@@MrHack4never Super chill. For the 1998 furbies just cut a zip tie and maybe 2 screws on the faceplate and the whole skin pops off. A few more screws for the shell and boom you have access to everything. All of the components are very simple too. I'm very new to electronics in general and I can point at things and know what they are.
@@MrHack4never The only one I haven't been able to repair in the 70ish I've worked on seems to have a corroded board with a shorted power chip. I identified the chip with the schematics from the trademark paperwork. The entire board and all of the parts are laid out in it. It's wonderful. I did manage to get that furby to turn on and go through the wake up dance but without that chip functioning it just sends power to the motor and nowhere else.
imagine having your life support turned off, only for it to be turned back on and for you to wake up with your skin removed and the same man who is doing this to you to prod your incredibly sensitive tongue, claiming he is force feeding while you are forced to giggle and squirm while you suffer in agony. then your world goes dark once again as your life support is turned off again, only for it to yet again be turned back on and more of your body parts have been removed, and then for this process to repeat until there is nothing left of you. truly a horrific fate.
If they had made that coat easier to remove and replace, just imagine how much fun people could have customizing these little guys. The vintage market has a bunch of people who do custom Furbys and they already had enough of a fight to do for that. Come on Hasbro, encourage some creativity with the next iteration!
Considering the target demographic is and always will be children they have no incentive to do that. Basically they don't want a kid to ever get into the furby for legal reasons.
@@strayiggytv Oh, I get that. Though, even that's a silly reason considering all the build it yourself robots that are aimed at the same age demographic out there. Still, just a bummer.
This is very useful information for Furby fans, as the community has a strong focus on repairing/restoring them; it's a shame you have to really rip and tear to get the fur off, especially since other models are considerably easy to skin.
@@MonochromeMoths Oh, I know, unfortunately; my Connect was ruined when I opened them up to muffle their speaker. I followed a tutorial very closely, but it jacked up the touch sensors. :(
I can't help feeling that someone with way more patience than sense could figure out how to non-destructively remove the pelt. (at least after two or three sacrificial furbies and manufacturing some special tools) But maybe I'm just not sufficiently jaded regarding the sadism of engineers.
This furby has many similar design features to the furby boom and 2012 model, both of which I have successfully skinned and pulled apart without any damage at all. This guy rushed the process and resorted to cutting and tearing the fur off, which I totally understand cause it is painstaking and time consuming, however he didn’t need to do that, because I have done it carefully without ruining the furby.
Would certainly make for a good* alarm clock... 😉 (* - If _good_ is taken to mean _being woken up every 30 minutes to continue your Spanish lesson!_ 🤣)
And that's why I save parts from Furbys that have died! They don't sell replacements, but I've got plenty! I'm always prepared when it comes to these little guys.
I had a Furby Boom once that broke, sent it to YT'er carsandwater to be RHNB'd! XD Ofc not until after I'd tried repairing him myself, he was a little bit easier to skin than the guy you got there, not by a lot, but enough that I was able to put his pelt back on.. :P
It’s so sad how they obviously aimed this version towards girls. I had one when I was a child and I loved it, why does it have to be designed for one gender? Such a shame
Would parents even buy a "boy" themed one for boys? Everyone blames Hasbro for this but look at the culture. Americans are terrified boys liking ANYTHING will make them g@y. I've seen parents not buy their little boys anything that wasn't weapon or tool shaped because "play pretend is for girls" which is just gross and sad. Hasbro wouldn't leave money on the table so they probably have market research that points to this trend of extreme masculinity being pushed on little boys and designed furby accordingly.
how nice of them to remove all the heart and soul from furbies design , and turned it into another copypaste animatronic toy that looks exactly like the next 5 on the shelf. really sad to see
Vintage furby repair person here. Thank you for the teardown!
What are the old ones like when it comes to repair?

The thin line between repair and eldritch horror.
Sounds like an interesting book.
Not sure that no Furby was harmed, to be honest.

The Connect is also quite hard to skin.

Most brutal teardown ever.
The new furby is much less disturbing when skinned than the first gen
Yes but now they yassified Furby
This will also make producing a furby organ v2 WAY easier!
Blursed, I love it
IT WAS STILL ALIVE! You monsters! 😭😭😭

@@thefurbyartist4711yeah those tabs are delicate but they can be removed without breaking
I’ve seen less destructive teardowns of this furby, so it definitely is possible
You forgot to give repairability score.
This should have been released on Halloween 😂😂
Not the teardown we wanted, but we needed.
Why there isnt a @Duolingo furby

I prefer the skinless furby. Maybe they should make an atomic purple variant
Every previous generation of this toy series seemed more sophisticated than that new model.
these things cost almost $100 in my country and so I clicked on this video to prove it's not an $100 product, I have been proven correct
Most metal teardown ever. \m/

No replacement “organs” for Furby is shameful !

This is practically unwashable if you only wanted to throw the coat to the washer
No more mama
Born too late to wear Racoon Skin cap, born just in time to wear Furby pelt hat! ooooh ahhhh
: ) THANKS for haring ! LOL, my X had one, and I don;t know if it survived her ! :) ALL the BEST and Cheers ! : )
when you run out of things to tear down:
This is wild
No mercy, no pain
Poor Furby 😢
Couldn't wait for April for this huh?
You should do this with a furby from the late 90’s
Nah the 2023 Furby doesn't have a terrible design, it's just limited because of how high-tech it can be without too may motors.
That thing is evil. Nightmares tonight.
I still prefer the old design
I dont think I've seen a more literal teardown haha definitely not repair friendly
This furby looks like a downgrade from the previous generation furby connect
That’s gore. That’s gore of my comfort character
no words

that metal click sound 😭😭
This reminds me of an episode from The Simpsons :'v
This was disturbing…
In thinking this is because it was handmade in China for the reasoning for the design decisions
I prefer Furby Boom tbh
no way
This is triggering Scott of Kentucky Ballistics (literally)
Ah you mean the new furries. The old ones were designed much better imo
Yes I know I said furry instead of furby but I think it’s funnier this way lol
Can't wait for an AI powered Furby 🙃
