    I bought this watch as a gift for myself when I was promoted at work a few years ago. There are so many capable and amazing Seiko divers out there, but when you really want to 'scratch the itch' of a properly spec'd watch, the King Turtle gives you what you're looking for. Sapphire glass and ceramic bezel, 200m, and the case is outstanding. As someone with a smaller wrist (I prefer 38-40mm case sizes) this thing wears like a dream, it's a damn magic trick how it seems to disappear on your wrist. Keeps good time, wears like a dream, super legible, the bezel action is fantastic. Personal recc, I would say the silicon strap is a better option than the bracelet. The strap is long and kind of goofy, but it is very comfortable and not sweaty, dries fast, it does the job. At least the strap you are getting a premium-feeling option, can't say the same about Seiko bracelets.

    I added the 05 to my small Seiko collection today. And I have to say it is amazing! There is something to be said about the boldness,yet modesty of this watch!

    The silicone strap on this model is nothing short of amazing! I own and have owned a lot of dive watches on rubber/silicone straps but this is the best! In combination with shape of the watch itself makes this extremely comfortable. Love this watch and it leaves most of my other watches collecting dust...

    • @WatchesAndPhotography
      @WatchesAndPhotography ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Seiko may not make the best bracelets in the industry, but they sure do make some of the best rubber straps out there.
      Seiko’s rubber dive straps are so good I bought one for my other Seiko’s that came on bracelets. The attention to small details like lining the springbar holes with a metal tube for structural rigidity is a nice touch, along with fully milled buckles and tongue, polishing on the metal keepers…

    • @dustycups
      @dustycups หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@WatchesAndPhotography The reason for those extra elements such as the metal tube in the springbar holes is to meet the ISO standards. ISO requires a certain structural strength for the strap, so they need to have sturdy parts like the large buckles and reinforced springbars.

    If you look at the watch from the side it actually looks like a turtle. The crown is the head. The bezel the shell.

    I’ve had one of these for a while now, and the only times I don’t have it on are when I’m using a Garmin for bushwalking etc.
    The silicone strap is very, very comfortable, but for daily work wear I rotate through a few NATO and Zulu straps.
    And the watch itself is crazy comfortable to wear with the cushion case and 4 o’clock crown. I have fairly slender wrists, and it doesn’t feel too big at all.
    Oh, and maybe I got lucky with a couple of things. Mine seems to have none of the alignment issues I’ve seen mentioned elsewhere, and it seems to (on average) only lose 2 or 3 seconds per day.

    I have a 4th gen Seiko Monster with the same candy bar cyclops. I really like the cyclops, in fact it was one of the things that actually attracted me to the watch. I feel it gives it some character and added visual interest. But man no joke it is polarizing with people. You either like it or apparently hate it with a seething passion. I noticed just like my Monster if you search King Turtle videos pop up all over of how to take it off. If I remember with my Monster there was even a video of someone melting his chapter ring taking it off, and being totally fine with that as long as he got the cyclops off. 😂

    These look great. I wish Seiko had used more sapphire crystals and ceramic bezels on other divers. The SPB143 should have had a brushed ceramic insert which would have had the exact same look as the steel insert. The SPB313/315/317 should have a ceramic insert instead of an aluminum insert. Would have loved a King version of the mini-turtle which I find much more wearable than the full size turtle on my 6.5” wrist. Unfortunately all the models with ceramic bezels or inserts are huge: Transocean (45mm), King Turtle (45mm), King Samurai (44mm) and the updated King Sumo (45mm). I like the idea of more affordable regular models and upgraded “King” versions. I hope Seiko continues making these in the future.

      Yeah that’s a tough decision

      helps a lot
      Just imagine if the case was a perfect circle ⭕️ shape it would probably look too large for our small wrists
      Personally my other advantage is my stalky body shape might help me pull it off I’m 5-9 over 200 lbs.
      IMO if you’re nowhere near 200 lbs it would probably look too big on a lean arm or wrist

    Only my 2 cents but on my almost 7" wrist, I prefer the SKX007 chassis to the chunkier Turtle all day long and have owned my share of both. The new slimmer Turtle is the better watch IMO, not the chunky King Turtle. Again, my opinion.

    At first when I got into watch collecting, esp. within Seiko’s catalogue, I wasn’t interested in the Turtles at all.
    Now, as I get deeper into the watch world, these turtles grow on me more and more every day. They seem like a great every day watch that is a good balance between elevated materials and craftsmanship, and price.
    Edit: Not to mention the very vibrant and enthusiastic modding community surrounding some of Seiko’s most affordable and beloved watches. 👍🏼

    Is that movement the same NH found in many far less expensive watches? How can Seiko justify that? A watch is its movement.

    It looks a lot better without that ugly cyclops, I removed mine with a soldering iron. Just heat the cyclops untill the glue turns white and chop it off with a razor.
    Don't use a torch, this can damage your watch or burn the bezel.

    These upgrades on king turtle and samurai models really serve only desk divers since true divers prefer softer mineral glass and robust aluminium bezel for they are more shatterproof. Sapphire and ceramic are hard and stay pretty better but when they are damaged they are completely done.

    • @miguelsousa9802

      Well, the market is greatly dominated by casual wear, and the watch is still good for snorkeling and low depths diving, so it is a very good upgrade.
      Any "true divers" prefer dive computers, rather than mechanical watches.

      @@miguelsousa9802 people have been asking for these upgrades from seiko and i totally understand and agree with them. I have the black dial king samurai and love it but i also accept that it has strayed away from its tool roots.
      You are completely right about the dive computers. It was perhaps a little provocative comment on my part.
      I also agree with teddy that the movement upgrade would have been nice.
