  • This is a montage of a little baby named Liv doing what babies do during their first year of life.
    It is the second video we've produced. Be sure to visit the first clip: • Rolling - Feldenkrais ...
    In this second clip titled "crawling", we highlight the importance of a child learning movement from the orientation of them being on the front side of their body.
    It is from this orientation to their environment that the motion of crawling begins.
    We show how using curiosity, exploration and a variety of movement possibilities is an innate part of learning from the beginning, and this highlights key learning principles within The Feldenkrais Method
    This has been compiled from a year of footage taken in Whistler, BC. Contact irene@irenelyon.com for more information on the project.
    Produced by Irene Lyon (formerly Gutteridge)
    Directed by Irene Lyon and Jenn Strom
    Camera, Writing and Editing by Jenn Strom
    Original Music by David Picking

    This is just lovely on so many levels! Early years practitioners and parents all need to see the purposefulness of everything babies do, and let them move to the next step in their own timeframe..
    I was a baby who didn't crawl, and who at times lacked strong support because of life events - and a grownup who sometimes struggles with 'unweighting' myself - The metaphors and the literal meanings are looping round for me... Thank You.

    I love this video! I had severe hip dysplasia at birth and missed out on much of this opportunity to explore at this age, but have been exploring as an adult in my Feldenkrais sessions. It's wonderful to see how this happens naturally - it's such a lovely, positive video and a great way to explain to others what Feldenkrais method is.

      Hi Haresh - Mara here with Team Lyon. When babies learn to crawl, sometimes they do it asymmetrically and it's fine, and sometimes the asymmetrical crawling may be an indication of motor challenges or neurological challenges, particularly if the difference between the two sides shows up during other activities too. If you have any concerns, it's best to consult with your family's doctor or pediatrician.

    Question please anyone that understand please answer
    My 11 month old crab crawls is that a bad thing? i figure she didnt recieve enough tummy time! how can i change that????

    • @IreneLyon
      @IreneLyon  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Has she only ever crab crawled?
      Crab crawling actually uses the same muscles that are required for her to be lying on her stomach (back muscles) 🙂
      I wouldn't say it's a bad thing at all. She's exploring movement and finding ways to be supported and mobile!
      There's the opportunity to have fun with her with this. Play a little game of copy cat. Copy her crab crawling. And see if she will copy you crawling on all fours.
      Learning to move is all about experimenting and playing. There isn't a right or wrong. It's all about her system starting to find all these different ways to be in the world!
      Hope that helps.

    I just wonder how to help your baby to to hit her head all the time ? :) Each time when I put my baby down on the floor she sooner or later just b ash her head into the floor.. :D

    • @IreneLyon
      @IreneLyon  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dorota, when you mean "put my baby down..." do you mean you're putting her in a certain position ie like sitting or on her stomach? My invitation would be to notice if she tends to hit her head when she puts herself in what positions she is ready to be in. As she finds the organization and supported in positions (like coming to sit/lye on her own) she will most likely not bash her head into the floor as she will be more structurally ready to be there.
      How is she doing now - 4 months later?
