      It's because of the aero package with that near vertical angle lipped rear spoiler and additional roof spoiler. That package created some of THE BEST plate racing EVER.

      I still believe it is, if you play Final Final Fantasy VI or III in US. They have this world called the Floating Continent which ends the first half of the game. By the end of the dungeon, the statues that maintain the balance of the world are rearranged by the villain which causes the world to go into an apocalyptic state. This is what happened when Dale died in NASCAR. Dale was the unifying and balancing force and when he died, NASCAR's balance and stability when along with it and then NASCAR was left without an icon and a leader.

    The most profound, prophetic, and downright eerie statement EVER made in NASCAR history was made just moments after "the big one" ( 18 cars crashing ) of this race, when Dale Earnhardt said over the radio to Richard Childress.....quote: "Richard, I'm tellin' ya, if they don't do something about these cars, ( meaning restrictor plate racing ) they're gonna get somebody killed"....end quote. Not long after Dale's death, Richard Childress revealed this in an interview. And what's even crazier, perhaps an EQUALLY prophetic & eerie statement was made just the day before this race.......again, by Dale Earnhardt. Terry Labonte stated that the day before the race, they were talking about how Dale Earnhardt was about to break Terry Labonte's "Iron Man" record for "most consecutive Cup races ever completed by any driver, and Dale said to Terry jokingly: "If I make it". Thanks for posting this entire race........it's the best quality I've seen yet on youtube.

      A couple of days before on practice coverage, Dale was wondering if the yellow line would ever be policed due to the aggressive moves. While the question was posed in a joking manner, truth was NASCAR did something about it after he died.

      I was there and had my radio on dales channel. He was stopped right in front of me during the red flag. I never heard dale say that. Dale actually wasn’t saying anything. I know what you are talking about Richard telling that but I never heard him say that. Dale was actually a big supporter of racing side by side pack racing. He was just in an interview the day before talking about it. He liked the new package because it was keeping the cars side by side. The pack racing didn’t cause him to wreck. It was cause by marlin, schrader, Wallace. People think sterling swatted his back end out. Or dale came down on him that’s not what happened. What happened is sterling was right on his tail which shoved air under dales car. Schrader shoved air under the right side of his car which makes you back end very light. And the final nail in the coffin was rusty Wallace. Now rusty just wanted to push dale so dale would brag on him. But rustys car and every car have a 3-4’ wake/bubble of air that’s building on the nose of the car. Rusty started advancing forward and the air from his car went up under dales and the back end came out from under him. It went from left to right because the g forces are coming left to right and the wind was possibly a semi cross wind. The combination of sterling, Kenny, rusty ramming air under dales car lifted the back end up higher and higher until he had no down force. Today you would get punched in the face for that because every driver knows but in 2001 dale knew the most on how the air flowed but the majority of those old guys they just couldn’t comprehend what the air was doing on the car. So the ignorance killed him. Today everybody knows not to be getting on a car like that shoving all that air under it.

    You can tell dale was fighting for his two boys in front of him on the last couple laps. He had TWO hands on the steering wheel that’s when you know he’s locked in. At least he went out knowing one of the two won that race. He literally created a 200ft gap between turn 3 to turn 4 unreal

      At that point of the race, I thought Dale was getting ready to win the 500 a second time, never knew Michael was even in the picture nor did I think that Dale was going to help anyone. This was 17 laps to go, the crap was on the line, I thought Dale was gonna go after the win, then he all of a sudden lets Michael in line and then he drove defensively, something I had never seen him do. And then all hell broke loose. What's lost in all this is that Rusty had to change a tire early in the race and went a lap down early on and Rusty Wallace ended up finishing 3rd instead of Dale.

First my uncle saw this race and when NASCAR announced when Dale Earnhardt had died, he was devastated and sad, when September 11, 2001 came into hand, things got worse for everyone. When the twin towers were attacked my family and friends were very very sad along w/ everyone else who saw it on TV. However that changed in 9/25/2001 when I was born. My family and friends were excited when I was born but in memory what took place. And when Austin Dillon #3 win the Daytona 500 in 2018 everyone felt happy emotional at the same time.

      Yes sir, 80s, 90s, and early 00s were the best. It started a gradual decline after this race, especially when they came out with the bullshit Chase points system starting in 04 that made it too much like playoffs in Football, Baseball, etc. Of course, they started jerry rigging with the rules so much every season it became too much of a pain in the ass to follow.
      And honestly, hate to admit it, but the sport is "too safe" now so to speak. Part of the thrill of watching auto racing is the risk involved and nowadays racing in NASCAR is probably safer than driving to the grocery store in your personal vehicle so it's not nearly as exciting or nail biting as it once was.

But he didn't think he should be the one to tell the world "Dale's dead", so that's why he was a little vague and evasive in the post race interviews. That’s exactly how I see it also, he may have even got it gathered up before it got to the wall. He was just about halfway thru 4 when the contact happened so the radius of the turn is pretty sharp there so he would have likely slapped it with the side like you were saying. It’s just a terrible set of circumstances that led to him hitting the wall almost flat head on. In those days without a HANS that usually meant serious injury or death. The last bit of info is what really happened with the belts. The dislocation of his ankle along with the broken ribs and sternum suggest he twisted to the forward and to the right on impact. A side impact may not have loaded the belt and caused it to dump. I watch this race and always hope the last lap plays out differently. #3 Always.

    • @vinewood8295
      @vinewood8295 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, Elvis gained a bunch of weight, was out of shape and finally had a heart attack, I think people saw that coming in the last few years of his life. The other 3 you mentioned though were unknown shockers when they happened, who woulda thought Dale Sr would be killed at the track where he won the most races & where his popoularity was arguably the strongest OR that JFK would be gunned down like that in front of all those people...

    The call on lap 29 On Rusty was b.s. He played it smart by hitting pit road instead of going back around the track, avoided laying down debrie and putting the rest of the field in danger. They hit him with some b.s. He couldn't gey slowed down enough because of a flat. I remeber this race vividly not onkly due to it being The Day but I had started recording all NASCAR races on the day before ad keeping them for my viewing pleasure and I watched this one oh so much.

    • @zanemarte9877

      They have pit road speed limits for a reason. Even with blown tires you can't speed down pit road for the safety of the crews and officials.
