My first luxury watch was a 70th birthday present for myself last November and pondered on which watch from the black bay line I could purchase. The staff at the AD in Nottingham really took care of me and the whole experience was 5 star. After looking and trying on numerous of black bay's I purchased the Black bay GMT After 3 months of ownership I'm still in love with it like a first date as a school boy. So summing up yes I would love a Rolex but I would likely be pushing up daisy's before I got one so for me. I went for a Tudor which is in my opinion is a better option for me than Rolex at least I can wear it anywhere without being fearful for my life.

Not competitors really are they? If you buy into tudor, the rolex group wins anyway. Tudors market then expands, then they become the norm at 5-7k, whilst allowing rolex to move all their ranges to 15k+. Its a marketing win-win for rolex. You said it the wrap up, when you can now rationalise why you wanted tudor and didnt want rolex (but still paid them)

Rolex actually doesn’t own Tudor. It’s the Hans Wildorf foundation that owns Tudor and Rolex.

    • @RaymondTusk74
      @RaymondTusk74 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I agree that they aren’t competitors from the consumer perspective too. The styles are similar, but I like almost all the Tudor versions better. I can afford the Rolex, but the waiting list game is nauseating and not fun. I can pay aftermarket prices, but then I’d rather get a vintage reference. At that point, I’m deciding between two very similar watches: a vintage Rolex or a modern Tudor (Pepsi for example). I want both…I may just get both and have one I baby/collect and one I can really wear. If you can’t afford both or you’re not a collector, the Tudor is a no brainer you’ll never be sad about.

I have a Tudor BB 41 with the Blue bezel and I always want to wear it above all my other watches. I love it. Tudor offers the best all round package in my opinion. Possibly going to look at the Chrono or GMT next but I know I’ll always want to wear my BB.

Love my Tudors!!! Great watches in their own right. I’m not a part of the BB58 “smaller is better “crowd because I have big 8.25 inch wrists… but if the smaller watches bring more into the Tudor fold, I’m all for it. The BB41 base works well for me. I thought I would have trouble finding a watch I love more than my BBGMT .. but the Chrono Reverse Panda gives it a run for my wrist time. Both watches are very easy to breathe in new life by putting them on color matched CrafterBlue curved-end rubber straps.

......and ONE reason why they should not..... once decided on a Rolex, nothing else will do, nothing else will fill that space, no other brand has the same reputation and standing. Every story I have heard about taking something else inevitably ends in disappointment. Any substitute or temporary purchase is still not the real thing, every time you look at your wrist you do not see the word Rolex, your heart will sink. Modern Tudors are not Rolex, they are their own thing. Buy Tudor for Tudor not because it is 'close' to something else. You will still always want that something else.

I’ve had a few Tudors in my time, including a couple of Black Bays, but for me, the one that stands out the most, the one that surpasses its Rolex counterpart, it’s the Black Bay GMT. Subtle where the Rolex is flash, boldly quiet where the Rolex is shouting, and offering a movement with great accuracy and an excellent power reserve, it’s the only Tudor that’s made a permanent spot in my collection and one that is always a joy to wear. No color bleed, no cyclops, no polished center links or jangly jubilee bracelet, no waiting list. It’s my favorite GMT watch design of all time. Though, admittedly, I’ve been eyeing the Black Bay 58 in blue to sneak into the watch box as well, as I’ve always wanted a blue snowflake Tudor Submariner, but don’t want to mortgage my house to get one.

I actually prefer my 58 blue to a modern Rolex. I’m old enough to remember old Rolex’s in the shop windows and the people who used to buy them. The ones without the tacky engraved rehaut rings that are usually wonky. They we’re bought by people who work hard and done well or for a special occasion. Once bought they we’re worn and enjoyed and they looked cool. This is where Tudor is now and it’s nice to see. People buying Rolex’s for fashion or sticking them away while banging on about values is all a bit sad and boring.

The Rolex Daytona is now mainly bought by people who don't know anything about watches, or actually love watches, but just as status symbols to post on their instagrams. Covered all in diamonds and look like gaudy toys for little girls. Sold by ADs like Philip Marco in Rodeo Drive who's main clientel are dumb rappers now. Same like Richard Millie plastic watches(that you can't even tell the time on) that he sells to dumb rappers like JayZ for 2 million dollars. Rolex, APs, Patek...they don't give one frack about watch lovers anymore. They care about celebrities buying(and advertising for them to the other rich dummies online) ugly, gaudy, or overpriced watches as "luxury" status symbols only. Its similar to Louis Vuitton. They switch from actual quality many decades ago, to basically fake leather canvas that falls apart in the sun or rain, but now mainly marketed to basketball players and rappers who only care about status "labels". I would never save up to buy a Rolex now. Even for free i would sell it and buy something else. They don't respect the "common" folk anymore, or actual people that actually love watches, and they are laughing all the way to the bank. My "Rolex" is a Longines Hydroconquest.

I truly think that a black bay 58 is cooler than a sub. The sub is the most unimaginative luxury watch to get. It's the go to watch that uncles and aunties wear. The Tudor black bay chrono is better than a daytona. It has a date, something the Daytona doesn't have. The only thing that the Daytona has is its resale price. So by having one on your wrist, its coolness comes from the fact you "got it earlier at a much lower price" and you feel smug about it.

not better than daytona. If you look closely, the second hand for the chrono is so jittery in Tudor vs Rolex or any speedmaster. It shows Tudor has third rate movements. But either way Rolex wins if you buy Tudor because their parent group is still getting the money.

My favorite Tudor: the BB 58 due to its slimness and diameter below 40 mm in relation to its water resistance, 200 m!. And it's accuracy and power reserve of more than 60h.

Thank you for your video, which makes me realize that I made a good decision purchasing one!

I always loved the Rolex Submariner, and as is typical, I finally was able to afford one this past year. Everything with Rolex and the ability to buy a submariner by walking into an AD was thrown out the door. I always loved the BB58, but I had preferred a sub. My other favorite Rolex is the GMT Master II. Well...that's a pipe dream as well. I *settled* for a Tudor BB GMT. While I love the watch, I'm not in love with it and I fell into the category of...buying something to settle the itch. In the end it did not (and I suggest to anyone, don't make an impulse buy!!!) I should have held out, saved, and purchased one if I ever found the right deal.
I find it frustrating that by all accounts, the official word is that I now have to find an AD and start to build a relationship by purchasing time pieces I have absolutely no interest in. The industry for someone who finally put themselves in a position to afford one, has gone to shit. It's really, really, sad. So sad, that it almost makes me never want to buy a Rolex, the same way that Jay Leno will never buy a Ferrari.

I hear and agree with every word you have written. I'd set my heart on the two tone GMT. Of course that was a "pipe dream". However, I got lucky in that viewed the GMT in two tone alongside a two tone and chocolate dial Datejust and a two tone Yacht-Master with the chocolate dial. And you know what, I instantly went off the GMT. The Datejust didn't do anything for me but, the Yacht-Master blew me away. It's one of those watches in the catalogue that I didn't even give a second look. Buy boy, it is something else in the flesh. If you haven't seen one, can I urge you to go and have a peek at one. 🙂

@@ashestoashes3107 they’re following up with a Tudor because they can’t get the Rolex. I’m not crapping on Tudor. In fact some of their pieces are absolutely lovely and I do see myself buying another one. But in the same respect my father bought himself a submariner when he *made it*. I wanted to do the same for myself. He has a few Swiss time pieces, but as a kid I was always enamored with his sub date.

The GMT is the best bang for the buck luxury tool watch on the market. Date window scares have driven the price down to nearly 1/10th a Rolex Pepsi on secondary. That can easily be fixed by Tudor as mine was and runs perfectly for 70 hours at +2. I love the size. I really don’t want them to make a 58 GMT in Pepsi color way if at all for that matter. It’s an all rounder GADA watch with complications and specs at a steal of a price.

They are much less noticeable in person (when not focused on in a TH-cam video) and actually add a bit of character to the watch. So what that they are not actual rivets holding the links together? So much about the design of a watch is about aesthetics, and Tudor got a lot right with this piece. I can’t wait to put it on in the morning.
