      dank u well, bedankt..
      such a informative video,....
      you must visit the binnehof *netherlands parliment in the hague...
      and kings day* prinsedag , its simmilar to the UK royal opening of parliment , even with a speech from the throne...
      charles III cousin is king wilehelm alexander of the netherlands..
      and netherlands has provinces* each one with kings or queens commissioners or govenors, and regional capitals...
      you may have something simmilar in UK, first ministers in scotland, northern ireland, wales...
      metropolitan mayors in london, manchester etc
      you may also be very familiar with naked attraction, the traitors and other originally dutch programmes and tv series...
      even heinken beer & amstel and wafles...

    Thank you for this delightful video. This brought back memories of when I visited The Netherlands, we stayed in Rotterdam and Amsterdam, saw the Hague, Delft, and went to a farm where Gouda cheese was made, and of course we brought back loads of it. Great video, I have worked in the Netherlands many times but always drove past these two gems on my way to other destinations. The lean you saw on many of the houses is intentional. Many of the buildings have hooks on the gables to facilitate lifting goods to the upper floors, and the lean of the building assists with this

    • @MemorySeekers
      @MemorySeekers  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for sharing that information. I have never heard of this before. An intentional lean! Makes sense though, very interesting 😊👍

    Thanks for your wonderful tour of those cities. Such beautiful buildings and many of the cobbles looked original. Didn’t spot many narrowboats on the canals. Are the waterways mainly used for tourists?

    • @captainchaos3667
      @captainchaos3667 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Narrowboats are a typically British thing; you don't see them much in the Netherlands. But the canals of Gouda and Amersfoort are indeed mostly used for leisure and tourism these days.

    The forward leaning houses were build as merchant houses and they used to have a tackle on the top floor just below the roof to haul the goods up for storage, if those houses would have been straight up the merchandise would be clanging against the wall and windows. You'll find these houses in all old trading cities like Amsterdam and Leiden. Btw Amersfoort is not located in Holland but in the province of Utrecht 😉 Nicely done though.

    • @MemorySeekers
      @MemorySeekers  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So interesting thank you! Makes a lot of sense, and clears up why I thought they would be leaning when others were not, as if the street was unstable. Thanks!
