It would have been easy for togashi to make every enemy in the tournament some variety of evil or opportunistic but it's cool that he created a couple teams and characters that are just like our main cast and equally want to win and succeed in life. It's pretty good for yusuke's development as well.
I remember this fight in particular from years ago. "The Knife Match Death Match" as chu called it in the dub. A rather interesting concept for a fight that I've yet to see in any other anime. Two knives are placed about a foot a half a part from each other maybe more, the fighters take off their shoes and socks and press their heel against the knives. They stay like this and proceed to pummel the hell out of each other. The match ends when either one dies or they leave the line that knives have drawn.
This was Funimation in their prime. They also did a fun line in DragonBall when Piccolo Jr. Grew huge without ripping his clothes. Goku's response, "Whoa, how'd you make your clothes grow too?" We never did get a solid answer for that lol.
