The villi are folds in the lining of organs like the small intestine.
The villi increases the surface area of the small intestine. The folds only the villi are called microvilli. These smaller folds increase the surface area even more. By increasing the surface area of the lining of the small intestine will increase the rate of absorption of nutrients into the blood.
The villi have a thin cell membrane, this is to increase the rate of absorption of nutrients into the blood.
Capillaries provide a good blood supply in the villi so that nutrients can be carried away more quickly, so that more food can be absorbed.
