Looks like a jerry siggal jet car , I remember when he started the jet car industry, out in Palmdale California, did he’s first run at Little Rock drag strip that became LACR, California thanks nice run 302 , crazy 😜 thanks BigAl California.
victoryredcolorado I also was there and was the first person to get to jerry, when he went off the end of the race track in his gold plated jet dragster, he did not allow for the extra weight of the gold plating, and in his second or third run it pulled off the parachute bracket mounting at 279 to 300, miles per hour, he went off the track at 200, he said it started swapping ends it kept going for 6 to 800 yeards 500 sand trap and 300 past that up through the boulders and Joshua trees that he didn’t hit, ripped the car into two pieces , when I got to him in the dark , he had just crawled out of the roll Cage and was just standing up , The next day when we got back to the track to see the end of that week ends racing, jerry was there and he had placed all of the parts out in his pits on display, I had him stand on the trailer next to the cockpit and I took a polaroid instant couple of pictures, I still have them in my photo album, kool story, thanks BigAl California.
Are rocket cars still banned by the nhra in the US? I remember seeing the late Sammy Miller here in the UK in 1984 running "Vanishing Point" It's still the world drag racing record 3.58 seconds at 386.26 mph. One of the most incredible things I've ever seen!
They can run at events that aren't NHRA-sanctioned I believe. Also, the problem wasn't a ban, it was getting hold of the right fuel (Hydrogen Peroxide). Kurt Anderson ran a 5.8 test pass on one of his first ever runs with his newly-built Rocket Dragster in 2015.
Yeah I live in London man, so I see Eric running at Santa Pod all year long! He's awesome. Record is a 5.12 and he's been 281mph too (separate runs). Do you get to Santa Pod? Also, David Pertué has one of Sammy's old cars and he ran a 4.3 over the 1,000ft mark at Hockenheim in 2013.
SÉAN BOWE VIDEOS Yeah.... That's where I saw Eric a year or two back! Quite something to see! Santa Pod sure does the UK proud, I've been going there for years...Right back to the days of Herridge, Skilton, Priddle et al! My son's 18 now, been taking him there since he was about 6 or so.
If the turbo jet propels the vehicle what's the use for the huge drag slicks? You would think they would slap some smaller tires on it. It would cut friction and go faster, right?
When it gets to 320.99 they can't go any faster or they have to pay FINES and risk suspension. I know, unbelievably stupid especially considering the top fuel cars go 330+. As long as they limit the top end speed of these cars they'll never run E.T.'s that the combustion cars run, and I think NHRA keeps it that way on purpose. If they let them run 360, they could compete. I don't know how much they weigh though, slowing down from that speed might take too much room, but if the jet engine is much lighter than the combustion engine then they could.
What's the point of the first part before it stages up? When it's popping and smoking? Is that basically like clearing the pipes before you opener up for the full qtr mile?
It's just part of the "fire show" they put on for spectators. There is a video on TH-cam somewhere that explains the start up procedure and why they shoot the fireballs.
This is yet one of many videos that shows a speed and an ET, but fails to show the distance. Consequently, there are debates in the comments as to whether this is a quarter mile or the newer 1000 feet standard. So, WHICH is it???
+victoryredcolorado Thanks for the reply. What is 'obvious' is subjective. Although it is very entertaining to watch, I and likely most TH-cam viewers do not closely follow drag racing, at least not enough to know for certain whether 1/4 mile has been totally eliminated by the NHRA in favor of 1000 feet, or whether there is an NHRA category for jet powered cars, or whether the jet powered race is confined to 1000 feet DESPITE not being an NHRA event. (whether it's an NHRA event or not, the same concern exists that prompted the change to 1000 feet - the cars have become so fast that most tracks don't have enough track left over to ensure a safe stop)
Yah its like an normal car to drive nothing special. The only thing is that it has not the best mpg and it is not that maneuverable like an smart or so. I have it too i can really recommend this car. There are some nice modifications like an afterburner that makes it a bit faster i have it too i can really recommend it and it doesnt cost so much. ;D
Jet cars are about 2-3 seconds faster than top dragster which go 7.70 - 6ish seconds at 170-200 mph, so about 100-130 mph faster, TAD's go around 250-270 mph, so about 30-50 mph faster, and top fuel is in the 330 range and around 3.70 seconds, so jet dragsters go about 30-40 mph and about a second slower than top fuel. (This is all off the top of my head, so please do correct me if I'm wrong)
The problem with jet cars they require vast amounts of air so first 50 or so metres they are relatively slow compared to a dragster as soon as the airflow increases the speed picks up dramatically without the afterburner be it hand made they would be even slower of the linemore air more speed
This is one of those things that regardless how loud it is on your phone you could not imagine it in real life. Definitely worth the 50 bucks to go out and see the drag races
I don't know anything about these fueler do they use an engine from a jet? or what someone explain any car enthusiasts that knows what type of engine this thing has
Usually they run a jet engine out of a helicopter and most of the time they run them on either kerosene or diesel because Jet A is way too expensive for something that is considered an exhibition type car and the car owner only gets paid a small show up fee or an even smaller cut of the nights proceeds.
+Turbo Busa i was going through some messages on here and thought i would reply to a few. I know Sammy and a few of us were talking about putting together a rocket car if NHRA would allow them again but that's not going to happen so scrap that idea.....
+scott holdridge I remember the rocket cars. Never got to see his Vanishing Point FC though. Saw the "Spirit of 76'" Mustang & one called the "Chicago Patrol" I believe. Both at New England Dragway a long time ago.
+MoxieMike66 I would love to run one though I don't know a lot about them I know people who do. From what I understand you couldn't really race them because of the unpredictable time of EXACTLY when it is going to leave.
+The Real Foodster top fuel car = 19 grand a run........jet car = about 150 bucks per run......not too shabby and not too far off for something we maintain in our garage at home. LOL
Times are Correct, nitro cars are quicker & faster in the 1/4 mile.....but nitro top fuelers are geared for instant hookup & run up of their direct drive trannys...jet cars don't have the instant start off the line but would have a much greater top end speed/et in a longer distance......So.....jet cars lose in a 1/4 mile match up but would smoke 'em on a 1/2 mile, etc track......nitro cars are geared to max out at 1/4 mile and after that would not have any more top end...i.e., they've topped out their gearing.
Whoever came up with these is a madman. A glorious madman

Add couple of wings, remove the wheels, your good to go in the air.
MarkHD i think it was the other way around, they took off a couple wings and added wheels and put it on the road
Kinda there would be problems xD but yea in general you got it!
MarkHD You need the wheels to take off though...
You would need wheels to take off and needs to be gears. Also you would need a yoke. You would need some protection. And hood aerodynamics

Yeah it probably doesn't have an NCAP rating - Passenger Safety Rating - 1 Star - Passengers head came off while accelerating.

well they have the same safety systems as top fuel

Nope they can still technically run
If the turbo jet propels the vehicle what's the use for the huge drag slicks? You would think they would slap some smaller tires on it. It would cut friction and go faster, right?
These are small tires! Look at them, the rears look like tires a NASCAR would run.
not if you consider how much the jet weighed
Absolutely impresive

I got to see scotty heat run at great lake drag way in 9-4-14 and go 300 mph

Use logic, please
Impossible

Yah its like an normal car to drive nothing special. The only thing is that it has not the best mpg and it is not that maneuverable like an smart or so. I have it too i can really recommend this car. slower to around the same speed

I wonder how the car stays planted on the ground without a wing.
The engine is tilted down slightly to give downforce. Because it's straight thrust, there's no torque trying to make the car lift.
That is awesome!
Will it fit in my Honda
I need this games in Xbox or PlayStation 4 please I can't waiting 😳
So the pop things are for show because I've never seen anything with jet engines do that other than cars trucks etc..
I asked a team about that once and that's mostly what it's for. Pure entertainment. Glorious, thunderous, entertainment.
Many tracks don't want these jet cars because they distroy the asphalt.
If tracks aren't prepared they can destroy more than just the track surface
7.. 6... 5.. 4.. engine ignition starts.. 3 ... 2... 1.. LIFT OFF!
