    Maybe it's different for you since you do run a youtube channel about planner, but I find the multiple planners plan shown in this video at odds with both: the idea of a single place to capture everything that one can refer back to and also an earlier video on this channel about planner consumerism.
    I think it's fine to want to switch between different systems as your life changes, but imho, the best way to do that is to get a blank planner and draw/paste whatever system works in the moment.

    • @ccpippin307
      @ccpippin307 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      That sounds like a plan notebook or bujo, and that can take a LOT of time.
      I'm a huge fan of using what's working in the moment. My moods change, so can my planner. I feel no guilt because it improves my life. I'll HAPPILY spend a week's worth of wages on tools to make all 52 weeks better.

      Yeah I think it's a luxury that makes sense for her with the TH-cam channel! I would never consider more than one planner at one time

    • @Laura-je2uw
      @Laura-je2uw 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +21

      @@ccpippin307the original bujo method (as described by Ryder Carroll)is actually very minimal, fast and simple to set up and maintain. Most bujo videos here on TH-cam do not show what it is really about. It is rather used as a creative and artistic outlet and hobby instead of what is was intended to be used for.

    • @Laura-je2uw
      @Laura-je2uw 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Yes, absolutely agree. You do not need more than one planner. The hobo cousin is perfect for me because it offers monthly, weekly and daily spreads. In addition I have a bujo for long term collections and another notebook for taking notes and journaling, that’s it. Any additional planner would completely confuse me. I also do not have a digital planning system.

    • @ccpippin307
      @ccpippin307 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@Laura-je2uw I'm familiar with bujo 🤷‍♀️ the time it takes for me has nothing to do with decoration.
      But hey, I get that people are comfortable with only one journal. My thing is, just because people use more than one, it isn't that whole "consumerism" thing. I don't buy because it's fomo or limited. Each one has a function. Some last a few months, others are years old.
      But I LIKE documenting things. It's my joy.

    Nice, useful video. Frequent system switching does naturally make us feel as if our planning efforts are failing. However, I believe that each time we switch systems, we have to re-evaluate what we are doing and why, and that's useful. In fact, I sometimes think that's the underlying impetus for switching. Ideally, being productive (and having peace of mind) with just one system is optimal, but I don't necessarily think we should feel guilty or like our system has failed if we do switch.

    • @RachelleinTheory
      @RachelleinTheory  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely! Personally, I think switching for me has so much more to do with wanting to FEEL productive rather than actually there being something wrong with my system. It's so fun to learn and switch it up, and not as fun to get your boring tasks done sometimes, haha. I'm trying to wait months in between switching anything up now, just so I can be sure if something really is or isn't working instead of just following my whims. Thank you for watching and commenting!

    I really like how you’re using Things and Notes together, I’d like to get back to using Things again and this seems like a good way to do it. I have the Common Planner undated which enabled me to redesign it in the Hobonichi Weeks style of days on left and notes on right. It is dreams. The thing that keeps me from planner switching is having a bunch of planners to store at the end of the year. I’m 41 so I have a ton of journals (and some planners but mostly I don’t save them) from over the years that I go though frequently. It’s taking up a lot of space! If it’s empty space I feel like it’s kind of wasted (which is why I recycled most of my planners).
    In fact the thing that keeps me from getting a
    hobinoci cousins is the fact that I don’t know i Can handle having a duplicate journal. I will rally want one…but I already bought my planner for the year

    I jump around, too, and when I do, it is taxing. I grew up in corporate life using Franklin Planners. Yes, that long ago! But their principles of planning remain. Start with the big stuff and the rest will fill in. Values, goals, weekly compass, daily to do. It's the thought process that is important, not the actual book. The other three physical planners: for fun, plannertube or just in case. (She could probably scan the layouts of all of these planners, sell them, and then never have to buy another one unless she's actually planning on using it for herself. Yes, things are moving digital! I am however a big believer in putting pen to paper as a way to slow down and focus. So my Day Free is mostly serving to help with those things. On the day to day level, I'm writing out my priorities and rewriting my schedule so that I can have the main things I need on paper, rather than on a digital device that has a bunch of distractions on it. The ONLY type of book I will have up to 3 of at one time is watercolour sketchbooks because some days I just feel like paintings different sizes. But anything more than 3 would give me anxiety. For memory keeping/art journals I can MAYBE do two if one of them is really small and dedicated to a specific thing.
    But for planners, if I had more than the little A6 planner I have now, I would give myself hypertension from all the anxiety 😂 because sketchbooks and my journals are undated so I can pick them up again at any time and abandon them for as long as I want. Whereas the planners I need are dated ones (I find undated too confusing and hard to plan ahead) so it’s very time sensitive. Not using my expensive little planner with stunning Tomoe River Paper to the fullest would make me feel so stressed and guilty.
    I got mine late so Jan and Feb are already empty and it feels so bad💀 my solution is to fill those pages (and any future blank pages) with recipes because I want to get better at cooking. Living on instant noodles is not doing me any favours 😅
    Something that is helping me keep up with the planner is to seriously limit the supplies I’m allowed to use. I can only use 8 zebra sarasa clip vintage gel pens and one fountain pen with one colour ink in it. That way, I can make it look somewhat appealing and keep it functional by not getting sucked too much into decorating it!

      I have Common Planner B6 undated and redesigned it in the Hobonichi Weeks style. I’m loving it! You could do it with the dated too and just white out the dates at the top, but I wanted Sunday start.

    I have regifted my common planners to my niece and sister. I am trying to sell two of my weeks, because I am just going to use Travelers Notebook inserts for finances and health. I have a HON for work planner. I did buy a A6 Take A Note for capture of tasks, and if i keep forwarding the tasks, then they are not important, and more of a someday/maybe. I will keep one weeks as my everyday carry to capture spending and maybe one habits, but just what I will have with me to record/capture life as it happens. I take it you have read Tiago Forte?

    I was gonna say I'm very baffled why it seems as tho the planner influencers are the ones who seem to have the most planner anxiet and no discipline or self-control or system or whatever that it takes to make decisions and stick with them-- and then also the same people who are complaining, commenting, making a point to bring up planner overconsumption and excess-- and then it all just kind of clicked that, oh, this is not a bug, it's a feature of monetizing your planner and productivity tools.

    • @thestationeryjunkie

      I agree. Most of the planner influencers I've seen buy all the things, have no plans how to use what they bought, complain, talk about planner consumerism, then repeat the same cycle. It's hilarious.

    Rachelle you mention David Allen's system is somewhat outdated. Which version of his book are you in, when you say this? I ask, because I currently have his updated edition from 2015. And if you have 2015 edition and still feel it is outdated, I would love if you made a video about this system specifically and what you are doing different from his system. ;) Keep up the great work and love your honesty! Your intro has me nodding a lot cause I did buy 6 planners for similar reasons "there must be a productivity system I haven"t met yet" and I already know that I'm gonna have the same issues. Almost tempted to just use a very simple Bujo along with a couple apps, but it feels like such a waste to have bought all of those :(

    • @RachelleinTheory
      @RachelleinTheory  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I TOTALLY know how you feel. Embrace the fact that it's a sunk cost! You already bought them, and the most you can do is build better habits and understanding about your buying habits in the future.
      It's also OK to just decide you are going to IGNORE certain spreads in your planner. I pretty much ignore the yearly spreads in my planner because I never have a good use for them. I don't reference them, I don't keep up with them. So I've just decided I can ignore them and still get a lot out of my planners. If the more "system-y" pages in your planners cause that anxiety, try giving yourself permission to just let them go, and use the rest of the planner with whatever system you already know works for you!

    One minute, its stop the planner consumerism and over spending, but then its back to buying the same five planners?? People really need to what works for them and stick to them. Content creators have to buy this stuff (or try for free) so they can keep the views up. Its really not hard to stay in the same planner. Its manufactured stress and anxiety.

      I only have two, one that's a daily for school (college student), and I've got one for Home to keep the house in order. And I only decorate with stickers, which I always get on sale. It's too expensive and we want to be mindful of spending for sure.

    • @tashmartin8869

      Sorry, I disagree to an extent. For example I have SERIOUS ongoing health issues from an accident that resulted in a reasonably decent traumatic brain injury. Before that I had NO IDEA that I couldn't just buy a "planner/diary."
      Sometimes I have to look at a weekly view to book an appointment in, or use my time/energy carefully and meal prep healthy meals. Sometimes I need somewhere for the "💩" I hate being reminded of to go. Like my pain medication infusions. Sometimes I need a paper catch all. Or my notes on my phone.
      And EVERYTHING I now NEEEDDDDDD to write down, I didn't before my accident. I could remember 10x the amount with no notes on my phone etc.
      I think Rachelle does a FAR better job than any social media/TH-cam planner in that, yes, she uses a variety of planners, but in a way that's educational, or informative.
      As in WE'RE ALL DIFFERENT, so she shows methods that haven't worked for her, but might for me. Or you.
      She's THE only TH-cam channel I watch for truly helpful info, not aesthetic bujo journals.
      Also she often uses back pages on planners she couldn't make work for her in her videos.
      I truly had NO IDEA that a "planner/diary" set up would make me realise it wasn't that "I" couldn't use one, despite knowing I NEEDED TO, I wasn't lazy, it just wasn't right for me, now I use a hobonichi cousin and within two months my Occupational Therapist actually said "I don't know WHAT you did/changed etc, but the change in your organization etc is tenfold better!" And for me, it comes down to as little as making sure I buy the dated version. I don't enjoy aesthetic, just neat, tidy, organized.
      But I initially had plan to make my own customized bujo. I failed EVERYYYYYYY time, I don't have the time or inclination or creativeness. And I mean no disrespect to those who do, I just couldn't make it work.
      Also, she saves SO MANY resources in her management planning and making aesthetic stuff a "last priority." What's the point in having hundreds of pens, stickers, washi etc if you still miss that appointment?!
      @rachelleintheory obviously, THANK YOU! I don't watch any other planning content except yours because it's not social media stuff, it's literally real life "I don't have time to f*** around!"
