You absolutely need to sort any leak first. I'm surprised the neighbours haven't complained to be honest. No point in replacing any flooring or decorating until the leak is solved.
I’d be pissed off that this wasn’t picked up in the survey, it should have been spotted and I’d be wanting some money back. Definitely need to get that leak sorted before anything else. I think a shower would be great, saves space, saves water if you’re on a water meter. Think I’d be inclined to get someone with plumbing knowledge to install the shower. Look forward to seeing how you get on. 👍👍👍
Yahh we certainly questioned why it wasn’t picked and I’ve had some updates as to why it wasn’t which I’ll share in upcoming videos. I’m seeking all the professional advice I can get 👊🏻
I suggest you keep all that tiling bc it's great and sort out the mold issues before you move forward in the bathroom and that wall between your bathroom and your bedroom. Black mold is no joke.
As someone who had an unexplained cough for years, due to an undiscovered dishwasher drip that caused hidden mold under tile & behind my kitchen cabinets, MAKE REMEDIATION OF THAT WATER/BATHROOM ISSUE A PRIORITY! If you're smelling it, then it's probably going to be a health issue once you move in and breath it in full time.
I feel your pain. My missus is all for doing a half job that means double the work for me in the long run too lol. If you’re ripping the bath out unless your fitting wetwall over the tiles you want to re tile it. At that point just get a new suite. It’s not too expensive
Remove all the sealant first, dry everything out under the floor, then check the waste, then fill the bath full of water then seal it as that will the true level of the bath, I'm a retired plumber, any other help let me know, good luck both of you 😊
I'm so surprised that the leak isn't showing on the ceiling of the flat below. But I would definitely challenge why it wasn't picked up in survey when you could smell damp. Ps - they now call it a stop tap 😊
We're about to move, and bathroom leaks are my worst nightmare - especially as we've been in private rental for the last decade so never needed to get 'hands on' with any DIY. You've done well so far 👍🏻.
Great video and congratulations on your first home purchase. Also living in the south east so feel your pain re: house prices, you don't get a lot for your money! You're doing the right thing in getting stuck in and having a go. You're certainly right to be addressing the leek before continuing as it's just going to ruin the bedroom again. It would be a waste of hard work and money. We're currently doing up out 3rd house, for us, it's been the only real way to climb the property ladder. In terms of your shower/bath debate, if it's your only bathroom, I'd stick with a shower over the bath if there isn't enough room for both. If you have children in the future there (don't mean to scare you) you're going to want a bath. My sister opted to rip out a bath and 5 years after switching it out for a shower, she now wants a shower over a bath and she now has a child. Also, consider how long you're planning on being there. I e always had a resale mindset so I've always opted for neutral fixtures and fittings so it doesn't offend anyone come resale... You'd be surprised how a room painted a particular colour will deter a new buyer. Everyone wants a turn-key property with no effort. If you're planning on staying there a while, have whatever you want just maybe be prepared to change things back to neutral/ reinstall a shower/bath before selling to make it more appealing to the masses. Keep up the great work, there's my penny in the pot!
I’ve addressed the leak and going to get it sorted once and for all! Let’s just say it’s caused some serious damage! Great point about the shower vs bath as I didn’t realise this would affect the resale value but I think most people wouldn’t live here with kids as probably not enough space!
My first home, a mid terraced town house which is now my rental property, had no renovations done since 1970. After 18 months of dragging our feet and trying out D.I.Y. we gave up and employed contractors. £22,000 later and within 2 months the house was mordernised to today's spec of comfortable living. I wanted to move back in. We've had great tenants in there for the last 7yrs. but we did enjoy the fun of trying though. !!!! Love watching your Vlogs and following your story. You'll get there. Dave and Soph xx
Wow Will, well done for giving it a go, that’s how we learn, mind you I did giggle when Evie said you can’t be trusted 🤣😂🤣 I think you’re right, gut the bathroom and use second hand furniture in the interim to save cash instead. Looking forward to seeing how you get on😊
Always use ABACUS BOARDS FOR SHOWERS ,they come with a waterproof kit , don't use plasterboard if your re,tiling ,you will never have water damage IF DONE PROBABLY, slightly more expensive but well worth it ,,SCRAPE out cracks and use a good quality filler on walls etc 😊
I’ve heard this before too, but I’m not sure it’s correct any more. For example, in Barcelona nearly all flats have showers instead of baths because of water shortages. Appreciate we’re not talking about Barcelona here, but for the future with bills and everything I wonder if a fancy shower room done well would actually add more value than a traditional bath with shower over.
@8:30 should have ran the shower and sprayed all along silicone seal and check under bath and otherside of wall for 5 minutes that would usually be step one and if that shows nothing inspect grout between tiles then spray with water if no suspect holes found. If not that worst case scenario maybe a pipe in the wall but best way to check for slow leaks is the slow spinning dial on water meter while using no water it should not spin but if it spins at any rate while not using water that's a slow leak. If it is only silicone leak best long term solution is using abacus shower tray sealer that sits between tiles and wall which obviously means taking tile off. All depends on location of water leak.
At first glance before taking bath door off it seemed quite over the top although having seen the state of under the floor tiles it's somewhat worth it. More testing should still have been carried out before removing parts but best way to learn is by doing. Congrats to having a partner with such great patience too 👍🏻
thanks so much for you comments with all the advice, much further investigation was done and I'll be honest it's not looking great but I'll make it work somehow. Keep an eye out for the videos coming up as you'll be shocked what we found
Totally the right thing to do, strip it all out, fix it, put it back better! It's a shame you had to do it, but for the best! Really enjoy your vlogs, hilarious!
My God, you literally live just around the corner from me! I can see my flat in that aerial shot at the 1:26 mark! No wonder I saw you in the local Co-op not so long ago. 😆
I am looking forward to all these videos. I liked the green tbh. Showing off your body to the locals, and they will love you. I know a plumber who lives near you, and I could have asked him to help you I would talk to a surveyor and lawyer to see why they didn't pick up on the leak I would just have a shower if it was me. Have a great week Will and Evie.
Been in my flat 12 yrs had to move out twice whilst Insurance ripped every floor up in my flat Industrial dehumidifiers in for 1 month full rebuilds and both times it was the shower , I never put a shower back in and never will, I bath and if I want showers I use the gym showers
If water can break dams what is a house made to hold out on water. Take this task with priority to repair any water issues. This will be the best decision of your purchase. Get a local plumbing expertise on this and proceed with the solution. And if you've open the bathtub might aswell check the whole bathroom for any future issue needing remidies
I was recommended to get paint from Dulux trade centre and would recommend to you. They always have big discount codes, will make any colour (inc from different brands) and it's top quality paint. B&Q not so good and not always cheaper.
those look like the houses in my Estate Will!! Newcastle upon Tyne. you know how to turn the stopcock off Will, congrats, first stage of becoming a Plumber!
Oh will, I see more work comming. But I´m confident you both will do it! But getting rid of the leaking was right. And don´t forget to dry the wall and the floor properly before installing a new bath! If it stays wet you will have mould everywhere in the wall and will never get rid of it. That won´t be healthy. You do it!!!
Any staining on emulsion painted walls ,Use a cheap under coat as a stain block lightly sand and re,paint PS ALWAYS HAVE THE CORRECT TOOLS FOR THE JOB WILL LAD ENJOY....😊
With the bath id fix it best you can and wait until you can get whole lot done. Specially if you want to put shower in and not sure if you have spare tiles to fill the gap. Think good old silicone job would done the job. I use to work with bathrooms and usually bath or shower tray go in before tiles with thick beed of silicone to the wall plus the one after tiles been fitted.
doing a great job.rip everything out plaster board too about 3ft from floor replace any timber that looks wet or black.do the job right you only pay once.will when doing this work please wear a mask.mould when moved creates spores that cant be seen.good luck be patient.
t]=That property u say u could of bought in Thailand for that money is miss leading. I live in Thailand for the last 26 years, any property like the one u described sells for way more than that if its near a beach or has sea views.
@WillsWhereabouts I understand, I live in Thailand, and my house is up for sale on TH-cam for 60 million baht, in a gated community with private access to the beach only 80 meters away. Big difference in the price u quoted . But good luck with the flat and the camper van 👍
@WillsWhereabouts yeah just realised when you converted it you missed out on on one of the zeros hence the reason why you thought it was 270k and not 2.7 million
Pro Tip: You'll most likely have to deal with cleaning up some mold & mildew issues. Don't make the most common mistake by trying to use bleach as it doesn't kill mold. You'll need to get some industrial strength Hydrogen Peroxide or Borax. Borax is more non-toxic & less dangerous to use but I'm not sure how available it is in the UK.
Will, I live in a small village in Surrey 😮 and the prices are extortionate, I feel so bad for young people these days trying to get on the property ladder, my daughter has had to move up north and I have missed her so much, she’s going to try and rent down here after Christmas but even rent is extremely expensive. It’s so unfair 😢 good luck to you and your lovely girlfriend I wish you both all the best xx
Thanks so much, the prices really are crazy aren’t they and like you say even renting is just ridiculous. It was cheaper for us to get a mortgage than renting so that’s why we wanted to get our own place
Hey Will. Are the joists ok underneath? Because you can't be doing anything unless the structure is secure. Sorry just saying. I'd also be chatting to a lawyer about the surveyor not picking up on this.
@WillsWhereabouts yeah it would. I keep telling my clients to use paper because I then have to sand it down and white coat even before I put the new coats on. Ps. All flats and houses have hidden issues. Bit like vans 😃 But your get there and change it from a flat to a home. You might find part of that issues in the basement ceiling will be from the leaking bath. So again. It will all dry out and be better
I uploaded a version of this video on the 2nd Channel a few months back but the decided to delete it and keep everything on the main channel going forward so they'll be fresh new content coming up over the next few weeks that no one will have seen 😃
Bruv you need to find yourself a decent plumber (check them out first as there are some real cowboys out there that can make the job worse) and get the plumbing and mould sorted first. Once you have that strong clean, dry foundation you can build on it and start developing your castle. Great vlogs by the way. Hope all works out mate
Fill bath first to add weight, then a good quality sealant around bath leave overnight, you will have a good watertight seal ,bish bosh job done ...With time comes knowledge young man 😊
Can you put a claim in against the building surveyor ? I know what they would say, we only check the structure of the building, rip off . I never had any surveys done for this reason.
@WillsWhereabouts yes I think your right , I never bothered with a survey when I was your age buying a property with a mortgage as the bank/ building society do one, and that was good enough for me and I never had a problem with any of the properties. I ended up being a large landlord with many properties with and without the banks and never had those waste of money surveys.

@@WillsWhereabouts Phew! I thought I’d accidentally invented time travel! I was scratching my head, trying to figure it out, going so dizzy I nearly needed a lie down. 🤯 Honestly, I was one cup of tea away from opening a wormhole in my living room!” ☕😂 Dont worry we are all mad in Somerset
Turn water off ,remove taps , thoroughly clean all mastic sealant off dry thoroughly use masking tape before you apply sealant you'll probably need it fill bath apply mastic spray with water smooth and leave overnight simple effective short-term fix..😊ps taps should have rubber washers under neath😊😊😊
I've learned from my mistakes WILL 😊 LOVE the vids by the way..PS them black things under carpet are old fashioned tiles a bit like bacolite , check for asbestos if removing, just a thought....
Why don't you use push fit for all your plumbing needs , plastic pipes that won't rust, do away with all your metal corrosion pipes and have clean plastic easy to fix push fit pipes, a simple shower wouldn't be a bad idea but you need a bath for when you come to sell it, you are doing the right thing by ripping it out and sorting out the problem.
Thanks mate, I felt like it all needed to go after seeing the state of the leak and underneath the bathtub. Wait to see the rest of it in upcoming videos
Get some 15mm isolators for the pipes. Take the flex off n put the isolators on. U can turn the water back on then long as the isolators are turned up. If ur fitting the bath back. Put the bath against the tiles where the tapes are. Draw a penis line where the bath meets the tiles n angle grind urself a straight like so the tiles overlap the top of the bath. U will get a better seal
Love all these renovation videos. One thing though…why do you keep doxing yourself? Giving away your flat number, showing your front door, showing the building then zooming out to show the area. Doesn’t seem the safest idea to me. Anyway hope all goes well and you both stay safe.
Well said. I mentioned the same last time they did a house video a few weeks back. Crazy risky if you ask me, its a very unique building as it is, let alone then zooming out and showing a pretty recognisable train station and town. I'm almost surprised someone hasnt posted the address in the comments or online somewhere already just to be awkward. Actually, i see someone has pretty much done that below.
I totally get your point and really appreciate people pointing this out as perhaps I should be more conscious not to show the location etc. From my perspective, I'm trying to build a story and a narrative and I think it's important to show certain aspects of the building, mainly in the video before. I also feel as if, if anyone wanted to find out were any A list celebrities lived or people with much larger followings than me then if you look hard enough you can find those details. We all know where Jeremy Clarkson lives and many other celebrities, granted they'll have tighter security I'm sure but I'm also someone that doesn't post provocative content that creates a reaction (I don''t think anyway) It's the same with car registration plates and even businesses having there home address down as the company address. My point is there really isn't much privacy or security now days, there's odd people everywhere and if people really want to find something out then they will no matter how much I try to hide or be discreet. I do agree that I could be more mindful and careful and going forward I will be (too late now really anyway with the last 2 videos but that's a risk I've taken). If someone wants to turn up uninvited they'll be told to leave but I'm definitely taking these points on board going forward so thanks very much.

for resale value a tub is worth more than a shower, BUT, i removed both tubs in my house because showers are just cleaner.
A bathtub adds more value to a property, why's that?
@WillsWhereabouts more people like the option to take a bath or a shower (more options), i suppose.

Brighter colors always make a room feel larger!
Thankfully with the heigh ceilings the rooms feel nice and big anyway but certainly nothing to dark colour wise
You are absolutely right to strip out the bath to be certain of the source of the leak. I would be inclined to replace it with a large shower cubicle.

hah I''ll save the Thai villa for the future and yea property prices are crazy
Any staining on emulsion painted walls ,Use a cheap under coat as a stain block lightly sand and re,paint PS ALWAYS HAVE THE CORRECT TOOLS FOR THE JOB WILL LAD ENJOY....😊
Knew tools will be needed 😂
With the bath id fix it best you can and wait until you can get whole lot done. Specially if you want to put shower in and not sure if you have spare tiles to fill the gap. Think good old silicone job would done the job. I use to work with bathrooms and usually bath or shower tray go in before tiles with thick beed of silicone to the wall plus the one after tiles been fitted.
Awesome thanks for the advice mate still need to do some investigating on the bathroom and then will work out what’s what
I would be ringing the insurance company up....
Ohh we might have tried this, all will be revealed in upcoming videos
Paint then caulking
doing a great job.rip everything out plaster board too about 3ft from floor replace any timber that looks wet or black.do the job right you only pay once.will when doing this work please wear a mask.mould when moved creates spores that cant be seen.good luck be patient.
thanks Mick, definitely going to try and do it right and take my time with it
Should do laminate throughout the flat makes it easier to clean.
We've already got engineered wood flooring which we may sand down slightly to lighten it up
Get yourself some silicone finishing tools for perfect silicone and caulking
I've got a few handy so look forward to giving it a try
t]=That property u say u could of bought in Thailand for that money is miss leading. I live in Thailand for the last 26 years, any property like the one u described sells for way more than that if its near a beach or has sea views.
That's what it came out as Thai baht when I converted it
@WillsWhereabouts I understand, I live in Thailand, and my house is up for sale on TH-cam for 60 million baht, in a gated community with private access to the beach only 80 meters away. Big difference in the price u quoted . But good luck with the flat and the camper van 👍
@WillsWhereabouts yeah just realised when you converted it you missed out on on one of the zeros hence the reason why you thought it was 270k and not 2.7 million
@TTWF24 🤣🤣🤣
@@bigal2417 ikr
The Villa in thailand is not the same price, its over 3 million USD
So channel 2 is now defunct?
Not completely but for bigger video series I'll upload them onto here and for random one off videos I'll upload onto the 2nd channel
hope you used sealant around the windows and not caulk!
I can’t remember now 😂😂
Pro Tip: You'll most likely have to deal with cleaning up some mold & mildew issues. Don't make the most common mistake by trying to use bleach as it doesn't kill mold. You'll need to get some industrial strength Hydrogen Peroxide or Borax. Borax is more non-toxic & less dangerous to use but I'm not sure how available it is in the UK.
amazing thanks very much for the advice on this
Will, I live in a small village in Surrey 😮 and the prices are extortionate, I feel so bad for young people these days trying to get on the property ladder, my daughter has had to move up north and I have missed her so much, she’s going to try and rent down here after Christmas but even rent is extremely expensive.
Commented on your last video saying i live round the corner and im a plumber 😂 let me know if you need any advice/help 👍🏻
Haha thanks mate, more updates to come so you’ll see what we’ve done
Have you fitted a diesel heater yet? 😂😂
not yet 😂
I've saw this months ago. Not saw a video since.
I uploaded a version of this on the 2nd channel a few months back but then decided to keep everything on the main channel going forward
Hey Will. Are the joists ok underneath? Because you can't be doing anything unless the structure is secure. Sorry just saying.
I'd also be chatting to a lawyer about the surveyor not picking up on this.
Going to be investigating this over the next few videos so will let you know as soon as the videos come out
Fill bath before reaealing the edges i belive thats a thing the trade do
Put test paints on a4 paper that you can try on different parts of the wall. All thouse patches will show under the finished coat you chosen
let's just say, it took a lot of sanding 😂
@WillsWhereabouts yeah it would. I keep telling my clients to use paper because I then have to sand it down and white coat even before I put the new coats on.
Ps. All flats and houses have hidden issues. Bit like vans 😃
But your get there and change it from a flat to a home.
You might find part of that issues in the basement ceiling will be from the leaking bath. So again. It will all dry out and be better
EY saw big Durham on the maps gerrrup
Wow ive never heard of a property in thailand be that cheap send me the link to the website and im on my way to buy it tommorow 😅
Best of luck! apparently I got it wrong, it's actually 2.7 million 😂
It leaking more than The Exon Valdez!, 😮
😂
Probably a good idea to buy a new bath before ripping apart the old one
Think we might put a shower instead
Go to your solicitors. Water damage shouldn't be your problem if it wasn't in the home report.
That's what we thought and now we've been left with it
Lol.....caveat emptor. You're just silly.
wait i’ve seen this before 🤨
How do you think he pays for this flat he has not got a paper round
I uploaded a version of this video on the 2nd Channel a few months back but the decided to delete it and keep everything on the main channel going forward so they'll be fresh new content coming up over the next few weeks that no one will have seen 😃
how do you know that for sure?
@@WillsWhereabouts Ahhh I figured 😅 I thought I had a deja vu or something
Bruv you need to find yourself a decent plumber (check them out first as there are some real cowboys out there that can make the job worse) and get the plumbing and mould sorted first. Once you have that strong clean, dry foundation you can build on it and start developing your castle. Great vlogs by the way. Hope all works out mate
Thanks David thats the plan, keep an eye out for future videos to see what I've done
Fill bath first to add weight, then a good quality sealant around bath leave overnight, you will have a good watertight seal ,bish bosh job done ...With time comes knowledge young man 😊
exactly, always willing to learn
Make sure u fill the bath up with water before u reseal it.
Thanks for the tip 👊🏻
Can you put a claim in against the building surveyor ? I know what they would say, we only check the structure of the building, rip off . I never had any surveys done for this reason.
Yea this is something we thought about but lots of people mentioned it was a waste of time and I'll go into this in more detail in upcoming videos
Fill bath see if it leaks under neath
Did you have a survey?
we did 👀, clearly not a good one
@@WillsWhereaboutswas it a class 2 or 3 because you may be able to claim off the surveyor
but we have seen ths

@@WillsWhereabouts Phew! I thought I’d accidentally invented time travel! I was scratching my head, trying to figure it out, going so dizzy I nearly needed a lie down. 🤯
Honestly, I was one cup of tea away from opening a wormhole in my living room!” ☕😂 Dont worry we are all mad in Somerset
😂😂
Turn water off ,remove taps , thoroughly clean all mastic sealant off dry thoroughly use masking tape before you apply sealant you'll probably need it fill bath apply mastic spray with water smooth and leave overnight simple effective short-term fix..😊ps taps should have rubber washers under neath😊😊😊
Sounds like you know what you're doing
I've learned from my mistakes WILL 😊 LOVE the vids by the way..PS them black things under carpet are old fashioned tiles a bit like bacolite , check for asbestos if removing, just a thought....
Mind them carpet grippers they will rip your fingers off lol 😊
I hope you don’t have mold under there.
Me too 👀
Why don't you use push fit for all your plumbing needs , plastic pipes that won't rust, do away with all your metal corrosion pipes and have clean plastic easy to fix push fit pipes, a simple shower wouldn't be a bad idea but you need a bath for when you come to sell it, you are doing the right thing by ripping it out and sorting out the problem.
Thanks mate, I felt like it all needed to go after seeing the state of the leak and underneath the bathtub. Wait to see the rest of it in upcoming videos
Bath not supported with battons underneath. Hate those trim edge pieces always issues. Needs a silicon seal with a tool not ypur fingers.
Yahh I've learnt a lot that's for sure after dismantling all this
YESSSSSSS
👊🏻
Will you can turn off the water and pull the bathroom out
Why didn't you get an inspection before buying it?
we did, they just never mentioned anything on the report about the bathroom
Buying old property is a bit like playing craps. Sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes you lose the wager lol.
😂 I'd agree with you there
Get some 15mm isolators for the pipes.
Awesome thanks for the advice, I'll have to give it a try
We chose to ignore the obvious leak thats bad enough to be coming through your walls to carry on decorating..
Makes sense.
Priorities right 👍🤦♂️
Noooo we addressed the leak
Cook chicken parmesan in van ❤
With the copious gas release, you're gonna need a methane monitor to ensure it's safe to work in lol
😂
I also said on last video but he deleted the comments...
Really risky, literally takes 2 mins to find i wouldn't be putting my home on YT
We all know where Jeremy Clarkson lives and many other celebrities, granted they'll have tighter security I'm sure but I'm also someone that doesn't post provocative content that creates a reaction (I don''t think anyway)
It's the same with car registration plates and even businesses having there home address down as the company address.
If looks could kill, when you said "that's how she likes it", you'd be long gone 😂 😂
😂😂😂
Why has your toilet not got a lid?
I have no idea 🤷♂️
