    Very well done! Makes me want to be come. It's the most informative and inviting presentation of Otavalo I've seen to date.
    Between the description of how to eat the churros, getting some on your shirt, and showing the consistency of el jugo de sábila, I felt a little tingly.
    Appreciate how comfortable you come across. Nice and pleasant. Cheers!

      Thank you so much, that means a lot to me. I really didn't want to create another market video. Yes of course it's an experience people should have but there's more to Otavalo.

    My friend and I are going to Otavalo eventually and hope my husband comes too.
    Otavalo has been a place I have wanted to see for a long time and seeing some of what you had to experience makes the journey look like about a 3 nighter. So many places I want to go to.

    • @ayngelina
      @ayngelina  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could do Cotacachi and Otavalo, they are not far and for me had the most difficult to find food. Otavalo is pretty cheap for accommodation. We stayed in a hotel for $20/night. The place is packed on Saturdays but then really clears out so you can do the market and check out the area without it being so chaotic.

    The food seemed very interesting, and appealing--except for the fried blood (could I get it without the blood?)--nothing personal since I feel the same way about Polish blood sausage, or blood in soup.

    • @ayngelina

      Of course everyone has their own preferences. Regular chaulafan doesn't have the coagulated blood so you could try that version.

Seriously though I commend you for eating the bugs, I know culture's all over the world do, it but your a lot braver than me. Lol Thai people make soup with the blood, don't ask the name I never remember any non english dish name. So that wouldn't bother me. Damn I rambled. Lol great video.

    • @ayngelina

      Everything was awesome, I promise you! Coagulated blood sounds weird but honestly most people probably eat it in the dish and just think it's sausage because it has the flavour and texture of meat.

    Jugo de sábila is also good for your candida. Do use it and cut out sugar and simple carbs until that white coating of your tongue disappears. Also, your digestion profits from chewing your food thoroughly.

    • @ayngelina

      They are raw but snails have pretty much the same consistency either way. And the taste was light and bright with the lime. That said, a bit more of a pain to eat. I preferred the beetles, which were crunchy and easy to eat, almost like cheesies.

      They are from the mountains overlooking Otavalo. Honestly Jayne of all the crazy things I have eaten in my life these were EASY. They taste garlick-y and are crisp. If you didn't look at them you'd think they were a cheesy like thing and you'd love them. I'd absolutely recommend them. The churos require a bit more effort and so I'd wait on that one.

    Ayngelina ... You were right! I bought a bag of frozen wild caught Pacific Cod. I thawed it correctly, blotted it with paper towel. Then I breaded it with just flour, salt, and black pepper. We haven't yet had the pleasure of going to Otavalo, however your virtual experience was well done, and warmly received.
    Kudos to you and Andrés both for being brave enough to try the critters. Speaking of Andrés, does he typically advise folks on his
    tours to comfortably consume ají without any concern of illness? I think you mentioned some of them being acid or vinegar based.
    I imagine these would be less bacterial breeding grounds. We've only been sick once in our travels, and know exactly what it was. It wasn't ají,
    however since it's typically open and on tables to share, we didn't want to chance it. We will return to Ecuador, and we'd
    like to feel more confident about our ability to enjoy the aji. Do you and Andrés have any tips for Ají Safety in Ecuador?

    • @ayngelina
      @ayngelina  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So a lot of tour guides take people to "safer" places that are tourist friendly but to be honest I find they are the worst spots. I just asked him about aji (we're in Quilotoa shooting a video) and he said if you can trust a restaurant to eat in it then you know their aji is also good because if a restaurant is full of Ecuadorians it also must have good aji. This is why we mostly go to huecas, we know that they are busy and the turnover of food ...and aji...is daily. And it's a big reason why I don't get sick.
