Matt, this is so funny that you posted this today. I am struggling with this right now myself, was doing eBay and for the most part can do almost all of it myself, the only thing I cannot do is post new ads. Thank you for the encouragement, and the ideas and I have done a lot of the steps that you have suggested, it does work. I actually worked for 24 years, and unfortunately I’m now on disability. But as you know you cannot survive on disability, I also have owned rental properties in the past, but unfortunately cannot get a loan now to buy another one. Thank you and keep up the good work

First, you never mentioned getting a good education. Second, the jobs you do require the help of another person who is sighted. It’s fine if you are sighted and can provide your own transportation but if you are blind, transportation is a major issue. I am blind and have a BS in political science from UCLA, a Masters in rehab counseling from San Diego State U, a law degree and certified as a professional mediator and for a major law school in Los Angeles. I have a good and constant income I don’t depend on others to do my work or help me do it. The answer to the question what job can I do as a blind person, is any job that does not require vision, it is that simple. So, revise your income talk to include a good education and degrees. As to being a translator or interpreter, most good paying jobs in that filed require certification which is not easy to pass.

Unfortunately our society still far from really understanding the potential of visually impaired people as a worker or contributor to the society. That’s way more than 70% of blind or visually impaired people do not have a job, not because the lack of formal education but because of the difficulties we have convincing employers that we are good on what we do. Fortunately for other they have been able to be creative and establish their own businesses. Matt, you mention a lot of good ideas and your words of encouragements are going to help a lot of people. Thanks for mentioning me 😀.

I couldn't take profit in 2017. Would have forfeited SSDI n Medicare. Meds are 1200 USD month. Since formed Trust with EIN number for Social Security n IRS. Now income or profits won't affect benefits.

💯after going on fruitless job interviews, I decided to use the skills I’m blessed with to go into business for myself. It’s slow going, but things don’t happen overnight. 👍🏽👍🏽

So i'm really into podcasting, and editing podcasts... am terrible at figuring out how to monetize and increase our listener counts though. Got any suggestions?

Thanks for the shout out. All the money from Blind Grilling goes to providing grilling packages to veterans and 1st responders who have suffered vision loss. We cater and teach classes locally but all funds go into the organization to help others. I am blessed to work full time to support my family so the grilling thing is to give back to others. Great ideas though.

I'm registered blind and decided 3 years ago to get into teaching in supported learning. It's hard work, but already leading to new opportunities.

I love this video! You really shine a positive light not only on being a blind job seeker but also on being blind in general. Even to this day, I still find myself using the whole “I can’t” logic abd feeling afraid acknowledge my blindness.

Hi Matt, this video is really encouraging and from reading the comments, which I always do, you have given many people a great deal to think about. You are so right when you say to think of the things that you enjoy doing and think of all the things that you can do. And many of these ideas are things that can be done directly from home. This is just a really great video and thanks for sharing hope!

Hello Matt! Today we had our volunteer luncheon ceremony. Now I haven't been there long enough to gain enough hours for an award/pin. Tomorrow, when I go in for my volunteer shift, I am going to ask to volunteer more than one day a week. Some of the people that also volunteer at the hospital are impressed when they realize/find out that I am a visually impaired/blind volunteer. For the past few months, I go in once a week in the cancer institute and sort paperwork for the breast cancer department. I use my Eschenbach magnifier so I can see the names on the papers to be able to sort them in the right folders. I also hole punch papers and put them in binders/folders. Waiting to get Zoomtext put on their computer so I can start doing data entry on the computer.
