  • Short detailed video on how to perform a engine compression test on a TDI Engine. In this case a VW TDI Common Rail engine.
This is done in my own home garage and can be performed by anyone with the right tools.
Tools you would need for this TDI Compression test would be :
    - Wrench with 10mm and 12mm head (long ones)
    - TDI Compression test tool kit ( Bought here www.ebay.com/it... )
    - Two hands and some patience.
This is a 2.0 Common Rail CFFB but the procedure is the same for the 1.6 engines and all other TDI engines, even the PD engines. On the PD engines would be a bit more hard to get at the glow plug on piston 4 but with a bit of patience should be no problem.
    Thanks for watching.

Nice job pal! I think the other probes you showed in the kit are meant for compression testing through the injector port maybe for older diesel engines. Take care

Can be for other engines also, I only checked the ones that could fit the engine in cause. Thanks for watching.

I need a diesel compression tester... that kit looks good! I like the gopro video format / POV (similar to my video glasses) where we can see what you see. =)

I have 19 bar on 3 and 17 bar on 1 cylinder. The car starts really good despite the low compression rate. In the cold mornings I have a rough idle for 20 seconds after I start the car, and the car does a nose dive at 3000RPM in almost every gear. Should I look for another engine ? Thanks. 7:48 - you have to align the threads, not the bolt part, so the longer one should be ok too, because i really doubt that there is a hole inside the piston to let the glow plug tip move throught it on every stroke lol

You are 100% right LOL :) me being to paranoid and not thinking straight :)) Well done :))

    Well done
Im looking at a 2012 amarok with issues.
1 other thing u could test is the glow plugs as sometimes even new glowplugs can be faulty.
Set of jumper leads an see if the very end tip of the glowplug glows.
If they glow along the rod at all other than the tip there buggered.

Cylinder leakage test afterwards to confirm where the air is going.

Great video, excellent explanation. I have ordered a compression kit and will test mine to see if compression is good before spending money on injectors. Thank you so much. I watched your DSG mechatronic repair video a few years ago and it helped me fix my problem. I forgot to subscribe and just found you again now and subscribed so I don't miss out on your expertise. Thank you again!!

Compression was all ok. It seemed that my engine did not like cold weather and the diesel I was using was not the best quality.

What about injecktors? Are they connected or unpluged during test...
    Thanks.

Injectors stay in place , just disconnected wires so they don't open.

Which engine is 2.0 or 1.6 and which code of the engine ?

GigiBelea how many errors after this test ? I think the 1.6 are piezo injectors so if you disconnect them they will stay open ?

    • @GigiBeleaDK
      @GigiBeleaDK  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

1.6 same type injectors. Common Rail is Common rail :)
You will have 5 errors stored on the ECU but car will start and run just fine without any dash lights or anything.
If an injector fails, for example, if the fail disappears, the ecu will just store it but it will not show it on display again. The only errors that will still display on the dash are the Airbag errors , even if airbag is ok again. Airbag errors must be cleared with a tester.

    Bit of a old video.
You should electrical test the flow plugs. Then test the injectors for resistance and then check the loom wires.
    If it's not that....
    I would say blocked exsaust.
Or how pump is possibly broken.
As someone else said check timing.

  • @macolaiden

Hi, what was the problem? HEAD, GASKET OR? Did you have to disconnect the pump fuse during the test?

    • @GigiBeleaDK
      @GigiBeleaDK  4 ปีที่แล้ว

No problem was detected. You must disconnect just injector wiring.
