Due to being diagnosed with Distal Muscular Atrophy and losing my job due to COVID related issues I retired at 61 years of age. I am on a fixed income so I cannot afford to send you any “gifts” but I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated your TH-cam videos! I have gone back to my roots and started building farmhouse furniture (I actually sold a quilt ladder and a craft table). I do all my work in a 12’x 12’ uninsulated shed. Keep up the good work.

Great video Matt! Many woodworkers need to HEAR this type of advice. I grew a small Graphic Arts company to over $1M in sales by using these principals alone. The most important of your steps is "Ask For The Sale"!
#6 is probably the most critical. On the rare occasions I did not get payment up front 99% of the time I got screwed. I take 100% up front always from now on, and sometimes I'll take 50% from a reputable business. And friends and family are absolutely the worst about taking advantage

Thanks Matt. I have been putting off getting started with my own business. I've watched ur vids for maybe over a year now and this made me make up my mind. You finally pushed me hard enough buddy. Thanks.

I will say after 40 some years of being a Craftsman in a carpenter nothing better I would like to do at 64 years old is to build in my shop only. And I think it's going to come to that at some point. But right now up here in northern Michigan there are not enough Craftsman or Carpenters to do the work that needs to be done. So much work that I have actually pulled my business card from boards at gas stations laundromats grocery stores because I just can't keep up with the calls. That being said your advice is sound! Keep up the good work!
Thank you Matt for sharing this knowledge. The only thing I am missing is a shop/garage to work out of. Right now I work out of a 10' x 10' tarp shed. Looking to find a shop to rent for now.
You've been such an inspiration for me since I found your channel so thank you very much for your hard work. And I hope you continue to find greater and greater success.
I had a business plan but that changed a couple times in the past 6 months as I adapted to the local markets. I started out selling live edge slabs and lumber. But found that 2x4s and 2x6s are not a profitable use of my time here so I am moving to outdoor furniture and planning to sell live edge furniture soon. My main source of income, my main YT channel since 2007, was cut. Cannot figure that out but YT cut my pay from thousands to a couple hundred over a short period. So I jumped off the cliff on this business all the way. Did not have an option here. In Michigan an LLC separates your personal property from the company in case of lawsuit. Its easy and cheap to get and maintain.

Thank you. Been working hard to get better.
Thanks so much for all your helpful videos!
After about 6 months of experimenting, I think I’ve found my woodworking niche!
This year I’m planning to start making + selling the world’s most detailed custom end-grain cutting boards, based off of ANY photo, and will be uploading TH-cam videos showing the process!
I’m working on a web app that will allow anyone to turn their photos into wood designs, so they can see what it will look like BEFORE placing their order!
Thank you!
