    Look at the gouache at 8:24 when it "spreads". Almost like it was alive

    I would love to see more like this. I am learning gouache, too...this is a great exercise to just dive in and use a new media without overthinking it and worrying about the final result.

    I love this idea and the sketchbook compilations. I have had a similar problem with the handbook sketchbook, but I wasn’t aware it took gouache relatively well, this video has inspired me to finish it.

    Love your talent and style and would love to see more. I’d really love a full length version of you painting a 30 minute portrait, just so I could hear about your color mixing and thought process. Thanks!

    This seems like the sort of thing that I should tackle, since I've been trying and failing to learn how to use gouache on my channel, and making quick portraits like this I think will help to force my art brain to make quick decisions without worrying too much.... It's part of why I really enjoy doing quick sketches of people and things out at the local diner, because the lack of pressure related to doing something that I know won't be perfect really works well to keep my mind and heart loose. I also usually use a hand•book when I do my quick diner doodles! They're among my favorites despite the fact that I KNOW they're not the 'highest quality.' There's just something about them that's super inviting and helps me just go for it! Completely relate so much to what you've been talking about here.

    You inspired me to try this!! I'm still getting used to using gouache, myself, and coming from primarily using watercolours, I'm having trouble NOT using them AS watercolours (which is nice, but I'd like to experiment with them more than that!). I've only done a couple faces, myself, but I can tell that this will help me! So thank you for the idea and the wonderful inspiration!!

    What a wonderful and inspiring idea! I love the time limitation thing, cause i think it really can force you to just concentrate on the most important things of a portrait which could really push the learning effect. I´ll defintley try this out. :) I also absolutely loved how your Gouache Portraits came out! So pretty

    That not blending part doesnt work to well for me using a shinhanpass hybrid gouache.. As i like the stroky look i might be better of adding white; but for most it is a water control thing wich took me several weeks to have that aha moment. So if you have any reference info on shinhanpass gouache,or any of the readers i would be delighted to get some advise as to how i get the hybrid gouache to be more a gouache,afterall; i have watercolors, i aimed for a gouache,lol

    • @myriamtillson
      @myriamtillson  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have never used that brand of gouache, how does it differ from regular gouache? From what I read it is basically more pigmented than other brands? I use Winsor and Newton gouache, that reactivates with water once dry too. I'd love to try the Shinhanpass !

    • @AafkeVultink
      @AafkeVultink 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it is more liquid than an average gouache, where as gouache is intende for that choppy look this can be seen as a semi watercolor where your vibrancy doesnt fade,though that comes with a lightfast issue; with regular gouache if you thin it down it fades in intensity,these hybrids dont but they lack some sort of extra filler that a normal gouache has. it is really weird to describe; there are two brands who retail right now as being a hybrid gouache; mijello white and shinhan pass. I am using the last one but since the product is fairly new the amount of info online is next to nothing, shinhan has lose tubes at jacksons,for about two euro per tube,figured for that price i would get me some,grin,jeah sort of an impulse,little did i know that there are only two brands of such,lol
