This video was so stylistically ahead of it's time, it's hard to believe it came out in 1993. Her ability to evolve and expand artistically is unparalleled. I'm honestly not even a big Madonna fan, don't listen to her music often, but everyone ought to respect this woman's body of work. The world will never see a career this brilliant again.
I remember when it came out, saying it was "ahead of its time" is sooo overrated. The video was fantastic but Madonna was already known for pushing the envelope, Mark Romanek had already been making good videos for a while, that's the same year when he shot Lenny Kravitz's "Are you gonna go my way" so no, it was not ahead of Mark or Madonna's time.
My "little sister" was killed in a car accident on March 12, 1993. She idolized Madonna, and this song was released later that year. I miss her more than anything.... She is the rain, and I look forward to it raining each day. 27 years today, and counting, I have been missing, and loving you.❤😥 RIP Renee' Lynn Stuart.

With "You'll see, "Take a bow", and "Live to tell", "Rain" complete a perfection circle. She shows all the Valor of her voice, which is perfect, beyond this world, and further. Her voice is perfect, can perform everything so, combined with Madonna's beauty and her most beautiful blue eyes of the world, make her the Queen. "Rain" is a masterpiece song!

It was rumoured that Madonna was at "zero percent body fat" when she shot this...with none other than the genius Mark Romanek (ILYSM). Entirely filmed in black and white, each frame is handpainted, hence the vivid blue that comes off as warm and cool at the same time. Ryuichi Sakamoto plays the director, and the minimalist Zen Japanese mood contrasts ever so beautifully with the industrial studio setting. Also, the electronica is simmering in this, boding so ever her revolution when "Ray of Light" came in. Masterclass, masterpiece. One of Madonna's finest!!!
The whole thing is art. I would not consider myself to be a pure Madonna fan in entirety, if we were to incorporate viewpoints, but I admire certain aspects of her which she has used to her advantage throughout her whole career. She was the first "shock artist queen" to the mainstream media and then she became a humanitarian. I support her humanitarian views and actions but not necessary her political viewpoints or methods. Despite all of that, Madonna is a highly intelligent woman who should never be underestimated.

I’ll never forget the exact moment I saw this while eating my Coco Pops on a cold, wintry day at 11 years old. My surroundings were etched into my mind like time froze. The TV, fireplace, mantle... I can see everything so clearly as soon as I hear this song. I recall being blown away by the seamless marriage of lighting, production, music and lyrics. It was so far ahead of its time. Madonna left a similar impression on me when she released Frozen, which to me is a much darker version of Rain.
That frozen is true! I never watched the MV or i was too young to recall it, but when I heard the tune of frozen and take a bow, man my memories are awakened!!! Such a nostalgic feel ❤️

Who wrote some of the biggest hit singles for the Carpenters in the 1970's.. The way Madonna sings Crazy For You.. you can almost hear her invoking the spirit of the late Karen Carpenter.

I'm with the platinum blond, "Express Yourself" look/styling, and to me, "Take a Bow" is her loveliest ballad.
The 90's saw her making some of the best music videos of her career. This one is one of the highlights, the other one directed by Romanek, 'Bedtime Story" being a masterpiece on all levels. And... 'Rain' features my other musical hero, Ryuichi Sakamoto, as the director!!!! A pity those two never collaborated on something musically.

I’ll never forget the exact moment I saw this while eating my Coco Pops on a cold, wintry day at 11 years old. My surroundings were etched into my mind like time froze. The TV, fireplace, mantle... I can see everything so clearly as soon as I hear this song. I recall being blown away by the seamless marriage of lighting, production, music and lyrics. It was so far ahead of its time.
Madonna left a similar impression on me when she released Frozen, which to me is a much darker version of Rain.
That frozen is true! I never watched the MV or i was too young to recall it, but when I heard the tune of frozen and take a bow, man my memories are awakened!!! Such a nostalgic feel ❤️

Agreed.. Live to Tell, This Used To Be My Playground.. but for me her first try at singing a ballad stands out.. "Crazy For You" the lyrics to that song were written by John Bettis.. Who wrote some of the biggest hit singles for the Carpenters in the 1970's.. The way Madonna sings Crazy For You.. you can almost hear her invoking the spirit of the late Karen Carpenter.
