    4:26 💯❤️ Omg such a beautiful garden. . Admittedly a little jelly as they say, only because I tried growing a couple of Adonidia Merrillii aka Christmas palms here in Southern California, Zone 10a-10b but they died. I love the fun frilly fronds ❤️💯 Do you have any suggestions for a Southern California growing zone? We're more inland vs. beachfront.

    Epic yard!!!! I see you don’t use curbing and cut in your beds. How do you cut and edge grass without getting it all over the mulch?

    • @TrueGardener
      @TrueGardener  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question. We do use an edging every other week on the grass and when the bed is originally prepped it’s dig in so there’s a multi level separation and easy to keep edged. However where the rock borders the grass we use an aluminum alloy edging and it does a fantastic job of keeping the border. I’ll mention it in my next video.

    I’ve been searching for inspiration for a lush, layered tropical garden for a few years and am so excited I have finally found you. You mentioned that you only do major maintenance every six months. Could you possibly describe the maintenance requirements of your garden. Any tricks of the trade?

    • @TrueGardener
      @TrueGardener  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol that’s a video in itself. I can say the best part of dealing with tropical is there ability to be severely cut back without damage. So I go in a give them the crew cut needed. So many of my clients snip and cut here and there. The best thing to do is early spring just before the rain starts give everything the hard cut back. Pay attention to your levels, make sure it’s a layered cut but imagine where you cut that will be the starting place of all the new growth you are getting in 6 months. Lol maybe I should do a video on this. 😃

    Interested to know full sun palms and plants. Maybe Jacaranda tree or Flamboyant tree, bourgainvilla grown as a standard tree. Tradescantia plants Malayan dwarf coconut palm. Just Interested in any fresh ideas . Full sun, near coastal areas so most likely salt In the winds , and help with mealy bugs? Can dish washing liquid and water, kill them ? You ever grown Soursop trees ?

      Check out my website go to the page on the gallery of trees and it shows a pic of several trees and plants with a description below them. That may help you. • @TrueGardener

      Hello Gary. They can handle full or partial sun well. I use Dominion pesticide drench twice a year during the buggy season this keeps them clean of nearly all pests. I feed them with Palm gain 8-2-12 every March, June, sept and sometimes October depending on if we have some early cold fronts move in. Best of luck to you!

  • @tropicaussie4572
    @tropicaussie4572 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just wondering, have you grown Sealing Wax (Lipstick) palms in your garden or home , or are winter cool snaps too prevalent ?
    Even in our tropical climate here in Queensland , it can get too cool at night in winter for Lipsticks to flourish well , as they really are an Equatorial palm.
    They will only grow well from around Mission Beach and further north to Cooktown .

      hello Kimberly, welcome to gardening and answered your question that can depend on so many things if you want something low maintenance dwarf palm trees are probably the best bet like a pygmy palm if you want something tough and sturdy Croton like Miami Croton variegated arborcola, Agaves clusia some of the most common plants can handle the intense heat.

      They can handle frost temps for no more than three hours at a time. If they are young cover it with plant blankets during a frost. Once it reaches 10-12ft heights its can handle slightly longer cold spells.

      Well, 🤔that could be difficult depending on size of the areas you have to work with I would go with a tree that has a voracious root system like a Hong Kong orchid, a queen crêpe myrtle, a royal Poinciana, something along those lines as they are more of an aggressive grower. Ive seen non palm trees struggle in the infected areas, so id find something strong and hardy for that location. Good luck to you 😁
