Thanks for bringing up this episode...
Kunal is at his best home pitch. Great episode. We are very fortunate with communities preserving their identities and their culinary traditions alive!! Hope it continues in future generations and they take it seriously. Jai Maharashtra!!
I am a Kshatriya Paachkalshi (vadval). Thank you, Kunal for making this episode to introduce the OG communities of Mumbai and areas beyond. Many people in the rest of Maharashtra get confused with PP, Chaukalshi, Paachkalshi cuisine with South konkan and Malvan cuisine. So glad you made this episode by explaining the history and origins of these communities.
@@warriorforjesus9553 well other thing which may surprise you the Vadvals got rid of Portuguese control on Catholic Church around Mumbai. The Kupari were Brahmin origin.
@@warriorforjesus9553 very few people came with Chimaji Appa from Pune. Chimaji himself was not a very senior member of the family. The local catholic population rose against the Portuguese rulers due to persecution more or less same time. Even in Mumbai suburbs the local Catholic population rose against the Portuguese. In current binary religious Twitter style debate it appears unbelievable. But in 1700s and even today the Vadvals, Kunabis had more common with the Chitpavani speaking Konkanastha Brahmins compared with Portuguese. Please search chitpavani language on TH-cam sounds very different than modern Pune Marathi.
So far this is the best episodes Kunal. Being a CKP married into a GSB family,I can relate to Jayakar’s expression on ‘VANGI’ We (CKP) add dried shrimp (SODE) to everything too. This show made me nostalgic as I am based in NY . Thank you and keep bringing shows which educate us on our roots and rich history!Thank you to the families who highlighted tradition and opened their hearts and homes to us🙏
This is really great because every household have their own recipes and it shows depth of Indian culinary delights which is currently represented by very few dishes all over the world we need to unleash this treasure. Love this please keep it up
Being a PP I can’t tell you how much history of different cuisines we have, people get amazed by the combination. My aaji use to make pumpkin cake that’s like the most unique thing.
A fabulous episode of a very well kept secret cuisine. I've lived in Bombay all my life & except for the bomblache vade, I had never heard of these other dishes. The historical background was extremely interesting to hear too. What really got me is that the Pathare Prabhu community is even a smaller minority than the Parsi community & both absolutely have to survive, if for nothing else then for their foodscapes to survive. This was a delicious episode. 🤤🦐🦞🦀🐟😋
Lovely...Being a Vasaikar , I can firmly say the essence of Mumbai lies in the local/og communities that still thrive with great pride for their culture,food,attire....Wonderful episode...
I'm a vegetarian person. But I have enjoyed this episode thoroughly only because of beautiful narration in the context of origin, history , those beautiful ladies cooking with love and yes एक मराठी मुलगी म्हणून पण ❤
Beautiful and pristine episode ...! We Bengalees seem to share our love for fish (and especially shrimps [e.g., chingrir malaicurry]) with our dear Pathare Prabhu community! ✅
Solicitor Rajan Jaikar wonderful explanation from 1200 till 1947.What a mind. We need people like him to be talking abt India... A true connoisseur of history... We also need people like him who are unbiased and knowledgeable to teach at universities and schools young minds
Thanks for covering these rare Pathare Prabhu Recipees and their tradition to the larger audience. Super episode !! Loved the enthusiasm & passion for cooking shown by all the lovely ladies 🙏
Kuna Vijayakar relived so many memories of my dear PP friend the Mankar’s. Their cuisine was out of this world. Their culture, education their cooking outstanding.
Pathare prabhu, a unique community with unique food. I wish I could get to taste it some day. Kunal, yet another excellent episode and you performed very well in your home ground. Keep it up.
Kunal it is so refreshing to see you using ai vidoes to take the story further! This is one of the firsts in this country! Please a standing applause is due
Thoroughly enjoyed listening to the story of Pathare Prabhu and Bombay. And offcourse the superb dishes laid for you, Kunal Sir. Thank you for this fab episode, Team Khaane Mein Kya Hai ❤️❤️
Dear Kunal, So grateful for this episode. Was fortunate to have a few Pathare Prabhu friends in my college days in Mumbai. Savored these amazing dishes. I remember having veg version of Khadkhadla apart from the amazing seafood off course!
This is amazing. Please bring in more cusines from interiors of Maharashtra (or other places). These sre almost lost receipes. Also please describe the textures, grading, and art of Maharashtrian cooking..which most ppl are not aware. This is wonderful episode. Thankyou

This is such a great vlog….getting to know all the aspects of the Maharashtrian cuisine. Also would have enjoyed learning more about these recipes in detail.
Jaykar’s so good - pahila Devs cha❤ , her green saree, her red flower and so much warmth in her cooking - I wish to get a chance to eat her vade and kheema vangi - high class episode

Also the way Kunal talking in marathi with them.. really nice.. thanks for making this video
Kunal thanks for introducing me to the untouched cuisine of the Pathare Prabhus along with a little bit of their history. Loved every bit of it especially the use of dry fish with all possible ingredients. As you rightly said 'Mastach"
Such an interesting episode!!! More so because of the similarities with bengali cuisine, putting shrimps with vegetables, filling parwal with fish or mutton and so on. Very very interesting. Thank you.
Thank you Kunal for sharing Pathare Prabhu cuisine - Our country 's culinary ( on cultural )fabric is so nuanced and vivid that i think one life time isnot enough to experience it 🙂
Great episode. Lovely recipes. I am fortunate to have married to a Pathare Prabhu. And most of these delicacies are regularly prepared in our kitchen, with its aroma getting circulated all around our bungalow. When friends come home for party they start appreciating the food by its month-watering aroma even before tasting the food. But I found not all the youngsters of this community continue to cook these delicious dishes now-a-days and therefore the expertise is not being carried forward as it was expected. I am proud to mention that both my daughters love these preparations and CAN prepare them too! Though they are half Pathare Prabhu, foodwise they are 100% PP!
Its a beautiful episode, exploring the culinary delights of Pathare Prabhus. As rightly explained at 8.14 So...when they came from Gujarat and settled around Mahim, they adapted to the resources and food availability there, which prominently being a koli settlement was rich in fish and paddy crops, including coconut. There is also a very stark similarity in the recipes also like the Kolis. Nice episode.❤
कुणाल....तूला खाताना बघूनच, आमच्या तोंडाला पाणी सुटते !!. Great to know about Pathare Prabhu's origin & their unique preparation. Nice amalgamation of Brinjal & Shrimps & many more ❤
