You're crazy, Warmouth are my favorite Flathead bait. There isn't even a close second. I'm no Dieter Melhorn, but I do know a thing or 2 about catfish bait and Warmouth will absolutely tote the mail! The bigger the better!!
Years ago my dad took his soft wire gold hooks and reshaped them into circle hooks for panfish until he found some small ones somewhere to buy. I mostly use small beadhead flies and no bait to catch gills for bait. I just use one split shot and have a reel with I think four pound line. Faster than using a fly rod where I fish
I've never used a circle hook for bluegill. I'll take your advice and give it a try. My goto favorite has been a JDM jighead: Cultiva JH-89 Bluegill Assassin. If I can get away with using their .5g or 1g jighead with a #10 hook I will. You don't set the hook on these, but rather treat them just like circle hooks. When you feel the tug, just start reeling. But next time I use worms, I'll definitely try the Gamakatsu circle hook.
I'm going to have to give these a try, I've been using size 6 Aberdeen hooks. Amazon has those gamagatsu circle hooks for pretty cheap. All different sizes
I believe that you could make videos just catching panfish. It is relaxing to watch if presented with a relaxing intention….Thanks for the tip on the hooks….Rock on!
I use tiny long shanked hooks. They are very easy to pull out and i can pull in 10 lb catfish with them. Throw some corn out there the day before and use a cast net or corn on the hook. Grasshopper lures work well at the end of summer when worms don't work.
Thank you thank you Now it always carefishing but you give good tips for sure Thank you for your videos man keep getting out there and catching them fish for us
I use a #14 trout hook w/ bent eye. I snell a packet of them w/ 4lb fluorocarbon. Then when the leader finally gets worn and the hook lost, I just attach another leader to my snap swivel.
i get white perch in the brackish water near where i live, there are bluegill way up in the creek and sometimes down near me but it is brackish so the White Perch are readily available. Ill catch a few perch and then go out close the channel and drown my bait for some fatty blue cats
I use size #6 gamakatsu octopus circle hooks I find you actually don't have to go any smaller than that in my experience. I've caught both very large and very small bluegill on size #6 gamakatsu octopus circle hooks. As a matter of fact I'm actually so convinced you don't have to go smaller than a size #6 gamakatsu octopus circle hook that I actually got rid of all my size #8 gamakatsu octopus circle hooks. Because I felt like I no longer needed them after discovering I can just use size #6 gamakatsu octopus circle hooks.
I like the small circle hooks as well sir. I always pay very close attention to your videos and let me just tell ya that I place a lot of trust in your sage advice. I mean, you know of what you speak. One of the best on TH-cam in my humble opinion. So, here's the thing. Pardon my ignorance but I couldn't get a close enough look at what you called a "warmouth " ....I'm afraid I might be using them thinking they are fabulous baits. Please tell me why you don't like em and I'll see if I can figure out which ones they are. They are all so similar and......sorry for the long comment but I gots to know
I'm going to try these. I have always used size 8 J hooks but this makes sense. With the braid I assume you used a palomar knot? I usually use 2 or 4 lb mono on my ultra lights so may actually try to basic snell that for the hook set.
Ok I need to try these. I've tried small circle hooks before but a different brand and maybe not as small. I am so tired of the abardeen hooks bending.
Are you tying straight to the braid, or running a leader? Also, I've been using circle hooks from Ebay under the 7384 designation. The #10s work for fish up to 1 lb. channel cats so far.
Yes check ur regulations for the states u fish in. It doesn't matter if you are keeping them to eat or as bait. And ur not suppose to catch them when a cast net

Once again Dieter, Professionally done! I appreciate all your hard work! Keep at it brother, Fish on!

Good video like always Dieter. My favorite Bluegill/bream hook is the Gamakatsu Crappie Assortment (15 Pack) size 6 hook.
A great video on bait fishing or just relaxing fishing. Thanks for another fun vidro.
I use 4s for my gills. Eliminates small gills for me. Also bigger fish are deeper. 12-18" off the bottom.
A great product for a great price plus a timely delivery
I started doing this too, what a difference....
Cicada's have been in my neighborhood pretty bad this weekend
Great video Dieter , gotta get some.. thanks

1/64 jig head and a 1” Gulp minnow. Let it fall in the water with no float. Swim it slow if still not bit. They are near an every cast bait for me

Warmouth is usually a lil darker and has a bigger mouth then blue gills

What's ur thoughts on beef liver for catfish bait. Asking bc we already have it and I catch catch any bait in the cast net

I bet the bobby Garland mayfly would have worked great
I use a # 8 10 eagle claw and bend the shank like a true turn cheep effective
Have to try some
How do you keep them from swallowing the hook? I tried the circle hooks yesterday and 2 of the 3 fish still swallowed the hook.
What rod & reel set up do you like for bluegill ?
You mentioned a snake falling out of the tree.... do you have a blooper reel yet?😀
Hello ! What are the size of that spinning rod you are using in this TH-cam video please. Thank you so much 🙏
I use the size 6 for trout
Would these size octopus circle hooks work for rainbow trout also?
The may flys are running a little behind this year
What is a May Files ?
NOTHING MORE FUN THAN ULTRA LITE AND HARD FIGHTING FISH SO FUN. LOL PEACE MY FRIEND
Are they a limit on how Manny blue gill u can catch for bait
Yes check ur regulations for the states u fish in. It doesn't matter if you are keeping them to eat or as bait. And ur not suppose to catch them when a cast net
Yea I know the limit in my state I was just asking his state
why don't May flies come in May, and why don't June bugs come in June
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Solid question.
Why do people drive on parkways and park on driveways? 🤯
@@Good_ol_Boy because we can!
Because the seasons aren't really aligned perfectly with our old ass schedules for them lol
Goodness didn't even show the hook up close or in comparison
Now I feel terrible…
Hi dieter are the octopus circle hooks inline oe offset looks like a great option
Offset, big difference between octopus and octopus circle.
Wax worms and long shank hooks are best for bluegills
