The End of Lorretta Lynn's

  • With the final days of Team Two Two out at The Ranch, the kiddos put their best foot forwards learning as much as they could with it being their first time at Loretta's. The greatest in any sport or profession never entered the 'big leagues' with an upper hand- they always had to work their way up to BECOME one of the greats. We think both Tate and Kiah had a much-needed eye-opening experience that will help them determine how bad they want to make their dream of riding dirt bikes professionally a reality...
Welcome to TwoTwoTV! We're the Reeds. Chad Reed is a multi-time supercross and motocross champion and the record holder for the most main event starts in AMA supercross history, with 265 starts! Ironically when Chad retired from racing, the kids decided to start. It’s a full circle movement for the Reed family. Join us as we navigate retirement and also starting again. We bring you on the journey as our kids learn with Chad and Ellie. Taking a fresh approach to coaching and learning with a major focus on fundamentals and solid foundations. Our hope is the viewers can also learn and be inspired as the kids strive for their own success in this great sport. We hope you enjoy the ride!

Chad... I was there that day in NZ when you were 15, Patetonga round of the nz nationals. I was rockin my cr250 midpacking the intermediate class. Three thinks I remember bout that day.... the first lap dropping of the top of the hill into the valley of dust where ya can't see nothing and ya surrounded by 40 other dudes who also can't see nothing, The huge ass jump on inside line of the back corner that no one in my class hit and... Chad Reed the 15 yr old aussie kid who come to nz to race the big boy pros cos he couldn't race pros in aus until he was 16. Wow. You were wicked. The King Brothers and Copkin were world class pros. A world champ. The NZ Des nations team. If you thought that was getting your ass handed to ya then no wonder you become one of the best. What a inspiration 🤙🤙

I will say I like to watch this channel because you show the struggles of being a father and even with your greatness, you show that you have to teach that to your kids and it's not just a given because they are on top machines. One of the things that strikes me watching the Loretta's "tapes" is that Chad, having been to the biggest events in the MX world and being totally used to the size and nature of these events, is not overwhelmed by them. He has spent years training himself to not be.
Where as the kids are at THE biggest event they have ever been in, the longest races, the toughest track, the biggest reputation...pretty scarey and intimidating. For that reason I think the overwhelming nature of this event on the kids might be a little lost on Chad, with all due respect :)
I think next year having gotten the first one under their belts they will be way better, from this reason alone. Let alone the training and experience between now and then.
As I have commented before, great to watch and thank you for the openness of the videos. Good luck to the kids in the meantime.

You guys get it. So difficult to navigate this stuff. I am lucky enough to be the father(not tooting my horn) of a damn good basketball player who played at a D1 school for free. All through middle school and high school, all I heard was, "If Fletcher could just turn into a beast- he could play at any program in the country." It just wasn't his personality- he would rather be a great team member than be the #1 guy on the team. I know team sports are different than individual sports but I guess where I am going with this is, skill and talent only gets you so far. If you can't line up on that gate and truly believe you are the best(Kobe), then you will never reach your full potential. We always told him that EFFORT was everything and excuses were not tolerated. We didn't care if he missed every shot in the game but if the effort wasn't there, that was not ok. Keep up the good work guys. You guys are wonderful people and I look forward to joining you guys in your journey. Practice like you've never won and race like you've never lost! Take care.

Haven't been watching for long but from what i have seen Tate is for sure struggling from the mental aspects of racing. Letting the nuances get to him. Maybe with time he can over come it but right doesnt look so good. I understand where hes coming from, no one wants to crash or get injured but it is the unfortunate probability of racing and at some point is almost guaranteed given enough time and races. Maybe one day we all can see another Reed win a championship. Until then wish Tate best of luck and you all the best.

What most drives Tate? Fun? Win? Challenge himself? Impress family? Other? As kids it’s difficult to be conscious of (let alone articulate) what drives us to give our best. The Reeds do a good job of observing what drives their kids and experimenting with different motivational strategies. Nick Wey, in the limited content I've seen, follows the “did you have fun? Great!” path. This may have changed as Vincent got older and moved up classes, but maybe not. As kids age and competition increases these outcomes-based motivational strategies reasonably creep in. In this video, Chad adjusted from a focus on an outcome measure-finishing top 20-15, to a process measure-riding hard until the end. Getting into Loretta's, particularly as an alternate (hello imposter syndrome), is a lot of pressure. Being Chad Reed's kid is a lot of pressure. The path we envision and the motivational strategies we want for our kids isn’t always what drives them. Great lessons here. ❤
Disclaimer: I don’t have kids, merely making observations. 😂

That’s really about as tough as it gets. The heat, the rigorous schedule and the gnarly track. Only gets better from here. A bit higher elevation with heat and humidity is tougher than near sea level heat and humidity. Barometric pressure is a bit lower so the body works harder.

Keep it up guys, you're still impressing me. Im very new to the sport and holy has it opened my eyes to how hard it is. Ive played highish level rugby, surfing, athletics etc and i can honestly say, they dont come close to how hard this sport is to be good at.
Starting the sport at 34 may make it harder mind haha
Keep pushing, keep progressing, take it slow and you'll get where you want to be. You have incredible skills, both of you!

Just a thought but it seems like Tate took a step backwards when you guys started modifying the bikes, maybe more power wasn't the right direction?
I would be interested to see him ride a bike with a stock motor. Sometimes being easier to ride makes you faster than having more power does. When you feel like you can wring it out and actually use all the power. Sometimes, it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than it is to ride a fast bike slow.

It’s so funny seeing all the negative comments, and most are probably from people that have never even raced… With more experience will come more speed and race craft… As far as conditioning is concerned, you have to remember the riders at the back of the pack are probably trying harder and working harder than the people that are leading the race…
