    Lol I’d like to add that hating Tax class doesn’t mean you’re gonna hate Tax. I had a really bad teacher but when I actually started working in Tax I realized I loved it.

    Courtney. I know a few people that need to hear your preaching!! SO much truth here. Time management & communication are KEY for tax pros.

    I am single never been married, no kids and would enjoy just going to work and going home and not big on traveling the world. I am 36 and hope to get my cpa license next year unless life changes. I enjoy numbers, helping people, I'm a blood hound when i work on something, and do not stop until i find the answer. I would love the chance to just go to work, go home, very routine, and maybe some lite travel but given a certain area of clients.

    Hearing about the writing makes me not want to do audit but at the same time I’m taking tax right now and hate it 😭

      It's not that bad - you will be fine. If you hate tax, you won't like working in tax. I seriously doubt it.

    A friend of mine who’s an auditor got send from Miami to the middle of nowhere in Texas to audit a company that killed cows and he said the smell was the worst and he was kind of sitting in the janitors closet...that’s why I commented!!

    • @TheAccountingStruggle

      Haha that’s gross, this is why I didn’t want to be an auditor

    I want to be able to write as much as possible as opposed to sitting behind a screen all day. I'm a future Accounting-Marketing major and ngl, a lifestyle of gluing my eyes to the screen for 10 hrs a day sounds like abject torture, but I love diving into balancing, accounts, investigating where things came from/go, etc. I dislike cubical environments though so idk man we'll see what we'll see lmao

    I’m going straight into transaction advisory services in advisory. Had an offer for audit but the thought of busy seasons and inventory counts made tax and audit both non bueno for me.

      Advisory is an amazing choice! You definitely won’t regret it.

    Starting in Public Accounting here in Miami there was a difference between starting salaries for auditors and for tax. For us it was huge. Like, junior tax associate was $16/hour and audit junior staff was $50,000. My guess is probably because they did hire us as immigrants that come with a diploma from abroad and at least we could enter the accounting scene.

    • @TheAccountingStruggle
      @TheAccountingStruggle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I guess it depends on the location and firm but typically starting off the salaries are about the same.

    hello, first of all, I would like to thank you for the great and informative work. I have one more question that will obviously interest a lot of people, and that is how much of a role do you think IQ plays in success in big4?

    • @TheAccountingStruggle
      @TheAccountingStruggle  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for those kind words. I can’t say for sure but I think IQ is less of a factor than work ethic. You need the right mindset and stamina to make it in a fast paced environment like that

    I graduated with an Accounting Degree in 2015. But now i want to try auditing. What do you recommend for making the transition without any experience?

    • @Stupidoldlady
      @Stupidoldlady ปีที่แล้ว

      Look into auditing beyond external / financial statement audit. Areas like internal audit and compliance audit can be fun and lucrative as well.

    Hi, I have a question that I need an expert to answer. It’s not related to this video but I wanted you to see it. If I am a business that was to buy things with a tax exemption certificate, but sold the item to a buyer in a state that I do not have a nexus in, meaning I don’t have to charge sales tax, can I no longer use the tax exemption certificate, since you have to charge sales tax when selling items that you used a tax exemption certificate on?

    • @TheAccountingStruggle
      @TheAccountingStruggle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi-I honestly don’t know. A SALT tax expert would be better equipped to answer that.

      I did my first internship in summer at one firm then did a Spring Busy Season internship at another firm which is where I ended up working. I have never worked in audit before.

    Hi, your videos are great. I have a mayor in accounting but I have always worked with entry level accounting and I’m trying to take the cpa next year in order to move to an specific field in accounting. I graduated in 2013 and have two kids. Because of that I I’m afraid to start the journey. Any recommendations for me ? Thanks in advance

      Thanks so much! I know that with children its a lot harder to find time to study but it can definitely still be done. I would suggest making a very strict study schedule and thinking about who is in your village that can help with the kids when you study. If everyone is on board and understands what the commitment is, then you will be able to get some quality study time in.

    Hello
    What are the exit opportunities for tax accountants? Is it hard to transfer from tax to other areas?

    • @TheAccountingStruggle
      @TheAccountingStruggle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi. The longer you stay in tax, the harder it will be to transition out without taking a pay cut. I left after 3 years. Transitioning into another regulatory role after seems like it would help

    Thank you for sharing this insightful video, The Accounting Struggle. I had subscribed to vlogger Stephanie a couple of years ago for information, she does have some helpful accountant videos. I am wanting my next two careers to be: Forensic Accountant with Audit, and Data Engineer. And I am learning these two do mix well together as I listen to TH-cam videos, webinars, and read LinkedIn posts. So I am focused on learning more about these two careers.

    • @TheAccountingStruggle

      Forensic accounting sounds sooo interesting. I think you will be in good shape if you take up data engineering and start with auditing, they will give you the skills you need for forensic accounting.
