Historically, despite the cut in engine horsepower, ROCA M41D should have higher torque performence in low gear. However ingame, this feature dosen't reflected, making this vehicle completely no maneuverability.
Engine facts about the M41D. It had a Detroit Diesel 8V-71T installed making 350 HP (261 kW) @ 2100 rpm and 965 lb⋅ft (1,308 N⋅m) @ 1600 rpm (compared to the Continental AOS-895-3 making 500 HP @ 2800 rpm and 960 lb-ft @ 2400 rpm). The diesel somewhat outperformed the gasoline engine in acceleration and actual useable power but gave it almost 3x the range. Diesels make more torque at lower rpms and and HP than gasoline engines and are better suited to heavy applications.
Also, to add a modern equivalent-ish engine, the Volvo D13 (strait 6cyl, the Detriot is a v8) specced for 375 HP makes 1450 lb-ft @ 1000 rpm and can push a combined weight of 40-60 tons to 80 MPH (129KPH).
Hey Phly! About 3 years ago you made a video about the AMX-30B2 BRENUS and how it was one of the worst MBTs in the game. Well today the BRENUS has had quite a glow up, as it now boasts a pretty nice array of tools at the comfortable BR of 8.3, such as thermals, a laser rangefinder, IRCM, and a pretty nice lineup to back it up. So I encourage you to take a look at this underappreciated vehicle again (day 16)

i love how the diesel engine they swapped for this tank is supposed to be better for acceleration and on the spot turning because of the better tourqe and gearing but the snail just sees it as "less hp = slow as phuck"
Day 137: Phly, you should play the Hawk III Chinese fighter; 900lbs of bombs in a biplane at 1.0 that you can dogfight in after dropping. Totally balanced.
It is balanced lol, it has the same bomb load as the Hs 123. Actually the Hs 123 has a better bomb load than the Hawk III is you do the conversion from Kg to lbs
I find playing this thing with a medium tank mentality is the best, and heatfs is way too unreliable for me. I'd rather use apfsds without having to worry about a little bush blocking my shot, plus I can shoot through walls, and era is prevalent in the 8.0 br range so another knock against heat
It is a Taiwan only updated version of M41with Diesel and other modern gears, 50 updated tanks services from 1999( left about 20 tanks still serviced now )
This light tank have a same problem as Type 69 minus the thermal. APFSDS rounds is basically just a fancy APCR rounds but the added laser rangefinder suggests the tank able to engage far distance target while HEAT-FS has one hell of a drop and cannot penetrate cover and ERAs over distance. Its a unique problem for China/ROC tech tree, imo.
@@coloneljason9094 look I acknowledged it wouldn't work balance wise, all I was saying was I'd hoped for them to have their historical ability to direct ship fire!
it's a tank that is still in service today in taiwan. This is the kind of tank that is probably better in actual combat as a opposed to war thunder tank vs tank combat. Any tank is better than no tank and in an island nation with unforgiving terrain like taiwan this would be pretty effective even against chinese mbts.
Hey Phly! Your vids are top notch quality and I love to see the volume you're able to put out these days. It really would be awesome if you could take a day, soon, to showcase Gunner Heat PC too!
the leKpzM41 (90mm) was an upgraded Bulldog by the germans too, planned to fit a German 90mm cannon. In war Thunder it doesn't feature that though sadly, only the best shells for the 76mm. This has to do with the fact that in real life they never used the 90 mm in the end of the day, iirc. So yeah the leichter Kampfpanzer M41 was already an (planned) upgraded Bulldog.
The M64 is what happens when a Bulldog gets loose and shacks up with a Hellcat. This is the pedigree Bulldog. The Super Walker Bulldog... or Walker Super Bulldog, or Super Bulldog. Anyhoo. In this metaphor lasers and thermals are developed by breeding tanks. Day 51: Take the Scimitar, the last Supermarine, out for a spin. Quad 30mm, 24 chances to find out if British AP rockets do anything, and the last work of many of the developers of the ww2 spitfire generations.

i believe the arty is nerfed rather than more powerful. its not any more accurate, and the sounding shots arent high explosive but smoke rounds instead, because m18 drivers were complaining about getting sent to the shadow realm by the sounding shots too often. . .

I have a feeling you're a trucker, or a mechanic! Or both
The MB 873 from a Leopard 2 is a V12 Diesel with 47,6l capacity and produces 1500hp at 2600rpm and 4600nm at 1600rpm .
But None of that good shit is in game for this tank….it’s transmission is nearly the size of the engine but it’s a pile of garbage

T37 » M41's prototype predecessor with weaker gun (retained hull design)
T49 » M41 with modified turret and 90mm gun
M551 Sheridan test-bed » M41 hull with Sheridan's turret (it went full circle and later they also tested a M551 modified with the M41's gun)
"Stingray Bulldog" » M41 hull with Stingray light tank (the one from the AGS program) turret
M41 60mm HVMS » pretty easy to tell what it is, Chilean M41 with the Italian hyper-velocity gun
M41 LCTS 90 » Belgian M41 with new turret and 90mm gun (APFSDS ammo), also offered 105mm variant
M41B » Brazillian modification, new engine and gun modified to 90mm
M41C » rebuilt and upgraded M41B
M41 DK-1 » upgraded for Denmark with laser rangefinder and thermal imaging
M41GT1 » upgraded by German company for Thailand, has digital FCS + laser rangefinder + thermal imaging, still the 76mm gun
M41 HAKO » Spanish turretless M41 with mount to carry 4 HOT ATGMs
M41 TUA » also from Spain but with the Tow Under Armor (TUA) launcher
M41U » Uruguayan army's M41 with Belgian 90mm gun
not a direct development but somehow related:
T42 medium tank » scaled up M41 with thicker armor and 90mm gun

I was really hoping with the addition of "Spotter planes" in Naval that you would be able to direct fire with them.
@wehrahoonii the new planes that came this update in Naval? Yeah I was hoping for more functionality but I also realize that would have been OP.

I know this would make it broken, but historically they should have put stablizers on this thing, considering it is a light tank vehicle.
Pretty sure no M41's have stabilisers. Light tanks don't actually engage often which is why the British Warrior doesn't have a stabiliser.
