    First lower your lights and change once a week your water 30% / 40% and get some fast growing plants, add every day plant nutrition and with the snails and some other algae eaters like Amano shrimps and Siamese algae eaters your problems will disappear and use seachem Purigen in your filter! Good luck

    Hi, CO2 and Phosphates might be a issue for algae and slow to none stem plants growth. You should try supplementing your tank with additional CO2.

    • @rvscape
      @rvscape  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! This makes sense, I have considered adding CO2 to the system, I've just been intimidated by it. Also afraid of what the cost might be on a 350 gallon tank to run CO2.

    • @henrymcdoo
      @henrymcdoo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rvscape You are welcome and you are right :) . CO2 systems may be quite expensive. But there are a plenty of homemade DIY ways to make it. Some people use sugar and baking yeast but I would recommend more Sodium-Bi-Carbonate and Citric acid.
      PROS: Very cheap, easy to make
      CONS: Hard to make correct dosage, one dose doesn't last log 4-5 days or more depending on size of containers.

      If you don't add dissolving calcium like crushed coral into your CO2 tank to raise KH and GH, it will cause all your snail's shells to dissolve eventually killing them. I even lost ramshorns to CO2. Plants loved it, not the snails.

    To get rid of the algae on the stem plants you could get hill steam loach or siamese algae eater or otocinclus

    • @rvscape
      @rvscape  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the suggestions! Do you think the otocinclus and hillstream loaches would be big enough to get along with the severum?

    • @dramaticexperiment144
      @dramaticexperiment144 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rvscape probably not because if they can fit in the severums mouth the severum will try to eat them, so probably try the siamese algae eater or rainbow shark or redtail shark. I have a rainbow shark and it keeps my plants clean

    Amano shrimp will eat algae. I heard they can coexist with cichlids, but they need enough space. They wont breed in your tank so you may have to buy in bulk like you did for the nerites.

    • @rvscape
      @rvscape  3 ปีที่แล้ว
