Great question!! Performance wise, I would honestly have to say they are on par with each other. The slide to frame fit, build quality and action are the same. Although the Athena has a slightly better trigger, the BUL gives you all the same performance as the Athena for $2000 to $3000 less. I prefer the Atlas grip over the BUL but aesthetically the BUL wins. In my opinion, the Athena gives you better options for using it for competitions, EDC or home defense. I don’t ever see me using the SAS II Air as a EDC. I hope this helps. Sounds like a good versus too. I will be working on the one soon. Thanks for watching.
Hey Tim!! The MPA DS9 is only 1/2lbs lighter than the BUL. I was really surprised how the DS9 was on the BUL level. Both are solid triggers though. Thanks for watching!! Happy Holidays!!
Hey Nick. I never had the opportunity to shoot the Saw but just looking at the specs between the two. I believe the only difference is the weight and aesthetics with the Air being the lightest. The slightly added weight of the Saw would mostly likely manage the recoil better. In my opinion, all SAS II models have the best triggers and action so you can’t go wrong with either one. Thanks for the watching.
Hello! I know my price range is a little all over the place but, between the SAS II Air, the Rival SFX-S, the Prodigy, and the Grand Power X-Calibur Match, which one would you recommend and why?
Hello!! Well let’s see. Unfortunately I haven’t had the opportunity to handle or shoot the Grand Power but the reviews of it look great. I would have recommended the SAS II because the SAS II Air was my one of my favorites. The SAS II ergonomics, trigger, build and performance is amazing. With that said, I would recommend the Prodigy. The Prodigy in my experience is the best double stack 1911 to do modifications. I have three prodigies. One of them I bought used for $900 and sent it out to DSC Gunworks for modifications for another $745. I tell you. It runs just as good as the BUL. The Prodigy with a modified trigger, internals, and Bob marvel disconnector cut is an absolute winner. Aesthetically, the Bul SAS II wins hands down but overall performance and price point the Proidgy with modifications can run just a like mid-tier 2011. I hope this was helpful. Thanks for watching.
@@teamblacksmithllc thank you so much for your thorough input! I considered getting the prodigy and doing a handful of modifications on it since the aftermarket parts are abundant. I noticed I left one off though, what about the Walther PDP Match SF? Would you still put the prodigy over the PDP?
@@Qui11o no problem. Yes, I would still put the Prodigy over the Walther PDP. I had a Walther PDP but it just wasn’t the same as DS1911 or 2011. Now this is just my personal preference. The Walther works for a lot of people but just not me. The question you have to ask yourself is what do you intend to use it for? Competitions, range gun, or self defense. In my opinion you can make the Prodigy fit each of those categories. I would also recommend looking at some more reviews to determine which one works best for your needs.
@@teamblacksmithllc oh right! I left it off my original comment, but my primary focus is competitive shooting. I intend on getting a whole separate gun for conceal carry. So all the options I gave had competitive shooting in mind. But thank you for letting me know that you still prefer the prodigy. In all honesty, the 1911/2011 platform is by far my favorite, but I haven’t shot much of them. My experience in general has been limited with all firearms, but I’m worried about making a purchase and thinking “I should’ve bought x instead”. I’ve watched a lot of reviews (honest outlaw and the humble marksman were my favorite vids), but I had a difficult time coming to a conclusion myself haha
@@Qui11o picking the right one is never easy but whatever decision you make will be the right decision. Best of luck with your decision and competitions.
Good morning Marco!! I definitely like my MPA DS9 over my Bul Armory SAS II Air. The weight, balance, trigger and action feel so much better. The DS9 trigger is absolutely amazing. If money is not an issue, the DS9 is a solid choice especially their DS9 Open race gun. The BUL is the best option when it comes to the price. You get high quality for a great price in comparison to the other high end brands. I hope that his helps. Thanks for watching!!
Hi Cristian. I don’t use a thumb rest for my SAS II Air. Since I don’t have a rail on it. There is no option for me to get one on there. Currently Bul-Armory only makes a thumb rest for the SAS II SL and Radical models. I tried it run my Air model with the thumb rest but caused it not to fully cycle so I removed it. I called Bul and they told me it does not made for the AIR model. Here is the link to it. www.usa.bularmory.com/online-store/SAS-II-Slide-stop-with-thumb-rest-Stainless-steel-9mm-45ACP-40S&W-p459011372 Thanks for watching.
Good morning bro!! In my opinion, the overall design and aesthetic of the BUL surpasses the Staccatos. In my experience shooting both, the SAS II models have better stock triggers and slide to frame fit and action is comparable to the XL but exceeds the P. Although the BUL AIR does not rival the XC performance for obvious reasons. Comes at a better price for a great build and solid performance that could save you hundreds of dollars. Appreciate the question. Thanks for watching!!💯💯💯
