FYI, the Greenland mega-tsunami was generated by a landslide that was ~3200 ft wide and ~1000ft tall from the Karrat Fjord and fell 1500ft into the bay. The landslide was thought to be generated by an earthquake, but it was later found that this is not the case as the seismic activity was produces by the landslide. As the landslide impacted the bay, it generates a 300ft wave that traveled down the bay decreasing in height as energy is dissapated (spelling?) from the waves relatively short length. The tsunami left four people missing and several damaged houses were reported at the village of Nuugaatsiaq. This event was similar to the Taan Forjd landslide generated tsunami of 2015 which caused a 950ft wave.

(Also, there's never a single wave, the train of waves always seem lower and slower than they really are, making people incorrectly assume they can film closely and safely walk away. The second wave is much quicker and far-reaching than the first)

      @MaritsView 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@Tjalve70 Well technically it makes a huge difference for surviving a tsunami.
A tsunami can travel easy up to 3 miles inland.
The Dutch has the North Sea but despite the sagnificant percentage below sea level, the Dutch are not in tsunami territory, it's an entire different matter, the only way would be if an massive asteroid was to fall in The North Sea.

Mainstream media, mainstream media....B b b blah blah blah.
Y'all mean mainstrean news agencies. Media = the whole shebang. TV of all and any kind, films, books, magazines, music, the internet...
And who created nainstream news? Who has consumed it? Who still consumes it? Who, in that way, helped create it?
The audiences watching, reading and listening to it. Those consuming it.
You think YT isn't mainstream? Of course it is now!
It was once seen as altetnative media, 20 years ago when I started working in the internet sector.
It's like a bunch of sheep, bleating out the same terms, which aren't even the correct terms and are obviously not fully understood. See it online, like it, parrot it back in other comment sections.
And I dare say it was covered by 'mainstream' news agencies in that country.
Number of times I've seen 'Mainstream media didn't even cover it', then done a search and found plenty of coverage. It's a lie. See comment below with links.
Seen people say the same thing ON MAINSTREAM NEWS YT CHANNELS! 🤣
Literally see the usual pseudointellectual claims that NO 'mainstream media' covered stories in comments under a story in a mainstream News agencies' YT channel. Makes no sense. It's a lie.
      Or stupidity.
If you wanna moan at someone, look in the mirror - if you've watched, listen to, read or shared any news items from 'mainstream media' (SMH), then YOU helped sustain and create the ideological octopus you're now moaning about!
And you think your alternative news sources have fewer biases than the bigger ones?
You think they don't become mainsteeam once their subs and views reach a certain level?
      Pfffft.
Seriously. Takes seconds to tear holes in your BS if you're ACTUALLY educated on it.
Not even ysing the correct terminology but grasps the complexity of interplay between media development, sociology, history and psychology...
And before anyone says anything, I spent 5 years training to become a news journalist (7 years in TV production) and that made me NOT go into news journalism. So I have a decent grasp of the issues.
Read up about the first Gulf War, French journalists and public protesters supporting them after a 24 hour news blackout.
Then go look in the mirror and you'll see a co-creater of this you now spout about.
Don't like news? Don't consume it.
You obviously consume it, else how would you know what's wrong with it?
If you don't consume it, how would you know what it covers or doesn't cover and what's wrong with it?
Either way, consuming it supports it. Which makes you part of the problem.
I don't read replies, so don't waste your time responding.
I know so of you will still reply, cos you'll be triggered and wanna have a go, because how could you possibly be part of the issue and creation?

But you are correct this small village can understand what Japan and Indonesia went through . And I figured this out by thinking with logic and going with what made sense . The wave heights all depends on what you're calling a wave. Neither this wave nor the Lituya Bay had WAVE FACES as high as what's described. Not even close. The incredible heights refer to the WAVE RUNUP on the immediate opposing land elevations to the landslides. The heights of the initial wave faces of both events that travelled down the bays, although certainly very high, were nowhere near the runup heights, and the runup height of this wave was not 300ft, it was 193meters (633ft), but a 300ft travelling wave could not have been generated. I don't know where the 300ft number came from. It is possible that the splash of the landslide and water displacement created an initial 300ft incline that sent a wave somewhere close to that toward the opposing slope. That initial wave would have expanded in concentric circles as it moved out from the landslide contact with the water, and where it hit the same slope as the landslide there could have been a runup on that side of the bay as high as 300ft. The direction of that initial wave and the shape of the opposing slope would have shaped the initial travelling wave. If the runup was at an angle to the direction of the initial wave, like it was at Lituya Bay, then as the runup slid down across the angle, you'd have to determine at what point the descending runup water becomes or joins the travelling wave and becomes part of a face that then became the wave that travelled down the bays, but the travelling waves were nowhere near the runup heights at their beginnings.

I don't think they planned on their afternoon going that way!, thus the dogs were where they are normally no fences or yards .
Ugh.....that was awful. It looks like the End of the Earth there..dark..sparse..cold.the sea taking over the land--
.so beautiful in reality I'm sure- seeing no roads, stores, ppl..it just seems surreal even without natures fury. So very sorry for your loss♡♡

Man took on the responsibility to take care of that animal, its a living creature just like we are,
And to some people, that is their children.
How would you like it if you were trapped and no one, not even your loved one, would save you?

    • @kinngrimm
      @kinngrimm 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@MoroccanAnwar that is a very hard to answer question i would guess and i am not an expert in that field anyways. It obviously depends on the event, then how much hight you can be on and what the ground surrounding you is made of. If you are 2 kilometers inwwards but everything is flat, it may not be enough. Also if you are on a hundred meter height landscape which is made up of mostly out of loose sand, it still may not be enough.
Rocky underground, a couple of kilometers land inwards and having at least hundred meters height i would guess may manage the lesser tzunamis.

@@MoroccanAnwar Someone who may help you with that is your insurance company though, they usually have maps with likelyhoods of natural accuring catastrophies/desasters and their likelyhood. They also have people trying to estimate the safty of buildingmaterials and other things. If i were you, that would be the first people i would check with. Your government too should have these maps, but i am not sure how easily one can get into conntact there. Here in germany we have i guess one could say a branch of the military called "desaster response", maybe that is something your country has too and also may have the information you are seeking.

It's basically in the middle of the night and this kid has just been running for his life! (You can hear him breathing??) He has to see his house and life being swept away in 2 minutes. Four of his neighbors - perhaps even friends or relatives - are dying in these moments. Would you have done a better job in this terrible situation? Or might you sound like a spoiled stupid brat if you are seriously complaining about a video filmed by a kid in this terrible situation is a bit shaky? Why not just appreciate that the kid decided to capture this terrible moment at all to allow us watch potentially one of the very few real videos of a mega-tsunami? Think of it...
