Martin Kemp never played bass on this song. It was a synthesiser bass, Gary has said in interviews. I always originally thought it was a real bass as well but I was never convinced that Martin was skilled enough to write and record a killer bass line like this. But yeah, it's a synth :)

Always take your time when learning any bass line, break it up into different parts, play it slowly for a while. They when you are ready , play along with the song. Also , there are some great free programs out there like Audacity, and you can take snippets of each song and put it on loop , plus slow it way down.
