Hey Ryan :) I really appreciate your sincerity here. I dropped out of Stanford for four years but went back and finished up a few years ago so it’s definitely doable. “Make the decision right instead of making the right decision”, beautifully said. And you absolutely have so much to look forward too, you’ll come back fluent in another language which is going to enhance EVERYTHING in your studies and life as well. One thing I’d recommend is getting into some kind of academic coaching to adjust back to being a student. I didn’t do that and it was REALLY tough. Thanks again for sharing. Much love, brother ✌🏾
@@JerryWhitaker804 seems like most people in Singapore speak two or three languages including Singaporean English (never been there myself but will visit soon). I just meant that it’s an opportunity for him to become fluent in another since he’ll be there for a while.
@@Marcus_Ute Everyone in Singapore speaks English, not some other 2-3 languages BS. Some of the older generation speaks Chinese. But you just need a basic grasp to speak to them. But otherwise, 99% of the time, everyone speaks English. It’s kinda racist that Americans assume other people don’t speak English. We were a British colony for over a 100 years before we got independence, English was always spoken here. Classic racist American who understands zero geography.
Respect to you for choosing what aligns with your values and will make you happier in the future :) It’s a difficult decision for sure but it’s awesome that you’re looking at it with a positive outlook. Wishing you the best on your journey and looking forward to seeing more videos from you!
Hi Ryan, I know how you must be feeling. I’m 20 years old as well, when I was 18, I received a once in a lifetime scholarship to attend university. I won’t go into the nitty gritty details but, basically if I was going to accept the scholarship, I had to repeat 2 years of high school. I was an excellent student with high grades and being in that position was hard. I ultimately ended up accepting the scholarship because if I hadn’t, I would have stayed in my home country, when my dream was to travel and study abroad. People around me judged me, told me I’d regret making this decision and that I was “wasting my time”. But now, I’m going to start my first year at NYU next month as a 20 year old :) So don’t worry! Everything in life works out exactly how it’s meant to be. Even if you’ll return and you’re older than your peers, trust me, I get it. Just know that nothing is ever truly a waste of time, we are all experiencing this life differently and we are all learning from these lessons. I wish you the best of luck and I hope to see you someday in campus when you return :))
aww thanks for the message. really appreciate your story! excited to be back soon and will be on campus for the next few months. hopefully see you around :)
We're complete polar opposites haha, Im 20 and I just finished National Service in Singapore and heading to NYU this September! Been watching your videos for a while now and your vlogs have always been awesome! When youre back from NS or before you enlist I would love to meet you in person ! Oh also when I went into NS all I could think about is all the other things I could be spending my time doing but looking back at it, its an experience which you can get no where else in the world so make the best out of all the opportunities (just like what you talked about for NYU) :)
Dang man your openness really drew me in and i respect the way you’ve been sincere even to this moment. Singaporean here! Did my graduate studies in the US, and currently working in the US as well. New to your videos but guessed from the start of this video that you have roots in Singapore (not sure how but it was my gut feeling), so there's a good chance you would surprise yourself with how much you end up reconnecting with your Singaporean roots
Thanks for the update Ryan. You gave me an exciting look into nyu that really inspired me to apply - I will be starting as a freshman at stern in a month. Good luck with the army, maybe we will be classmates when you make it back to nyu. 💪💪💪
