    Thank you for providing sample images for download. A lot of other big TH-camrs don’t do this and they expect us to judge image quality on the sample pics shown in their YT video where it’s compressed. 🙏

    I thought it was just me who was noticing the softness of the lens! My Ricoh GR III seems sharper. Seriously debating selling the X100VI and getting a GRIIIX for smaller form factor and sharpness

    The part about liking the experience of picking it up - that matters to me a lot. I have Leica, Sony and Rico cameras. I have the same feelings about my a1 as you have about the a7R... great machine, no soul. I liken it to bicycles - which I used to sell. I had my main off-road rig, lots of tech, great for downhilling in Santa Barbara, but my favourite to ride was an old road frame (Masi) and some classic Super Record components. One of them I used for the main rides down Tunnel, the other I rode every day to work.

    Totally agreed with your assessment, Alex! It has a fair few quirks that would usually be a deal breaker for me but I've been absolutely loving it. I've made a promise to myself to pack it wherever I go (in a little crossbody bag) and it makes such a huge change to my usual R6 + 85 1.2 etc haha I also found the AF to be pretty woeful - even the focus, track, and recompose can be really buggy at the moment so single point is definitely the way to go. Great video once again!

    I currently have the V but for the battery, I have setup a button to be able to turn on and off the Wi-Fi connection quickly so that it’s only on right when I need it and I’ve never had issues :)

    Definitely had the same issue with using continuous AF and face detection. So I switched to Single AF and that seems to work well, which is weird because my X-T5 doesn’t have this problem.

      The lens is garbage

    • @darinwatkins747
      @darinwatkins747 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wouldn’t go as far as to call it garbage but it isn’t the sharpest lens, that’s for sure. It’s quirky and a little soft but gives you an old film like appearance.

    • @andrewcrossley2448

      @@JaJutWado you have one or just sounding off?
      I have one, and took a portrait of my wife using single shot mode, focusing on her eyes using the Reala Ace sim. It’s tack sharp. We zoomed in and zoomed in using an Apple Studio display and you can see every pore and ultra fine facial hair, the colour features from her iris and every eyelash. And this is JPEG on a razor sharp 5k display. If we displayed the same photo it would be about 10 by 8 feet and even then we’d be 4ft away playing pixel peeping.
      So maybe it’s a fine lens for the money? It’s certainly as good as most Sony and Sigma glass and far sharper than their top zooms.
      My Canon Ls are a bit sharper but then nearly every canon L lens costs more than the entire X100VI.
      As for ergonomics. It’s great for me and that’s before my small rig grip arrives.
      In contrast, I was using a $4k Sony full frame and top Sigma zoom two days back. Uncomfortable grip, very heavy and definitely front heavy, great big bulky lens, slow focus, not anywhere near as sharp as the X100VI in JPEG.
      The Sony images also look artificial on colour - like a shop demo setting of a Sony TV.
      That confirmed why I’m sticking with pro Canon gear and my new X100VI for travel, people, city work etc. It’s Sony that over hyped.

    Re: Eye Detect issue, did you use the camera in the Zone mode with Eye Detect? Fuji Continuous AF with Face/EYE detect works the best, if you put the camera in a Zone mode (Especially with large Zone) with Face/Eye Detect, Autofocus works the best in that settings. It is a Fuji thing, in Continuous AF the Zone always works better than All points selected.

    Last year I found a Fujifilm X100 at a thrift store for $32. It was untested, unreturnable but I took the chance and had to buy a battery and charger. It worked. I played around with it for a few weeks and then sold for $500. Fun camera. Are these P&S cameras worth the price? For me, not at all. But that's me. I would rather use my Sony A7 IV with a Voightlander 35mm f1.4 Nokton which is pretty small and amazing. The Fuji is super cool though but the premium they are commanding? Nah.

    I wanted the X100vi and ended up buying an SL3
    Yes the SL3 is a total different type of camera but for me I was looking to get something for my own life that’s different from my work cameras (Sony A1 and A7iv )
    And I’m so glad you said the images were a tad soft only because boy am I sooooooooo happy with the SL3 and the lumix 35mm 1.5 plus my voitglander lenses on it .
    I felt like I was missing out on “great images” but your statement kinda got rid of the fomo for me . :) love your videos . They are always to the point but thorough 👍🏼

      Let's be real. A7CR/A7Cii will be better in pretty much every way on paper. The one thing that Fuji will have going for it is the film recipes and design if they suit your preference.

  • @hdm-nm
    @hdm-nm 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Pixel level sharpness will never be the same on X-Trans/40mp APS-C/pancake lens versus CMOS without an AA filter/full frame/high IQ large lens. The pixel density of the XT5/X100VI is insanely small at 3.04µm, which is smaller than the GFX 100. And since X-Trans completely eliminates aliasing, the end result is more like a CMOS sensor with a heavy AA filter. Regarding battery, in addition to airplane mode, change IBIS from continuous to shooting only to further extend battery life.

    I played with a few of your files and I see what you're saying. They definitely aren't tack sharp but they make nice files. I have never had an X100 series. I've been curious. I think I'd be fine getting a T or maybe F. Not worried about a V or VI for sure. I think it would be fun to try one.

    • @andrewcrossley2448
      @andrewcrossley2448 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The V and VI has the mark 2 lens. My copy is very sharp. Do remember it’s a $400 ish lens and the innards of a $1400 XT5. In contrast just one Canon EF or R L series prime will cost more than the entire X100VI.
      Yes the Q3 has a razor sharp lens and huge sensor, but it’s so expensive, larger than the Fuji (especially the lens protrusion) and theft bait. The Fuji in black is small and unobtrusive. With a Nisi filter it’s also water resistant. At a fraction of the price it will deliver 85% of the Leica’s performance.
      Remember the simple economics of scale. Leica’s photography business is way smaller than Canon’s and I anticipate Fuji’s. Making small production run products in Germany adds significant cost not necessarily value for money. See the DP review team’s recent visit to the Leica factory for some info on this.
      I’m a Leica fan, having just helped run a field surveying course for my University Civil Engineering students. We use Leica total stations (about $10k each) and their excellent small levels. That is their forte - professional bullet proof, metal built, high performance instruments that need to work in all weather and near continuously, day in day out. Same for their microscopes and binoculars. The camera division is more for the nostalgia and pedigree credentials…and why not…for those folk who ‘must have the best of everything’…..for their motor yachts and Bentleys….
      I considered a Q3 but decided an X100VI is much more fun for travel and the film sim’s excellent for an older film generation shooter like me. I’m off to see the sights of northern Spain with my wife on the cost saving…..

    When the X100 first appeared in 2011 in Italy it cost around 750 euros. Today its price has more than doubled. Even appreciating all the improvements introduced, this, above all, certainly appears unjustified.

    Really don't think it's a small camera. X70, GRIII those are small cameras. This is just not as big as a FF with massive lens.
    Jacket pocket fine, stretchy jeans pocket at a push and you look ridiculous. So in the summer it's a bag or strap like any ILC. So in that sense you're not gaining a lot.
