Rudy is a fantastic mage when it comes to supporting his allies and the utility he provides. He's really adept and slowing down his enemies and making them easy pickings for his allies but often hesitates when it comes to actually attacking. I really love this because the story sets him up as a prodigy but with a very believable reason on why he can't just dominate all his opponents.
rudy passing out has nothing to do with how much magic he used, because he has such a big mana pool lol. ghislsaine said before that rudy gets nervous and shaky whenever someone is in his face trying to attack. he spent 20 years in a room NEETing away. so having to get over his anxiety and fight someone alone with out ruijerd and eris was a challenge for him mentally and thats why he hesitated to jump in and help until the doggo came.
If I remember correctly in the LN when the Smuggler was holding the hostage Rudy said in hes inner monologue that North God style uses all the possible dirty tricks to get an advantage during a fight. That's why many people dislike both using and fighting it.
Yea, north-god style user have a combat technique using hostage. I was a little disappointed with the adaptation of the fight this time. In the novel, even with foresight eye, Rudy still can't anticipate the smuggler attack because of the unusual movements of north-god style users like using sword with foot etc. And the thing that monkey thrown is nothing. But because of north-god style user habits, when it says "something" they will close their eyes and create an opening for Rudy to attack and finish him. Impossible for Rudy to win alone and foresight eye isn't that strong against saint-tier people and above, they know how to deal with it easily. So don't overestimate Rudy in close combat situation
@@bad_ill5626 actually the this episode showed his foresight didn't help at all because it showed the outline was not ahead, plus the knife that hit rudy in the leg was proof of the foresight being of little use to guys like Cleaner

The show does a good job of lampshading Rudy's fluctuating power levels in this episode, IMO. We clearly see (and hear, through his heartbeat) that Rudy panics when fighting humans to the death. And whenever he is training with Eris or Ghislaine or Rudjerd, he knows he is not in any real danger, nor will he be backed into a corner where he has to kill someone. I thought it was a nice touch for the show to bring his humanity to the forefront in this fight; Rudy is not a remorseless killer. In a fight to incapacitate or disable foes, he's probably the strongest on the continent, especially if he gets the jump on his enemies. But put him in a kill or be killed situation, and he's liable to freeze up.
But sadly the show is trying to make him stronger than he is.. In this fight he looses and would have died if Gesse didn't punch the guy's head with a rock. Is a big part of the story that Rudeus is NOT stronger than most people, specially in this stage of his life.

It wasn't explained, but the reason Rudeus was stripped naked and thrown water is because beast people think this is the most humiliating thing you can do for them. The ranks in the 3 mains school of swordmanship are Beginner
Rudeus definitely does not utilize his arsenal of spells like he should because he has little to no experience fighting other humans/humanoids. This lack of experience also leads him to favor certain spells over others even when they clearly aren't suited for the situation. Add to that the fact that he is afraid to kill people and he basically handicaps himself when fighting another human. Rudeus is a saint class water mage, this guy is a saint class north style swordsman. Make no mistake a Saint Class sword fighter is an extremely tough opponent who could probably beat Paul in a sword fight and at close range a regular mage who needs incantations would be dead meat. Short range, Rudeus should have no chance but thanks to his incantationless magic he can fight him and if he didn't handicap himself he could probably win. This shows clearly how wrong Paul was to put his kid ahead of someone like Zenith who has tons of experience while Rudeus literally has zero.
I like that his doubts about the fight with the contrabantist were shown. This shows how much he is an ordinary person, and not a mythical hero rushing into any scrape without thinking about the consequences. Thank for the video !
I think Rudy is a bit older than you were guessing here, I think he's like 11~12ish cuffenfly iirc, since he got his staff from Eris for his 10th birthday I'm pretty sure, and then the big teleportafiom thing happened after that, and then they were traveling through the demon continent for I'm pretty sure like a year or something.
I haven't seen anyone mention this yet but last Ep the Beastman said "you'll suffer the worst punishment the Beastpeople can offer" Which is to be strip naked and being tossed water (or filthy water). For a Beastmen, specially the ones who caughy Rudeus, being tossed water is humiliating asf
This episode raises the question - Is Eris's family involved in child slavery? Anime only info that is a case for the innocence of Eris's family with regard to child slavery: In cour one, while at Eris's home we saw no beast children. Ghislaine is not enslaved, she gets 2 gold a month. The beastpeople seem content and friendly towards Rudy. When Rudeous asks about the beast god language, Eris's father praises its use in hiring beastpersons. No special language would be needed to buy a beastchild bed slave. When Rudy stumbles upon Grandpa horny, he is with a full grown beastperson maid. It is scummy for the employer to sleep with employees, but that is a far cry from child slavery. The maid had an unhappy look when she was discovered - Most women would have an unhappy face for the perv boy that is spying on her coitus. Number one case for the innocence of the Boreas Greyrats: Ghislaine deDoldia, the Sword King would not calmly work for anyone that abused her people. With her beastperson sense of smell, there is no way they could keep that kind of behavior secret from her. Rudy wondering about who the twisted nobles are is not confirmation of his own fears.
North god style is a style for rouges imo from how its described and shown. I dont think Rudy would have won if he went toe to toe with him with swords because Eris is better than Rudy with swords but is much more straightforward fighter than Gallus. The fight was well done. I didnt expect them to end the episode the way they did and I read the LN lol.
