Miss Rankin's.. A popular place on a Sunday for tea and scones. A lot of folk from the Strone walked there. Possibly a big part of her income.. My late dad worked at Garshangan in the seventies and eighties on a Saturday and would walk there from Branchton. She would be out and about early and always waved as he passed.
Can't tell you how many times we climbed Corlic and had tea and scones in the wee tea room. I still visit the ruins when I'm back home. Will be there in September this year again.
That's an incredible video. I had heard of "Mrs Rankins tea room". But wasn't 100% sure where it was. It's amazing just how fast a building can go from being habited to a ruin. How long has it been since the farm was last used?
Many thanks Alistair. Peggy passed away toward the end of the 80s and she was very well known and popular with hill walkers. My wife told me that she remembered lots of clocks on her wall when she was little and funny enough I was exploring the farm some twenty five years ago and found little springs everywhere in the rubble and also an old car which was crushed as well. It was destroyed by a neighbouring farmer who told my mother in law the reason he done it was to stop anyone setting it on fire which makes no sense.
HipStar anytime but people shouldn't destroy someone's precious family home especially when the dead and I'm sorry for her loss. Anytime you need anything just tell me or have a chat to me
