I can't see any comments for it so: The capacitor and resistor between the micro and pot is an easy way to do a basic ADC.. You toggle the IO pin's pull up/down resistors/internal logic and count how many cycles it takes for the pin to go high/low, this is the analog value. It's not super accurate, but for something like this, plenty good enough and you can use a cheaper micro.
source and drain - after teaching MOSFETs to students for quite some time now, I came up with a different interpretation: the MOSFETs drain is the sink where the current from the load disappears into the transistor in order to again come out from the source into the circuit...
When I heard the pump, I had instant flashbacks to my brother's silk-screening shop. The atomizer gun reminds me of a spotting gun used to remove unwanted ink splats on silk screened garments. Using carbon-tetrachloride squirted through a very tiny nozzle, it put out a strong fine needle-like spray that was forceful enough to break up the ink. The unit wasn't rechargeable, which would have been helpful indeed, but I'm sure it would have been today. Being the early 1990s, rechargeable devices like we have today weren't as common.
The mosfet trigger is a common add on for battery airsoft guns as it stops the contacts arcing and can have active braking and 3-shot and other functions.
The diode after the regulator might be an alternative to a resistor or inductor. May 'good' supplies would rectify and smooth, then a small drop in voltage, followed by another capacitor., so it may be belt and braces against motor interference.

Sometimes I wished we could send back a thank-you note to the original electronics/mechanical engineers who took some pride in coming up with a careful design, which is even more amazing when we know the budget constraints these people need to meet, and also the need to optimize the speed of assembly.
Schottky in that position could be to allow the micro to be powered in isolation during production test (eg. for programming). Similar to how you use one in a PIC design to allow the programming lead to power the micro without back-feeding the whole circuit.
I know that could be some additional work, but also having the values for the small nF capacitors would be great for understanding the general scheme.😊
Typically a decoupling capacitor will be around 100nF. The only way to test them would be to remove them from the PCB. Any manual soldering of multilayer capacitors poses a risk of fracturing them.
The data sheet for a 7805 regulator suggests 1 uf on the input and 0.1 uf on the output, but there is very wide latitude in what will work. As Clive points out, 100 nf, which is 0.1 uf, is very common as a bypass capacitor. The other way to think about likely values is to consider those 10K resistor / capacitor values as low pass filters (they are), and decide what frequency you want as a cutoff frequency. You can then calculate the capacitor size. For instance a 100 nf cap will have a corner frequency of 160 Hz, which might be a little higher than you want to filter motor cogging. A 1 uf cap would have a corner frequency of 16 Hz, which would be lower than necessary, so you might pick something like a 0.47 uF cap. But 1 uf might be cheaper than 0.47 uf, so you might instead pick the larger cap. A lot of this sort of engineering is to calculate the ideal part value, then value engineer by finding the cheapest part that is "close enough".

Bought one of these that worked for about two hours and then wouldn’t run unless the charger was plugged into it. Took it apart and found cold solder joints on the wires soldered to the stack of three batteries.
Update: She liked it a lot but it quit working. I measure only tenths of a volt across the battery. Some differences are that mine does not have the sticker on the outside, the high pressure hose is clear rather than the black in your unit, the battery lays across the bottom rather than where yours is, and the charger is a wall wart rather than a USB connection. The motor is showing a nontrivial amount of rust on its outer shell, so apparetly things leaked inside. There is no evidence of any protection on the battery... I can find it in my ebay purchase history where the image says "Lifetime Warranty" but ebay can't find the item any longer and the seller doesn't list it in their store. I've dropped them a note but don't hold out much hope. At least it wasn't that expensive...

@7:00 1500 mAh from 3 18650 batteries is past respectable, common max is 3600 and these are 5000. Well past respectable into the "we should test this to see if it's actually true" range.
So far past respectable they're pretty mediocre. :) The cells are in series to produce a battery rated at 11.1v 1500mAh, that means the cells are also rated at 1500mAh, if they were in parallel it would be a 3.7v 4500mAh battery. Of course the actual capacity may be lower.
So my silly question is I have a set of low voltage fairy lights with a three AA timer pack. I have quite a few of these timer packs at my disposal and I'd hope to do a UV LED and glow resin project. Unfortunately much to my chagrin upon finally getting around to measure the voltage output to the leads of these timer battery packs I come to find that they are only putting out 0.020 volts at the lead wires for the OEM fairy lights. Long story short am I missing something or is there anyway that I might be able to continue with my intended project utilizing these packs or do I need to find a new avenue for powering my UV LEDs?
20mV is 0V for most purposes, have you checked the timer, batteries and any connections? Maybe the lights are pulling down the voltage, or need to be connected if they're not already. Even if they're not suitable, then it could be pretty simple to put something together, I imagine you should be able to find timer boards somewhere, battery packs are widely available. A microcontroller and an RTC module would work for a timer, and you could program sequences into it, if you like that sort of thing.

Is it really 11th generation charging? and do the 800ml bottles have a net weight of 7kg as per the advert? and importantly does it really stop So2 and Pvc gas being created from water?as per the literature on ebay surely the blue LEDs will protect us, by a more complete disenfection! thank god it has built in battery so its not limited by distance.....All this for between 28 and 78 dollars....I can see better uses for this when the price drops after the pandemic... like touching up creasote on the garden fence panels....Thanks BigClive
Hellow, I bought my atomizer 1 month ago, and in one ocation I charge the atomizer with another charger, and more later I tried to charge with the original charger, but the problem is that when I disconnect the charger from the atomizer, this doesn't charge, I have to conmect to the stream to make function. ¿What can I do?
Bought one of these that worked for about two hours and then wouldn’t run unless the charger was plugged into it. Took it apart and found cold solder joints on the wires soldered to the stack of three batteries.
Seems more like a motorized water gun.
Hi Clive you ever thought of doing a test/teardown of the Brennenstuhl energy meter 4 way gang socket. be interested to see what you think of it
Maybe the diode has something to do with lowering the max analog voltage that can come from the pot. Only thing that is immediately obvious.
No-touch atomized whisky shot dispenser
1,8 grams of pure bac for 100 grams of liquid is A LOT. 2 grams for 1000 grams (1 liter) is safe.
HACK IT INTO A PAINT GUN
Piezoelectric circuitry at the nozzle ? From what i can see, there is something there powered from the trigger PCB. To the left of where there's room for something that appears missing
Just LEDs.
@@bigclivedotcom ah I see, just a cheap-fancy squirter. For... a wet breeze on a hot day ?
supe- soker
It could be adapted to that.
i think it actually says "Rechargeable Automesser Gun"
And of course it's fitted with LEDs to clean in the dark...🤔
By far the most important thing about Clive’s cleaning liquid shmooo, vegans can eat it.

@@user-yw8sr3uj1w it is called silly auto correct on iPad. Either that or my sausage fingers. On the other hand, if it can still be understood then all is good. It is one of the great things about language, you can get the grammar and spelling wrong but the message is more often still correctly interpreted by the reader. Obviously caveats on that such as Americans who take everything to heart. Messy Kweznuz, as Baldric would write.
They probably also use the motor current to detect low battery...
just how complicated can you make a spray bottle
looked well made
Great video! Just wondering how the heating (to create a fog) is done if there's any? Otherwise it should just be a sprayer?
No heating. Just a wobble plate liquid pump.
Nice water pistol
Looks like Ricks portal gun
@7:00 1500 mAh from 3 18650 batteries is past respectable, common max is 3600 and these are 5000. Well past respectable into the "we should test this to see if it's actually true" range.
So far past respectable they're pretty mediocre. :)
The cells are in series to produce a battery rated at 11.1v 1500mAh, that means the cells are also rated at 1500mAh, if they were in parallel it would be a 3.7v 4500mAh battery.
Last time I was here this early my gas was still dinosaurs
