  • Today we are getting up our potatoes, the vines are dead and if we leave them they could possibly rot or sprout. This is the earliest either of us remember our potatoes being ready! We are a little concerned with them keeping throughout the heat, but we will do the best we can! Tonight for supper we are having simple baked chicken legs, leftover green beans with new potatoes, stewed squash and FRESH corn!! We are so thankful for our beautiful potato harvest!

Barefoot and driving a tractor while his dad encourages him- core memory created. This is the stuff he’ll reminisce about when he’s an old man.

Meagan, I just know your beautiful momma’s heart was “swoll up” 😉💜 watching your dear husband teach y’all’s son on that tractor. Watching generational knowledge being shared, what a gift. Knowing this is a skill that will help him to care for himself and his own family once he’s grown. It’s a privilege to watch, and a beautiful sight for this old grandmas heart. I pray every day that this world will get back to focusing on family, on being more neighborly, and most of all, living as Jesus intended for us. Your beautiful, young family gives me hope. Thank you for sharing your life with us. I pray you inspire more and more young folks to do the same. God bless you all and everyone who reads this. ~Lisa

That was a great tater harvest. Jacob did a fine job on the tractor plowing up the last row, he handled it well. It'll take a while to get that smile of his face but that's okay. Maggie did an awesome job picking up the potatoes too. That supper was divine, all that awesome fresh veggies prepared just right, what a treat for all the hard work involved growing it. Great job Megan. You all stay safe and keep up the good videos. Fred.

Fun fact: Andy is actually pulling a “rotary cutter” through his taters, not a bush hog.(that’s not a criticism, me and everybody I know call them all bush hogs too!)Bush Hog is a brand name, and was invented, and the company founded, in Selma Alabama in 1951. “Bush Hog” has become the colloquial name for all rotary cutters, much like all tissues are Kleenex regardless of who made them. Bush Hog has been in continuous operation in Selma (my hometown) since it opened, and continues to this day. I actually played on the Bush Hog sponsored little league baseball team while growing up in Selma. If you’re ever down that way, stop by, and then eat some of the best BBQ you’ve ever had at Lannie’s right around the corner!

About 7 years ago, my husband bought me a really nice chef knife for my birthday and it has been life changing! I cook everyday and it’s been so helpful and made things so much faster! Your garden looks beautiful! I’m experimenting today…I let my yard long beans go too long and thought well, I’ll shell them and see how the beans are.

Here on Vancouver Island Canada BCI leave my potatoes right in the ground all winter cover them up with Maple leaves and dig them as I use them during the winter last year though I didn't eat any potatoes out of the garden because I get a 5 pound bag from the food bank every month that's too many potatoes for me as it is but this year I'm digging all new potatoes because the two potato gardens I got are absolutely full of potatoes crazy full but I sure like all the new potatoes I got them a yummy so I go out and dig a bucket of potatoes every week of new small baby potatoes so the very tiny ones back into the ground and I don't have to buy potato starts i've only bought potato starts one year and that was the first year I started from then on I just put the little tiny tiny ones back in the ground and I get potatoes every year and no they're not in rows and no I don't hump up the rows they say if you have at least six inches of loose dirt you don't have to hump your potatoes so I don't bother with thumping the potatoes maybe I don't get as many potatoes from a plant I don't know I get enough potatoes from them

  • @jvin248

Hoping this year, will actually SHOW people that things are rapidly becoming different. The seasons, unpredictable weather, we will probably have to make some major changes in growing food. I’ve noticed over the last several years but now, everybody is noticing that things are not like they were when we were younger. I suppose we will come up with some solutions together, as we go forward. ❤

West Phoenix The early growing season is over because of the heat. Our second season starts in late September, thru to Dec/Jan depending on frost. We rarely go below 40. I call this time our WINTER because of the HEAT.
