I saw the national tour of Matilda and I remember being SO jealous of those kids bc they were my age and getting to do what I love all over the country
@@merete2895 So basically, in June 2019 I contracted Whooping Cough (yea, the disease u get vaccinated for) but I wasn’t diagnosed until after the three week period where you can get cured by medication. This meant that I had to just wait for it to go away which took 6 moths. With Whooping Cough, you have uncontrollable coughing fits and I had to teach myself how to breathe in between them so I didn’t SUFFOCATE. The thing is, I was teaching myself how to breathe with my chest and the top of my respiratory system, which is not meant for all of that pressure. This meant that my breath was getting fatigued which triggered my vocal chords to close when breathing in instead of opening (vocal chord dysfunction). You should see a speech pathologist to retrain your breath, mine was very helpful.

He was basically in a play at my uncle's theatre that my mom and dad did sets for so I was there all the time and I always hung out with the actors backstage. Then like 7 years later someone in that same play did a throwback post with him in it and someone commented on the post saying "YOU KNEW JOSHUA COLLEY" or something along those lines. So me being curious looked him up and realized, oh he's kinda famous and I knew him...

(May 2021) Btw I’m 13 now Edit 2: I'll be doing a musical theatre intensive this summer (2021) I can't wait :D Edit 3: unfortunately had to quit dance due to stress but in fall 2021 I was an important lead in my first musical, currently i’m playing the role i auditioned for in a class play and in a couple weeks i’ll receive the cast list for another play (january 2022) 💗 i’ve come to terms with the fact that i won’t be on broadway as a teen but i’m never going to stop working and i know i’ll make it at some point, but i’ll keep editing this for fun to let y’all know how things are going! tbh i think this is gonna be my last edit. it’s august 2nd 2022 and i’m 14 years old. i still do theatre, i got the lead in the spring play a few months back, but i’ve directed my dreams more toward music! theatre is always gonna be a huge part of my life but i realized making it to broadway isn’t really for me. i want to make music and share it with the world, and i don’t think broadway is the way to do that! im gonna be doing theatre for fun now and focusing on music :)) thanks for following along with my journey/self discovery haha

Reminders to people who are feeling sad and discouraged! 1. These kids are the best of the best of the best. The best of the best don't even get cast on Broadway as children because there aren't all that many roles for children on Broadway. Everyone is worse than them, so if you're feeling bad about comparing yourself to them, its because there is barely anyone in the world who would feel good when comparing themselves to these kids. 2. You will always have a chance to perform. Broadway is not the only theater there is. You can have incredibly rewarding experiences as an actor without getting anywhere near New York and without going professional. 3. You will have a chance to work in theater. Not necessarily as an actor, and there are many other ways to get involved. The theater world is about connections, so if you put effort into making connections, you will probably be able to find a job in theater somewhere. Of course different factors play into that for every person and I don't want to disregard the fact that every person has different situations financially, locationally, etc. and that it is a lot harder for some people than it is for others to make connections and enter the theater world. I know I would have felt devastated watching this video when I was 12-15ish, especially because I wasn't even pursuing acting or singing and felt like I was losing my only way to continue with theater past high school stage crew, which I only enjoyed because it was a way to be involved in theater. I really (like really) tried to stop myself from pursuing theater professionally until halfway through my first semester in college. I'm now studying theater and am working towards becoming a stage director, which has its own huge set of obstacles that I have yet to overcome, but before I was a senior in high school I didn't think directing was even an option for me. So if you're someone who wants to be involved in theater and thinks acting is the only way to do so, remember there are hundreds of ways to be professionally involved in theater, and that only one of those is acting. I guess this turned into somewhat of a message-to-younger-me post, but I hope that if you're having experiences similar to the ones I had in middle and high school, you'll feel a little better after reading this
