    Hi Sorin, why not power the volt/amp meter from the source using a buck converter, so you don't need the battery?

    • @creeprovec718
      @creeprovec718 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably because the voltmeter can go up to 100 V and the buck converter only 30V that is probably the rason.

    • @Sorin_DIY
      @Sorin_DIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      hi. because the volt/ammeter need a supply voltage of 4.5V - 30V to work. a buck/boost converter has a limited input voltage range and I plan to use it for measuring voltages of 0.00V - 100V. the voltmeter + a DC converter will draw 15 - 20mA from the current I want to measure, so the measurement will not be accurate.

      @@Sorin_DIY The barrel jack can handle up to 36V safely. I doubt you'd want to measure 100V with it. Also, if you wired the meter slim wires in parallel to the object being measured you could accurately measure the current drawn. So in my opinion the battery is useless.

    • @Sorin_DIY

      the ammeter has an internal shunt for maximum 10A. if you want to measure a higher current, you need to add an external shunt.

    I would ask if you have an idea I bought last week a dead old brass doorbell on which is indacated 12 ac volts. The electricen said that the solenoid has a cooper wire of 0.5 mm and about 880 turns. But when i applied 12 ac volts the bell hardly vibrate and didn't make sound. I graduly increased the ac voltage until 30 ac volts where the bell function well. My questions are :
    1/ Can I decrease the number of turns to let the bell function under 12 ac volts and how many turns.
    2/ Can I function the bell under 220 ac volts and how to calculate the thickness of the cooper wire and the number of turns.
    Best regards.

    • @Sorin_DIY
      @Sorin_DIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi. I don't think you can convert it to 220V, because it's not made to work with that voltage, there is probably not enough space for a coil that works with 220V and it's dangerous to use the ring button to transfer 220V. it's better to modify it to work with 12V. I think you can remove 200-300 turns from the coil. but I don't know how powerful the solenoid is. there is a possibility you will need to replace the entire coil with a thicker wire, to be able to produce the same power at 12V.

    • @Sorin_DIY
