Why is there a slight “delay” on the Chris King hubs before the sound fully gets ramped up? I have Enve wheels with Chris King hubs on my road bike and can’t figure out the reason behind that noise. Thanks
I think it's because when the wheel is travelling fast, not as many of the pawls engage so you get a deeper sound. Then when it slows down a bit, all of the pawls engage which creates a higher pitch and louder noise
@waquzy I feel like google has failed you my man. The ONLY maintenance ive done so far on my R45s has been changing the pawl springs and that didn't even need to be done. It just brought it back to its former glory sound wise lol And he's actually correct. As a KC slows down more pawls engage and give it that high pitch swarm of Bees sounds everyone loves. There literally a gazillion videos explaining why it is the way it is. I own all of the king hubs and live them. There nothing like ANY if DTs offerings and surely do NOT have a ratchet system. In not sure were you got that from but they have failed you. Next in going to build a set of Hydras. Just love the CLICK CLICK CLICK!!! Anyone has I9 wanting CK lets swap? 😊
@waquzy The more I read your comment the more I realize how completely full of shit you truly are. This is one of the unfortunate side effects of google now a days. EVERYONE is a damn professional. Your shot bro. For one, king hubs have fewer points of engagement than DT'S 72 tooth upgrade. King doesn't use the "Ratchet" type system at all. But even on Dt's there's still "Pawls" lol Thats what creates the actual point of engagement. The more pawls, the more POI. The same goes for slots or teeth on the "Ratchet" or whatever else you call it. Some use springs to engage the pawls and some like project 321 use magnets. Every damn hub out there has 360°s of engagement?? Its how many POI within that 360° that make the difference whether it be with more pawls or teeth on the drive ring. The actual teeth on the pawl also help with POI. Some almost have like 2 teeth, with Chris king at faster speeds, only half the points of engagement come in contact with the teeth at higher speeds. In turn it creates half the drag. All the POI only benefit you at slower speeds. Like Techy rock sections were a backpedal of any kind is bad. So they shape the pawl a certain way so that at speed only half the POI engage. At slower speeds were it actually matters it has full engagement with all the POI hence why its louder. Sorry for the novel here but GOOGLE has failed you along with so many others and you clearly have no fucking clue what your talking about
