80 when on sale. I bought two and now that is discontinued, I might get one more. I did get aftermarket sheaths. One in leather and one from Armatus in kydex.
I recently bought the same knife for the same reason . I didn’t want it to slip through the “discontinued crack” so to speak. I got it for around 130 bnib! I reground mine into kind of a steep drop point/sheep’s foot, so I could have a more usable tip. There’s a guy who makes perfect kydex sheaths for these too and I’m gonna get one so I can pocket carry it. Like you were saying you had issues with your sheath, I too had the same but mine couldn’t be remedied, so kydex it is! Which I prefer anyway
It's funny you mentioned about buying that Benchmade Puukko b/c it was the right price at the time; I too bought my Boker Bronco for the same reason. I wouldn't have normally bought it at full price, either. I'm not saying it's not worth it, just at regular price it's out of my affordability. 😉Anyway, I think you got a great deal on a super awesome knife. 👍 Thanks for sharing, take care and Cheers!
Funny, I was just handling my Benchmade Puukko earlier today while squaring away my "bushcraft" knives cache. I bought mine two years ago on sale, but I wasn't aware that it's now discontinued. I got a kydex sheath made for mine due to the cheaply made factory sheath that comes with it.
Those Puukko style knives are really cool to get to the finer details with carving and such. I own a couple but have only used my LT Wright puukko which is really handy....They have a good little detailed niche to work well....Good stuff....
My only criticism of this knife is the sheath. They should have included a kydex sheath. The leather sheath is garbage. It doesn’t matter now because they discontinued it. I own several puukko and this is one of my faves.
Just a heads up, I liked and commented on this video when you first made it and upon revisiting, TH-cam had removed both and I've had to resubcribe to your channel twice. They're probably doing it to other subscribers also.
My 3V CS Master Hunter held a better edge than my BM Puukko, but I ended giving my CS away (yes, I’m a idiot) and my Puukko retired my old Griptillion. If that says anything...
I’m surprised your Benchmade Box has lasted this long...I’ll have to go back and look at my box dates. Didn’t know I could do that. DON’T go look at what they have been selling for the last few weeks...Just Say’n
If I wasn’t so lazy and had a Tube channel I would start converting and selling all those fire steel owners replaceable ceramic rods...way more useful. Hint, hint...lol

I looked at this design awhile back, probably should have!
Yep, caught my eye.
Have fun with it!

I just subscribed to your chanbel. Glad to see a reviewer that uses knives.
Awesome. Thank you
It's 3V!? And a really nice sheath! Amazing price for a Benchmade too. Looks like I'm stoppin at Ace after work tomorrow ✌️

I really like this design. BM did a good job in it.👊🔥🔥🔥
I agree!
I have always wanted a benchmade

Thanks. I was looking at the bronco too. Looks very similar

I can’t wait to re profile it. The factory edge is sharp. But not shaped properly
@@peterbiltknifeguy I will make sure to judge your new edge on it behind my keyboard....LOL...
@@scottf.3808 😂👍 please do lol.
@@peterbiltknifeguy 👍👍🤣🤣
Our knives were also made on the same date too!

Damn I’m glad I got mine at $125 when they first came out
In 2019? How is the edge retention with the 3v?
Try it. I saw that it's last week at nice plus I believe don't call m They were on sale for a hundred bucks I believe
Awesome find. It’s hard to beat a $165 3V knife.
That’s what I thought too. Especially from a reputable company made in the US
I bought one at Hoffman's in Connecticut for 109... still can't believe it!
I would like to have a Kydex sheath for that knife.
I relieved the edge, even better on wood. I wonder how long the handle will last.
Probably a long time as long as you don’t beat it up. The tang underneath is almost full size.
Just a heads up, I liked and commented on this video when you first made it and upon revisiting, TH-cam had removed both and I've had to resubcribe to your channel twice. They're probably doing it to other subscribers also.
They unsubscribed you?
I dropped some super glue in the seam and clamped it in place loosely to fix the retention.
That’s a good idea
Hello, How is this knife performs in edge retention and rust proof department in your experience? Regards
Both are good. In the climate I’m in. I don’t have to worry that much about rust
Brother I just picked up a benchmade puukko for $109!!!
That’s awesome

Supposedly they were running the 3v softer back then. And supposedly the one I have is a fixed one
My second one was definitely better than my first one and it was In that timeframe they were supposedly updated.
@@dlrmon1 and the cold steel was still better
Yes, my CS was maybe 10-20% better.
Awesome

Why. Super cheap?
1/13/18 & 1/3/19...and I had to dig to get back to those dates...lol
@@dlrmon1 lol.
Black Friday weekend I saw both the Puukko and 3v Master Hunter under 100 bucks
@@dlrmon1 lol. Damn.

Personally converted two Tops fire steel caps to two different grits of ceramics.
But I’m also lazy lol
PUUKKO…ACTUALLY TRANSLATES TO “AFFORDABLE BEATER” in
PORTO RICAN LATIN…..facts bro!
Put it up against your Walmart swiss tech knife that I purchased because of your review
In toughness?
Esee 3 is less than 1/8"
I don’t know how you came up with that. But it’s .125 aka 1/8.
just buy a mora and save yourself $$$
I already have a mora lol
