Some things to note: 1. The blues are different people to the reds, which is why the characters are so serious. 2. The entire red team are dead, apart from the Demoman, Sniper and Scout. A few are revived as Jaunts, after a respawn machine glitch. 3. the reason the medic is invincible is because the briefcase has the core of the respawn machine in it, and since the future medic (plague doctor guy) has it, Medic is invincible.

This has to be the weirdest Kill Count of all time. I never expected James to even know about TF2, let alone make a whole episode related to it. I love how he actually knows what he's talking about, and he explains the game for people who might not be familiar with it.
It was a masterpiece of an SFM, never seen anything like it. You and your team are incredibly talented and created what can only be described as the perfect way to make a horror film.
Emesis Blue is one of those rare films that manages to perfectly capture what I'd call "nightmare logic." Nothing occurs in a straight line, and yet as the excellent pacing pulls you in it all begins to make this horrible facsimile of sense. Take the roulette scene, for example. Neither Soldier nor Medic have any reason to go along with Spy's demands when he hands over the gun, and yet they both do so without question. In a world that made sense, it would be illogical. In the nightmare, it is _inevitable._
If you want more Nightmare Logic movies, check out Salvador Dali's 1929 short film "Un Chien Andalou", Orson Welles' 1962 film "The Trial" based on Franz Kafka's novel, and the 2015 Japanese film "Tag". Like Emesis Blue, all three are similarly dark, difficult, and unnerving.
"its the voice of god you son of a bitch!" the most tf2 soldier line I've ever heard and he's never uttered those words in that exact order ONCE. they nailed the tf2 merc's personalities with this film.
Not so fun fact about Source Filmmaker: It's known for being _very_ buggy and prone to a multitude of errors and crashes. For example: Loading in too many models in one "play time" can cause the program's memory to skyrocket, which'll send your forehead or fist slamming down to your keyboard/desk. It also hasn't gotten a proper update since 2015 and is still in it's, I suppose, forever beta phase. So the fact that it took _five years_ to come out as amazing as it did shows the true dedication of Chad Payne and his crew. That's something you gotta respect, even if you're not all that big on Team Fortress 2.
If you notice when Ludwig shoots Jacques, he does so twice as a callback to something Jeremy said to him earlier in the movie during the ride back home, "whatever they do to you, hit 'em back twice as hard!" Jacques was responsible for medic shooting himself once, so he paid him back with two shots of his own.
Another neat little detail is Soldier mentions being the Voice of God when answering the phone in Medic's office. Then, when Medic is making his getaway, Soldier stumbles upon Blutarch Mann asking God to help him, only for Soldier to shoot him.
Something that is nice to the detail is that in 9:51 where scout look towards his mom you can see the chess board, and on that chess board a blue pawn is surrounded by red higher ranking pieces. You'll notice alot of the time, even during medic getting a concussion his eyes are turning red and blue, and after that its a mix of both.
11:35 I think it’s a real skeleton. In _Meet the Medic,_ Medic tells Heavy that he once stole a patient’s skeleton, which resulted in his medical license being revoked.
Damn you Emesis Blue!!!!! Just wait for our next film "Dude Bro Party Massacre 9: Bros in Space!" That kill count will be out of this world! But seriously, congratulations ;)
To summarize "The Jaunt" for people who don't like reading, teleportation machines are used to instantly transport people and products between Mars and Earth in a process called the jaunt. Living beings have to be unconscious, otherwise their minds can't handle the eternal void between the teleporters and they go insane. The main character takes his whole family for a jaunt and one of the members doesn't take the knockout gas.
To be a bit more clear, the "eternal void" here and why they go insane is because while the teleportation, physically, is instant, the mind (if awake) instead perceives it as an incredibly, incredibly, absurd amount of time. I don't remember the exact details, but the dad of the family talks to the son about the theorized length of time the mind is isolated during the trip, billions or possibly trillions of years. The son is the one who doesn't get knocked out, and when coming to on the other side, has gone completely insane, screaming at his dad that it was longer than he thought, before dropping dead. Real good story. Readily available online, and pretty short, if anyone wants to read it themselves.
Oooohhh, I knew that name sounded familiar. It was the inspiration for a set piece in a video game I love where passengers rides a train that can instantly warp you to any location in just seconds but in reality they are stuck there for thousands or millions of years until they are restored to a state before they boarded the train or they can be put to sleep like in The Jaunt so that they are spared in the horrors of waiting a very long time which can lead to so many scary things like insanity.
What makes Emesis Blue so impressive to me is how it proves one of the longest standing concepts with TF2 and it's world, characters and ideas. It's such a universal game, and the fact you can turn such an inherently silly game, which by itself has a silly lore where an ultra buff Shakespeare (Shakespearicles) invented rocket jumping, into a horror film that's both creative and horrifying... it just defies belief. A timeless classic. God I hope this gets recognition at the Dead Meat Horror Awards, even though I fully respect that 2023 by itself is a stacked year for Horror.
Great summation of what exactly this is as a film. Some presentations are so silly that they FORCE you to suspend disbelief and pull the viewers directly into the crosshairs of entertainment. Kinda like pro wrestling, Deadpool films, or comedy on Broadway.
Can we all just appreciate for a second that this is the first time in 8 years of the Kill Count's existence that James covered an animated film? This takes heavy inspiration from other films too! Spy introducing themselves as “Detective Mannix & Lieutenant Columbo” Evil Dead when the Medic’s reflection grabbed himself When Zed died and said “I would’ve got you” after showing he only had a drill (Falling Down) The way the Red Medic turns to face Fritz is like the zombie reveal in Resident Evil The way Heavy says “Builders League” when chasing Fritz (Nemesis from Resident Evil) When Fritz reaches the respawn terminal it has (near) frame for frame shots when Hal, 2001 Space Odyssey, encountered the Monolith. The audio is also lifted from the movie too The war room Solider finds is the same setting in “Dr StrangeGlove” as well as it fading to black & white Multiple “The Shining” references: -Dell is a reference to Lloyd. -Demo-man’s corpse being found frozen. -The blood elevator scene. -Fritz encountering Archibald in the restroom. The Pyro is “Stock Slasher” character with some Jason references (Pyro revealing his face to Spy is similar to “F13th Part VIII: Jason takes Manhattan) Spy & Solider’s whole arc is similar to Pulp Fiction (chasing a mysterious briefcase with contents never revealed) Fritz emerging from Jule’s coffin while looking pale is similar to “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” (where Cesare kills people in his sleep) The red pit that Solider saw at Conagher Slaughterhouse is depicted very similar to how “Hell” is described in “The House That Built Jack” Another directly lifted scene, from “The Soprano’s”, when Demo-man says “Our true enemy has yet to reveal themselves” Fritz seeing the past version of his encounter with Scout is a reference to “Interstellar” Much more too! These are all I remember
I am in absolute shock that you covered Emesis Blue, I never even knew you were a huge TF2 fan! But 800,054 kills is insanely jaw-dropping and so happy to see Emesis Blue takes the spot for highest kill count on the channel!
Just when we thought James couldn’t widen his horizons any more than game kill counts, he found an incredible indie fan-film to document. Freaking awesome.
Its a theory that the respawn machine uses time reversal to heal and revive the mercs, and that whats in the briefcase is a respawn core, and thats why the medic healed after the engie killed him because the briefcase was nearby.
This is all extra impressive when you consider how awkward and incomprehensible SFM can be some times. It’s a very unique animation program that unfortunately hasn’t gotten any major updates to the engine since like 2012 and its code is filled to the brim with more spaghetti than an Italian chef’s resume There’s a behind the scenes video by the TH-camr LazyPurple chronicling the massive amount of errors and weird quirks that happened when just trying to work on a single simple scene, including maps not having all of their props in them, and having to animate Sentry muzzle flashes MANUALLY
This is honestly one of the most unexpected kill counts! Love that the work that the fanbase put into these videos is being recognised again for the first time in years
32:06 when I was watching this with my sister my sister pointed out that all the bodyguards are basically all Scouts just with either add an accessories or their proportions change so that's your fun fact of the day :)
I think james may have misses sniper say "you know how long i waited for this?" In his soldier chase segment, suggesting he did bleed out, spent eternity in limbo, and had a botched respawn.
There isn't really evidence for that, sniper still limps on the leg he was shot on. it's more probable that sniper was just a zombie but just remembered the time he spent respawning before any of the movie happened.
Pyro. Sniper after he respawned. The engineers in the bottom. And all the freaks are all working to make the respawn machine work again. The engineers are working on it to revive their brother. The red team to revive the read team and the alive ones to well. Not make them freaks anymore. I think that’s the way more plausible theory
Emesis Blue is such a strange [SFM].It feels as if you are being watched while watching it.Thanks for covering this Dead Meat team.Keep doing the good work.

The reason Dell was the bartender in Demo's hallucination/hell trip is because it's a reference to one of Fortress Film's earlier works. Dell was working out near Dustbowl, and by the end the entire war zone gets glassed, hence the other Conagher brothers worrying about Dell earlier on. Little bit of cinematic universe stuff.
I want to notice that in 33:56 Fritz Ludwig has that holes in eyes that you shown earlier in a video, so it basically confirms that he killed Scout's Mom

Seeing James cover Emesis Blue is candy for the eyes. Emesis Blue is an amazing piece of film and further proves that games can be made into movies if done with a great plot.
Not sure if somebody else already said this but a reason that the soldier and demo bonded well is due to how in the comics, red demo and blu soldier were friends before the war update when the administrator (basically jules archibald) gaslights both of them to hating each other, but some unused voice lines hinted that they were still friends after the war which might be the reason that soldier mourns his death.
I absolutely loved this little SFM psychological horror film to death, the voice acting was incredible and the film has SO MANY references and nods to other films and video games.

And here we have champion number 15. Emesis blue with 800054 kills.
18:00 Here's a fun fact about this interaction, the BLU Soldier and the RED Demoman were once depicted as friends in the 2009 comic "WAR!" that held the same name as the multi-class and content update of the game during this period. Their friendship ended up being shortened by The Administrator as she implies is a profound betrayal on her trust, thus turning them into enemies so they could fight one another. I really enjoy this inclusion and attention to detail, this makes me enjoy the project even more as I re-watch it.
14:39 I really wished you'd mentioned the detail of Zed laughing and saying "I woulda got you" when it's revealed the "pistol" he drew before getting shot was actually just a power-drill. The guy knew he was about to die and just wanted to see if his draw was faster.

Not only is this great for the fans as we get broader yet niché coverage, but the same goes for James and the team! "...in all our favorite horror media" does have a nice ring to it
i can't wait to see a theatrical film have kills close to that amount. although emesis blue having the length and scope of a theatrical film still makes it the perfect fit for the bill.

For people wandering, The Mayor present in the short is The Civilian class from Team Frotress Classic which had their model remade with TF2 graphics for a scrapped game mode but is present in the TF2 Classic game. His only weapon is his umbrella which does 8 damage so he shoul never be in a fight but the brella' puts a higher crit chance on the target for the rest of the team. He passively heals teammates in a very large area and provides 20% damage resistence. He can also be Übercharged meaning he got the implant from Medic. In lore is an paranoid Oil Baron named Orson W. Jenkins from England and he only loves money and his life. During his shady business practices, he does get more than a few enemies, which is why he hires the mercs for protection (just as in the animation). I think he gets a liking to them and helps them from time to time, but I'm not sure. He is voiced in the games by Benjamin "Benjamoose" Rudman.

I'd like to point out, BTW, that this film's story is connected to another film made by the same guy called "Spy's Disguise" and that film also has quite the kill count and also reveals some more backstory on that manfunctioning "Respawn Machine" in this film.
something i want to bring up for people only discovering emesis blue now is that its actually a sequel to the short film spy’s disguise, and init dell conagher (aka the games engi) breaks the respawn machine in the area their fighting in (i forgot where it is), which could possibly correlate to the machine going haywire assuming their in a network, at the end of spy’s disguise dell conagher gets killed (head crushed by a log from the map sawmill) hence why hes in the shining reference place despite the fact its in the respawn machine, basically what im saying is dell is dead and you should watch spy’s disguise
TF2 on Dead Meat? An unexpected surprise, but a welcome one. This has to be one of the most ambitious fan film projects I've ever seen and it paid of gloriously! The animation, lighting, camera angles, and atmosphere are a testament to the passion and effort put into this, and I love it.
There's so many incredible things about this video, from James getting his nerdiest tf2 self out into a video, the animations from quality SFMs to amazing shitpost Gmod videos while detailing stuff- It is such an amazing video, kudos to James and the team!

If anyone was curious, there's another Fortress Films production that's a prequ--er, sequ--interquel... thing to this one that came out earlier called "Spy's Disguise". It's not really horror-focused like this one is, but it is very suspenseful and action-focused with plenty of death.

Very excited to see this from you! I was one of the animators on this film and me along with the rest of the team are really proud of our work on it.
It was a masterpiece of an SFM, never seen anything like it. You and your team are incredibly talented and created what can only be described as the perfect way to make a horror film.
Congrats to you and your team for taking the Kill Count Championship.
You should be, dude! Great job!
❤
You should be. Emesis Blue is the best TF2 SFM animation so far.
Nightmare logic. Holy crap, what a word. It explains perfectly
Damn, I've never thought about it that way before, but it makes perfect sense
LETS GO EMSIS BLUE
If you want more Nightmare Logic movies, check out Salvador Dali's 1929 short film "Un Chien Andalou", Orson Welles' 1962 film "The Trial" based on Franz Kafka's novel, and the 2015 Japanese film "Tag". Like Emesis Blue, all three are similarly dark, difficult, and unnerving.

If you notice when Ludwig shoots Jacques, he does so twice as a callback to something Jeremy said to him earlier in the movie during the ride back home, "whatever they do to you, hit 'em back twice as hard!"
Jacques was responsible for medic shooting himself once, so he paid him back with two shots of his own.
Honestly, I love this detail. Almost forgot about Jeremy shortly after he died.
Wonderful one, eh?
Another neat little detail is Soldier mentions being the Voice of God when answering the phone in Medic's office.
Then, when Medic is making his getaway, Soldier stumbles upon Blutarch Mann asking God to help him, only for Soldier to shoot him.

"LONGER THAN YOU THINK!"
So basically, take long time inside, take short time outside, go sleep when inside or else crazy?

-The blood elevator scene.
-Fritz encountering Archibald in the restroom.
The Pyro is “Stock Slasher” character with some Jason references (Pyro revealing his face to Spy is similar to “F13th Part VIII: Jason takes Manhattan)
Spy & Solider’s whole arc is similar to Pulp Fiction (chasing a mysterious briefcase with contents never revealed)
Fritz emerging from Jule’s coffin while looking pale is similar to “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” (where Cesare kills people in his sleep)
The red pit that Solider saw at Conagher Slaughterhouse is depicted very similar to how “Hell” is described in “The House That Built Jack”
Another directly lifted scene, from “The Soprano’s”, when Demo-man says “Our true enemy has yet to reveal themselves”

if they do doctor who. Heaven sent especially the doctor dies over and over for 4 billion years. i think that episode could be counted as horror. there is also the destruction of the daleks which could get a few billion kills aswell as the universe
well considering jason x had technically over 20,000 kills due to that one ship that blew up but he didnt count most of those, i dont think there will be anything to surpass it

Cabin In the Woods would like to know your location.
I really love how the voice actor for the Soldier keeps the style of Rick May's voice but plays it for the more serious tone.
If anyone was curious, there's another Fortress Films production that's a prequ--er, sequ--interquel... thing to this one that came out earlier called "Spy's Disguise". It's not really horror-focused like this one is, but it is very suspenseful and action-focused with plenty of death.
out of anything you could have covered Emesis Blue was an amazing choice SFM is very hard to master and Fortress Films deserves so much praise for making such an amazing and downright creepy film
I actually almost wept tears of joy when I saw footage from SoundSmith and LazyPurple in this vid. My two favorite TF2ubers under narration from James is something I never thought I'd get. It's amazing.
I think it'd actually be AWESOME to see some Dr Who Kill Counts because some of those episodes were TERRIFYING lol
the only catch is that most people die the same way in each episode 😅
doctor dances + empty child and blink would be so good!
@@horselatitudesEmpty Child is an excellent episode, but isn't the whole point of that two-parter that just this once, everybody lives?
I think the waters of mars would be interesting
@@Psyqualia01 ur right! i forgot lol but itd be funny to do a whole kill count for the first part only for him to have to reverse it on the next
17:52 when this scout morphs into a monster after being shot in the head I’m pretty sure it’s a reference to It when pennywise morphed after the fake Georgie got shot in the head
