Tim Weah made a horrible mistake, that red card call was easy. Outside of the only 2 red card calls this referee was absolutely horrendous, he lost control of the game in the final 10-15 minutes. Panama was happy to take yellow cards in order to nuetralize the US attack. Send this ref home.
The ref lost control fully as soon as he let the hit on Matt Turner go for nothing. The red on Weah was felt like straight retaliation for that no call, and then the ref makes the easy call to send him off, then misses a clear pk, and like you already mentioned, Panama were HAPPY to take cards in the dying minutes of the game to secure a win or draw.
_"Panama was happy to take yellow cards in order to nuetralize the US attack."_ Those are called tactical fouls, they're meant to stop a fast break, prevent a goal scoring opportunity, and allow the defence to recoup. They're understood to be part of the game. It's the equivalent of fouling in the last two minutes of basketball.
100% Weah's fault and he should own up to it. Absolute absurdity that he decided that, that was what he needed to do. The ref was terrible too, but this honestly has to fall on Weah. We had an incredible opportunity to ensure our place in the knockouts and he does THAT?? Its so unreal.
@@Xiuhcoatl_ Cant blame anyone but Weah for his decision, but the game was not over after we went to 10 men. Greg screwed up the tactics and subs for the last 65 minutes. The team obviously doesn't fear Greg. They like him as a friend. Greg holds nobody accountable, we're seeing it.
So wait they had no chance after the red card? I remember them going up 1-0 and giving up that lead in like 5 seconds. Panama is a country of like 4.3 million. USA soccer is a joke. Should beat this team 10/10 times down a man.
Population has nothing to do with how a country performs. Panama has a bigger population than Uruguay so shouldn’t they have won the game according to your argument?
@@Chudsic You are cringe. The US side is VASTLY more talented than the Panama side today. It's nothing short of embarrassing from the American players, due to that reason. Forget talking about population, it's the objective truth.
US Soccer rots from the top down. It’s going to be ground hogs day yet again. Sure you can blame Tim Weah for the red card but it’s not his fault this team has no character and Greg Berhalter is tactically inept.
Once again, Greg didn’t have the team mentally ready to play. Ridiculous that a U.S. team was caught off-guard by CONCACAF tactics… at this day and age…
The red card didn't decide the game. The opponsnet was Panama, not Uruguay. Gregg made no immediate adjustsments to the red. The adjustments he eventually made were poor.
totally agree with you about Berhalter's subs and timing, but Weah's idiocy changed the game. the current USA team can't deal with that type of stress when the events force them to change tactics. they aren't good enough. if Weah doesn't get sent off, it's an easier adjustment for Berhalter.
@@Anime4Life35USA won with ten men in the Copa America in 2016, our coach made the right adjustments - Weah needs to be held accountable but this is the second time we have failed to adjust to this exact situation. And with this being the third tournament that we have had players sent off, it begs the question what is wrong with this locker room? And leadership absolutely comes into play with that.
OP, the foul on Turner was a straight red. The ref lost control of the game at that moment. But Weah, I just don't know what to say...he has to keep his composure. The only thing I could ever accept as justification for throwing a punch is when you are truly, truly trying to defend a teammate, and even then, it would have to be something that was really dangerous like someone is holding their hands behind their back while their teammate punches them in the face (ask Charles Barkley about that, LOL). I'm bummed. I have been looking forward to watching this game for days now. And we had the entire experience taken away from us by a moment of stupidity. The moment it happened, I knew I's have to sit there and watch bunkering in, which is worse than watching paint dry. I wanted to watch the horses run. Instead, I got to watch an hour plus of ridiculousness. Weah really let us all down.
The beauty in this is jesse marsch is coaching Canada who play like an actual team. He probably could of been coach of the usmnt if they fired berhalter way before this tournament. Now im rooting for an american whos coaching canada wonderful.
Panama had 76% possession because Berhalter added an extra CB in CCV which gutted the midfield. Instead he should have left in Reyna and subbed out Mckennie for Musah whose rangier and good in dribbling the ball out of trouble.
Panama is dangerous. They are weak in the world, but they KNOW exactly how to beat USA! In this game, their play of getting USA to win a red card played out perfectly! Once again they outwitted us in a major tournament.
Panama looked really good against Uruguay in the second half. Yes, Uruguay had plenty of chances in the first half but in the second half Panama pretty much controlled most of the game creating clear cut chances. The USMNT should have taken this game way more seriously instead of approaching it as if the game was a sure win and a fore gone conclusion.
Greg should be out no question imo... but wow... tim weah i love your game but thats an absolute HORRIBLE red card to get. One of the dumbest things i have ever seen on the pitch.
I watch Zidane live when he headbutted Materazzi in the world cup final. There is worse, but it was a horrible decision by Tim in that moment. He should be fined by US soccer federation and multigame suspension from international play.
@abel25206 I'd have to disagree. As a player, the ref is correct. A blatant retort and strike to the head (not a hard one most likely but still) is more than enough. Just retaliation can be a red. A headshot makes it even worse.
with the benefit of hindsight... assuming he was healthy enough he probably should have played 90 minutes in both games. He has been growing into this tournament, literally playing better and better each minute he has been on the pitch.
Are you serious? For what ??? The players lost it not the manager , you silly Americans think it’s the coaches fault for having an injury prone starting goalie and a boneheaded kid getting a red under 20min?
That stupidity has cost USA the classification being local, because Uruguay is top 2 on this tournament. That is a player where you need to buy him a plane ticket and say: "never come back".
This is the worst group of goalkeepers that we've had for 30 years. I would take David Vanole over these guys. The USA has always depended on top class goalkeepers and we just don't have it anymore.
Why do Americans believe that, The USA should beat Panama with 10 players??😂😂. I mean come on. Is the USA, Not Argentina, Not Brazil, No Germany, France, No Spain, Is the United States of America. You're nobody in football. 11 vs 11 Panama compete against USA.
People like you will make fun of americans who overrate their national team but here you are massively overrating the US national team. We are not in a class where we go down to 10 men in the 20th minute and we're still 100% expected to draw a team like panama. Germany, Spain, Uruguay, Argentina, sure, but not a team at the level of the US. A red that early against anything but very poor opponents is going to completely change the game.
@@brando7266 Yet their bench is still superior to the US. Even with their bench out on the field, they’re gonna want to prove themselves for their coach. USA is toast
Funny to read all the Conmebol comments about how superior they are..... Brazil Argentina and Uruguay havent exactly been setting the world on fire lol I remember several embarrassments that Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina faced in recent tournaments. South Americans feel superior until they go to Europe. There they learn who their real daddies are. lol.
Also, Panama played their hearts to win. A team thats been in the game for maybe 15 years. The US loosing Weah was a game changer but it was also an opportunity to show who they are.
November 27, 2023, seven games ago, Sergino Dest lost his mental composure costing USMNT a loss vs Trinidad and Tobago. Tim Weah's red card cost the USMNT the game and possibly degrouped us out of Copa America. Since that time USMNT Gregg Berhalter's record is 3 wins, 4 losses, and 1 tie. The question we need to ask ourselves as fans are whether we are better off last year with Gregg Berhalter?
People forget that the US was 2 players down to red cards during the 2006 World Cup match against Italy, and still tied them. No reason why this USMNT can be only 1 player down and still can’t draw or beat Panama
The red card was a massive mistake. But then you make the changes you make at HT and invite Panamá to attack you for more than 45mins. The you double down by subbing out your best striker and a player that gives you pace and danger on the counter for a player who barely plays for his club and is unsuitable to play counter attacking football. Yes, Weah is at fault for making a stupid act. But let's not kid ourselves, this coach threw the towel and played for a draw. If you say you're the "giant" of CONCACAF, and you say you have better players than everyone else, there's no reason for you to drop back ultra defensive and invite pressure and hope for a draw. Mediocre coach, overrated players. And where was our "American Messi"? No accountability, no pressure, no shame. The USMNT coach and players are coddled and nothing will come out of this. And here I was bashing Mexico yesterday, we might be in just a bad position.
The way they wouldve made light of panama if the us won u wouldve think us had enough quality to hold on to the match being a man down lol … reality comes fast in these games… football is always on the day and u not as big of a favorite as u think u are you
No! It wasn't decided by the red card. It was affected by the red card. There's a difference. A team getting an early red puts themselves in a tough position, but it doesn't guarantee the result. Why are they trashing Robinson? Adams and VCV screw ups were much worse.
This is the dumbest question put on the screen: "Did Gregg get the starting 11 right?" Who cares about the starting 11! The real question is did he adjust and put forth the right tactical changes after going a man down? And the answer is NO! But this is nothing new to anybody! If anything, he continuisly makes decisions in games that hinder the national team's chances to get results! His firing is LONG overdue and he shouldn't have been re-hired in the first place!
With the player you have and the amount of money invested into this project you could have 9 players and still should win that game. Don't make excuses for the US and don't take merit away from Panama.
Yea dude. Uruguay is legendary right now. Only World Class teams like Colombia and Argentina and some European teams can take them on. USA has no hope. They would need to sacrifice a Goat and do some voodoo rituals to hope for a draw!
I don't see any scenario in which USMNT beats Uruguay. Not only because of the talent disparity, but also Berhalter is no match for Bielsa ball. He will be out coached.
If I hadn't seen USA vs Colombia, I would say they have a chance. But I saw that game. And know Colombia competes with Uruguay! I know Uruguay competes with Argentina! And your telling me USA can tie against Uruguay? Tim Weah made a horrible mistake, that red card call was easy. Outside of the only 2 red card calls this referee was absolutely horrendous, he lost control of the game in the final 10-15 minutes. Panama was happy to take yellow cards in order to nuetralize the US attack. Send this ref home.
Retire him it's not the first time he's lost control in a CONCACAF game 2023 Nations League Semifinal 4 red card game was him as well
The ref lost control fully as soon as he let the hit on Matt Turner go for nothing. The red on Weah was felt like straight retaliation for that no call, and then the ref makes the easy call to send him off, then misses a clear pk, and like you already mentioned, Panama were HAPPY to take cards in the dying minutes of the game to secure a win or draw.
They got a red and the other tackles after weren’t worthy of a red this isn’t the nba . There’s tactics fouls in this game for a reason
_"Panama was happy to take yellow cards in order to nuetralize the US attack."_
Those are called tactical fouls, they're meant to stop a fast break, prevent a goal scoring opportunity, and allow the defence to recoup. They're understood to be part of the game.
It's the equivalent of fouling in the last two minutes of basketball.
He lost control of the match in the first half. Or, seen another way, he did what he set out to do.

So wait they had no chance after the red card? I remember them going up 1-0 and giving up that lead in like 5 seconds. Panama is a country of like 4.3 million. USA soccer is a joke. Should beat this team 10/10 times down a man.
Costa rica siempre les gana y tiene 6 millones de personas u moroon
Population has nothing to do with how a country performs. Panama has a bigger population than Uruguay so shouldn’t they have won the game according to your argument?

@@Chudsic You are cringe. The US side is VASTLY more talented than the Panama side today. It's nothing short of embarrassing from the American players, due to that reason. Forget talking about population, it's the objective truth.
By your logic Uruguay should not be as good as they are bc they are a nation of about 3million people🤦♂️.
US Soccer rots from the top down. It’s going to be ground hogs day yet again. Sure you can blame Tim Weah for the red card but it’s not his fault this team has no character and Greg Berhalter is tactically inept.
The US are better off going out
they are better off not competing outside concacaf. They dont know their own mediocrity
The adjustments he eventually made were poor.
totally agree with you about Berhalter's subs and timing, but Weah's idiocy changed the game. the current USA team can't deal with that type of stress when the events force them to change tactics. they aren't good enough. if Weah doesn't get sent off, it's an easier adjustment for Berhalter.
yes it did stop it. You'd be a fool if you think 10 v 11 is not a massive advantage
@abel25206 I'd have to disagree. As a player, the ref is correct. A blatant retort and strike to the head (not a hard one most likely but still) is more than enough. Just retaliation can be a red. A headshot makes it even worse.
