I love seeing that Charles/Chucky has a normal or even an amazing childhood and parents, it shows that anyone can become a killer and it's not just people who had an unfortunate childhood. The scene where Jake tells Chucky that his dad would have accepted him if he’d had the chance means so, so much to me. You never see that in any media! There’s only accepting or not accepting, good parent or evil parent. I feel like it’s important not only to show kids (and people in general) that people can change to accept the ones they love, but a child who had been hurt still having the confidence to say their father WOULD have come around. I almost cried when I watched that scene the first time; I’m so glad Don Mancini included it ❤️
TBH, I'm kind of torn on how to feel about that. It's nice to see an alternative to the flat binary we often see, but "The parents eventually coming around / meeting a middle point with their kid" is an extremely common plotline (more common than that binary in raw numbers) and isn't really as healthy a message as it seems you think. "Don't worry, your parents will come around if you give them the chance" is a very hopeful and uplifting moral, and it is the exact wrong advice for millions of people who subject themselves to years of pain and abuse holding out hope that they'll change. Cutting your parents out of your life is already an incredibly difficult decision you're already inclined to put off, and just about everything in our society is constructed to make 'giving your dad another chance' or "he'll come around, you'll see!" seem like the only options. But literally tens of thousands of those kids who are holding out hope of their parents changing one day were taken out of highschool to be sent to slave labour camps out in the woods in Utah. Where most suffered extreme physical abuse and a significant plurality were raped. And those aren't even the particularly extreme stories.
Holy crap. I didn't even notice this Kill Count was an hour long until the end. It felt like a normal episode. That's entertainment value, right there.
My personal headcanon is that while Charles clearly takes pleasure in killing, it's mostly skin deep and just what he does to get a momentary burst in dopamine. So when he saw Nika's mother and actually FELT something other than bloodlust, he probably wanted her all to himself. I think that might be the reason why despite being so cool and nonchalant for the most part, he acted very fidgety and awkward towards her, as if he finally didn't need to hide behind a persona around her. Almost like how Tiffany became obsessed with Nika, Charles became obsessed with Nika's mother
This would actually play very well into the franchise's whole thing about identity politics, making Chucky's entire personality around the fact that he's hidden behind killing as a personality because he's afraid to be anybody else. Like a very, very fucked up version of gender identity or sexuality.
I’m so happy you acknowledged the kill count at the end of the series. It does feel like Don tipping his hat to you guys. I really hope you somehow end up getting a Chucky cameo like you had in Scream 2022.
God I’m SO glad I’m not the only one who feels really bad for Nica. Even more so than usual. It’s par for the course for Chucky’s targets to get the short end of the stick and suffer, that’s expected of this series, but it really feels like Nica particularly is getting the brunt of it, and her situation is so hopeless that it’s crossed a point of being campy horror, and now her story feels… cruel. Really cruel. I hope to GOD that she manages to get away, get revenge, or get even a *hint* of a comeback, but it really feels like there’s no escape for her. It feels strange feeling genuine remorse for a character in the Chucky franchise, but Nica’s ending in Season 1 really is wayyyy too far over the line. It feels more befitting of the end of a movie like Texas Chainsaw, Wrong Turn or The Descent. So glad I wasn’t the only one who felt that way!
I was shocked by Nica's ending as well. Kind of hoping that in a twist in season 2 it will actually turn out to be a nightmare she had or something with everything she has been through already...
This may be coming from the fanfic writer in me, but I really want to see Nica using the Voodoo shit to get her limbs back (prosthetics, maybe) and beat the shit out of the Chuckies and Tiffanies. She deserves a win.
@@ericmariscal428 or maybe into Hollywood actor Fiona Dourif? I mean we know that Chucky movies exist in this universe so there has to be a Brad Dourif that voices Chucky in this world considering they reference Bride of Chucky being a real movie in S2 ep1
I think the Chucky series is separated into 5 parts: -The child's play section (Child's play 1-3) -The Tiffany section (Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky) -The Nica section (Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky) -The Reboot section (Child play 2019 remake) -The TV-Series section
I was so pissed when they discontinued this story for that awful remake with Mark Hamil, Cult ended at such an amazing note that it physically hurt when I wouldn't be able to see what happened next. For some reason it's really funny to me when Chucky says "genderfluid" when talking about Glen/Glenda because that implies Glen probably figured out their gender and came out to their parents and Chucky either did research on it or just said "cool" and accepted it was a thing in a sort of blind support of his child.
I am loving this series. Before discovering Dead Meat, I never would've considered it. Thank you, James for convincing me to try out more horror media.
I always love how James appreciate and admires the franchise and the show but is never afraid to call them on their shit like the teacher getting arrested coming out of left field

Man I just feel really bad for Nica. She didn't deserve everything she's been put through by Chucky. First her whole family was killed by the doll and she was ruled as clinically insane, then she got molested and manipulated by that asshole in Cult, then she got possessed by Chucky and used as a puppet, and to top the whole fucking thing off, she got dismembered by a crazy Tiffany? That was the only bit of the Chucky series that made me genuinely sick, and it wasn't even Chucky who did it. Idk, its just the idea of all your limbs being removed, but you're forced to remain alive, makes me feel sick inside. Other than that, loved the series and the kill count! Amazing work by the dead meat crew and Don Mancini!

Why on earth did Bree's therapist think she killed herself? Bree was just talking about how she wanted to spend her remaining time with her family. And did she think that Bree decided to jump out the window with a trolley?
You guys really don't deserve to get screwed by copyright with all the work you do giving the company what is basically free advertising AND doing the Chucky series after show. I seriously hope it gets better, all your efforts shouldn't be for nothing (financially I mean, you all deserve to make a living doing this amazing work!)
My parents actually got to meet Jennifer Tilly in Las Vegas on their honeymoon at the World Poker Tour, sometime in 2007, when they told me this I was like “YOU GUYS MET JENNIFER TILLY?!” And my dad said yeah and I was all freaking out becuz I love Jenifer Tilly. 😭
After a few days of thinking, I believe that it's only logical for Jennifer's Charakter, Tiffany, to do what she did. She is a Killer just like Chucky, but way more child like. It's all like a game for her, that's why she likes to seed confusion and enjoys the pain that comes with that. Charles and her have a really abusive relationship, but everything they do to each other doesn't have consequences on a bigger scale. So it's only natural for her to hurt Nica like this (physical and psychological), not considering that this could have consequences for their relationship. She didn't want her to leave her (like her mom and chucky did), so she took that ability away from her. So even though this scene was brutal it made sense for Tiffany to do this, making even more clear that she is a brutal psychopath. Not just killing and hurting others to please Chucky, but killing and hurting others, because she enjoys it as well.
Yeah I feel like the best way to describe Tiff is as a Murder Housewife. We can get too caught up on her more fun and loveable housewife-y side (that's the side of her that's more sweet and funny and just wants to have a nice comfortable life with a spouse and her kids and to do this together with Chucky) that we forget she can be absolutely brutal in and of herself (that's the murder part lmao)
I started watching the show yesterday in anticipation for this, not even knowing about its existence and I think its honestly some of the best the entire franchise has to offer. It makes me sad that we've gotten three theatrical Halloween sequels in the span of like 5 years, and chucky hasn't even been on the big screen since seed.
A little upset with myself for not watching the show before watching the Kill Count. This seems like it would totally be awesome to watch with all of my friends! I absolutely love that Don Mancini is taking the reigns again, and it looks like everybody is having a damn fun time with this show.

There's definitely a thread of abuse in the tv show that's more prominent than in most of the movies.

It's about them choosing to let that darkness in them win and hurt anyone they can and not having every killer be an abuse victim.

IKR, I'm an artist like Jake, but at least my dad's more accepting of my profession
He 100% would not have accepted him. 🙄

Holy crap. I didn't even notice this Kill Count was an hour long until the end. It felt like a normal episode. That's entertainment value, right there.
44:58 "But killing is an us thing" might be my favourite line of this series thus far besides season 2's "Holy secret identity, Batman!". 😅
When Chucky said “Hey Kid, im gonna go kill your sister, wanna come?” Has me laughing so hard 😂😂😂
“One less little vicious Karen on training wheels. ” I love that line

Almost like how Tiffany became obsessed with Nika, Charles became obsessed with Nika's mother
oh my God, that's genius!
Make it canon!
dude now dont start having a doll hand fetish (ps this is a joke ) and also yes im a jojo fan
Mind excited
This would actually play very well into the franchise's whole thing about identity politics, making Chucky's entire personality around the fact that he's hidden behind killing as a personality because he's afraid to be anybody else. Like a very, very fucked up version of gender identity or sexuality.
Wasn’t aware you were covering this, thank you James and the dead meat team!
Yoooo mikeeee
Didn’t you watch his announcement video?
You type more than you talk huh
Didn't know Michael Myers watched the kill count.

I thought Nica had the short end of the stick already when she ended up possessed, this is even worse! Jeez, cut the poor woman a break!
I think a cool route would to have Nica maybe transfer her soul into a doll or something like that

@@thesymbiotenation.4552 pretty much.
I think the Chucky series is separated into 5 parts:
-The child's play section (Child's play 1-3)
-The Tiffany section (Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky)
-The Nica section (Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky)
-The Reboot section (Child play 2019 remake)
-The TV-Series section
I was so pissed when they discontinued this story for that awful remake with Mark Hamil, Cult ended at such an amazing note that it physically hurt when I wouldn't be able to see what happened next.
It's only thanks to this recount that I learned that this amazing story had a continuation, and I cannot thank you enough James for bringing it to my attention. Bought the Blu Ray last week, cried in horror at Nika's ending, and loved the show so much.

Never thought I'd hear Chucky say "kill the twink"
For some reason it's really funny to me when Chucky says "genderfluid" when talking about Glen/Glenda because that implies Glen probably figured out their gender and came out to their parents and Chucky either did research on it or just said "cool" and accepted it was a thing in a sort of blind support of his child.
Glen/Glenda explicitly came out to their parents in seed of Chucky

I also feel like this really sets up a Nica doll in the future and possibly another body swap after that
