      Sofyan, I absolutely LOVE your reviews! You are my favorite auto reviewer... So what I say next is with the utmost respect, not hating at all! I enjoy that you are experimenting with a new video format, opening with a voice over while simultaneously doing shots of the vehicle. I, however, REALLY loved your previous intros, where you would say a little, short spiel while standing next to the vehicle and then cutting to the music and shots of the vehicle. I love that! Anyway, my two cents. ✌🏾

    As an owner of a 2015 GX and previous owner of a 2007 GX I can tell you exactly why it still moved 30k Units last year despite the aging design. 1) Ultra Low Depreciation Value 2) Reliability/Quality 3) Body on Frame (enough said) 4) Off-Road Capability vs. 4runner is better 5) The V8 . The GX offers things that make it outdated but a true SUV. SUV's like the Range Rover, X5, and Q7, and even the XC90 are beautiful but they will NEVER have the same value as this one and will never be as reliable. They are fun to drive but it's own right so is the GX. This thing is a tank and it will be around for years to come.

    Love this truck. It’s so underestimated and under appreciated. It’s not a poser SUV. The luxury variant is the better option. Folks who buy this aren’t getting it for everyday 3rd row use. This doesn’t compete with crossovers it competes with GLE, X5... the 2020 will be out soon. The G wagon was just updated and was the oldest vehicle in the MB lineup but you journalists loved it. Why the complaints with Toyota?

      Don't expect much from the 2020 model. Aim for the 2021-2022 model. 2020 is just another facelift based one the pics that have been leaked of it so far. New LED headlights, new grill, new steering and maybe a minor interior update, possible update to the infotainment if anything. It's a stopgap while they work on the all new one. The new one however is said to be like a baby LX, so that'll be something to look forward to.

      @@Monkeyseemonkey79 That's a matter of opinion, I think. Being the owner of one myself I'd say it has plenty of personality. It's not iconic, I'll give you that. It won't stand out in the quirkiness department like a Volvo, or match the ultra-high tech experience of the German luxury SUVs. But it'll outlive them both and remain comfortable the entire time doing it. As the review says, it's really an experience in old-school stately luxury. And on top of that, it'll eat most other SUVs for breakfast off-road. It's essentially a luxury version of the same vehicle that's been a UN Peacekeeping staple for decades now, with a more powerful engine and better transmission. Properly prepared, it'll go anywhere, and will still outlive most of its peers. That in itself is a persona that stands out among its rivals. It'll just fulfill that persona while not being as fancy or RGB-LED-filled on the inside as a Mercedes :P

    • @_dmfd
      @_dmfd 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yea, this design has worked well for a while and does depreciate slowly. Also, buyers of these vehicles ( not saying you ) are generally older people with grandkids and within their prime buying ages were buying mid to late 2000's vehicles and are very used to these types of interior designs and is comfortable and easy for them to use. People bought 30,000 last year for a reason. Like I said, maybe a well off 25 year old isn't gonna buy this to travel the country with his buddies, but a 45-70 year old mature adult will buy this up and love it. Convenient and practical and familiar for most of the buyers. All these new fancy technologies make newer vehicles depreciate quick for a reason.

      @@robertchandler2573 I completely understand and it seems you fit in the demographic I was speaking. Although I am 24, and do appreciate modern technologies - I care way more about reliability and day to day performance. I grew up thru the 90's and 2000's before every car was as advanced as they are today, and appreciate a modern style without all the crazy amenities. While GPS, lane keep, AWD, and other safety tech I feel is a necessity in today's vehicles, the other stuff I dont see spending all the extra money on. It hurts resale value the more you add, and is almost guaranteed to break. Excessive Electronics are nice, but they wear out so fast. I drive a 2014 Chevy Malibu LTZ V6, my girlfriend drives a 2012 Kia Forte5 SX, and even those can be overwhelming with tech for people who aren't as inclined as others. I drove my buddies 2019 Audi RS3 the other day, and I am very inclined with modern tech, but I was even overwhelmed by all the distractions that car had while driving. Its very reminiscent of what Lincoln was doing with their last generation of Town Cars. Great, big, body on frame full size estate sedans that were equipped well enough for the time, but were targeting a mature or elderly demographic. Extremely user friendly and extremely reliable, at a decent price for the time. Not too mention the cost of cars now a days. Especially American made. A vehicle is a tool for your life, and I might think differently than most at my age, but I'd rather keep a car as long as possible and have it be as reliable as possible thru its life, than spend 45k every 5-7 years just because I want what's new.

    I believe these SUV's ( although getting refreshed for 2020 ) are still relevant in Lexus' line up for two major reasons. One is depreciation. These SUV's hold onto their value for as long as this truck will run. Modern cars depreciate so fast because they are loaded with new designs and technologies that are not very reliable after 5-7 years. Small placement turbo 4's and 6's are just not as reliable as a solid, naturally aspirated version. Yea, the V8 is not very economical, but it will run longer than any of us here. For two, the people interested in these vehicles are generally mature adults with grandkids. 85% of grandparents buying cars today were in their prime buying age in the mid to late 2000's. The technologies ( lack there of ) are familiar to them and do not overwhelm a general consumer. Yes, this vehicle is very reminiscent of 2006-2012, though it is easy and reliable for the mass that is purchasing this vehicle that can comfortably haul their extended growing families around while they're being babysitter for the younger working adults. Like I said, I know a well off, 25 year old isn't gonna be buying this car to travel the country with his buddies, but this design has and still works great for " older " people ( not saying elderly ) hauling their family around knowing their car isn't losing the price a year that the X5 they could have purchased would be.

I'm a well off 23 year old that bought a Lux 17 for the exact reason you said a 25yo wouldn't want to 🤣🤣 I can appreciate everything inside while recognizing it's shortcomings without letting those compromise my appreciation for the vehicle. I love lexus, this one's my fifth and first SUV. Tried ES, GS, LS, and even RC most recently but riding around in a high clearance 4wd SUV is needed now that I've moved up north... I just found your comment amusing. Hope you find mine as well.

      The reliability comments are played out on every Lexus video. I get that Toyota/Lexus is conservative to keep higher reliability, but if I'm paying this much it gets to a certain point where I'd sacrifice some reliability for something I really enjoy. Although reliability is important, I couldn't find myself to put up with such an outdated interior/exterior on such a new and expensive automobile.

    • @savannahg5043
      @savannahg5043 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Reliability SHOULD NEVER BE PLAYED OUT when investing thousands of dollars into a car. Cars are investments. I’d rather spend more up front for something that’s gonna save me more money down the line than something that’s expensive as hell up front and down the line. QUALITY AND RELIABILITY equals money. A good 70% of the features tech wise that they put in cars today many blue collar families don’t care about nor do they have patience to try to figure it all out. Families buy these so they can be given down the line and reliable for years to come. These cars are given to children and grandchildren for a REASON. Whenever you start sacrificing reliability and tech for something that can change the ambient lighting to your “Mood” and you can talk to like Siri you’re in trouble. I never said it didn’t need updates I’m just saying at the end of the day it’s bulletproof versus things like BMWs. Anyone who knows ANYTHING about cars knows how some luxury brands are poster children for tech and no long term reliability without paying A lot more down the line.

    • @panzer_TZ
      @panzer_TZ 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Savannah G First, a car isn’t an investment. It’s a depreciating asset. Second, if all you’re after is an appliance to get you from point A to B, then sure reliability may be the only factor. However, most modern cars(especially if you’re buying new) are very reliable. While some may see more electronics issues, very few will leave you stranded on the side of the road. Generally, since I enjoy the driving experience, I’d prefer something I actually want to drive, rather than just picking the Lexus purely because of reliability. Don’t shit on me, I’m a fan of Lexus, but it’s annoying how Lexus to gets a free pass on their bullshit “because reliability derp derp”. Have a nice day.

    • @savannahg5043
      @savannahg5043 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ezekiel1hen if you’re paying for years and years and potentially making this your car for years it is an investment. Between Gas, oil changes, car washes, brakes, all fluids etc. it is an investment. I never said they get a free pass at all. What I said was reliability is and should be far more important. And in reverse BMW and BENZ and FCA and other brands shouldn’t just get passes as good cars because they have the latest tech either since we’re going there. I openly admitted it needed some updates. What you’re missing is the overall formula is key for them. There is a reason why millions of them have been sold and continue to be sold. Now you have a nice day.

Infotainment screen and dash would not come on or simply cease to function at random. Vehicle left her stranded with dead battery on multiple occasions and countless times the climate controls would go on the blink. Dealership had no idea of what was wrong with it. Ended up getting it lemon lawed but not before involving legal representation because the dealer would state "everything functions as intended" when that wasn't the case. She now has a Q7 that has been going strong with zero complaints.

      @Jack Z yes lots of opinions/time on aesthethics and subjective stuff. Not as much facts and numbers. Have u looked at alex on autos? Less opinion and more presentation of the vehicle stats, class comparos, charts, etc.

      Jack Z no this review is honest there’s no way Lexus or any other brands should be charging over $50k for an unchanged product literally from 2006 in 2019 that’s just pathetic and lazy

    I like my 2016 GX460 sooooooooo much, no bother to even look at European ones - absolutely no interest. The next one still GX460, after 5 years+ ...
    If I consider how much I am going to save from repairs, the poor gas mileage can be totally ignored!

    You complained entire video about how old the GX is but people who have this in their shortlist are not looking at all “gimmicks” newer SUVs are offering over reliability and ride quality of this. Yes it’s old, yes it doesn’t have Apple car play, yes it doesn’t have all the gadgets and gimmicks that newer platform SUVs have, what the GX offers is that none of the ones you mentioned at the end of video can even come close to offer, 1st you can pay the high price tag for GX today and Gaurantee yourself a problem free ride for next twenty years that even your grand kids can drive while the other cars you mentioned are rotting in the junkyard, the 2nd reason anyone will buy this is because it’s based on land cruiser platform, it is a true off-road capable and can go places that X7, Xc90 and all those shiny new SUVs can even dream of.

    I test drove this and the seats were not comfortable at all. They can do better. Also now I think about it the only reason why they are so reliable is because they don't change anything much so they are able to perfect it but we as fans are getting tired of the same thing.

    The comfort and sport modes minimally effect ride comfort (although you will feel a bit of difference on a very bumpy road). But where you do notice the difference is in the steering response. In sport the KDSS suspension system (which you didn't even mention) keeps the vehicle more upright in turns, which IMO helps steering response. In comfort, the car has more body roll and is more floaty in turns. I think that's where your steering issues and need to slow down so much on ramps came from. I drive my gx in the middle setting, but in sport it actually feels very responsive for being a bit of a boat on the road.
