Thank you for the fantastic video. I will be following you on the Vendee. Many fans are also sailors, I appreciate the more technical information. 8 years ago Rich Wilson finished the Vendee with a similar boat. I think the keel head went all the way above deck and all the hardware was on deck. He did not have water ballast on that boat. 4 years ago he had a boat with water ballast and he really liked the water ballast. I hope you can send videos from the race. I always appreciate a Vendee video that is in English.
Brilliant video...."This is my protection" points to a 3ft open porch area in the cockpit..crikey. Incredible. Amazing woman! And what an amazing competition...! I have ultimate respect for these sailors...
Pip - routing for you all the way. I love your enthusiasm and how you have started with a budget of close to zero and have gone for it anyway. Your desire and will to get to the start line despite the overwhelming financial needs is so impressive and should be a lesson to many about overcoming adversity through the power of hard work and the will to succeed.
Amazing to see inside the boat like that. I didn't know any boats on the VG fleet didn't have all the sheet going back to the cockpit! Very hardcore. Thank you for sharing!
The boat looks vintage compared to some of the others, you are doing an amazing job in the race, a real inspiration for many out there, live the dreams
YOU GO GIRL! Seems a bit daunting to have those added “challenges.” Be safe, be strong and God’s speed and breeze. From Colorado, USA. I’ll be following you.
So brave, so gutsy - what an inspiration. I will be following you and rooting for you all the way, Pip. Ritzy glitzy doesn't always win, slow and sure might!
this is so interesting. explains a lot of mysteries in how such boats are operated. In a race like the vendee surely simplicity and reliability play very well. good luck
👍 That's awesome, having a go with such an "antique" yacht . I've done a tiny bit of "easy" solo sailing, so I'm hearing you! Best wishes for your personal challenge, from an Aussie. 😎
Well Done Pip Hare , I am thrilled for you competing in a very exciting sport , battling wind and waves around the world , preparation and logistics are very important for a 3 month voyage . Perhaps Medallia with simpler gear may have less to go wrong , one hope's so . Very Best Wishes for a safe and winning race .
Looking forward to following along with Pip's adventure... It will be interesting to see how different the performance is of the newer boats and one a few generations old...
I would be very happy if she won the race! And, I, I would very quietly buy a custom made expedition sailboat from KMY in Holland with the money earned from the bet ... So, Pip, for England!
Let's see how far she will get. Alone the fact that she has to do all the sailsetting at the mast sounds demanding (imagine that in the South Pacific).
Would be a good idea to add some cover around the opening of the canting keel, as that will slow the boat down significantly (the washing machine sound isn't free). Rubber lips mounted flush with the outside surface should do a great job there.
Fantastic!!! What a personality. Ill be supporting you along the way. Do you intent to have a separate TH-cam Channel, where can we follow your journey?
is there a reason the boat doesn't have a shield or something to smooth over the canting keels opening on the bottom of the hull? Surely some sort of shield that moved with the keel would improve the speed if it is becoming like a washing machine in there
Yes I love hand steering as well but after 12 hrs on the tiller (auto pilot is stuffed) i get a bit tired. Following you along with many other Sea Wolves (current date 27th dec 2020) and you are in 17th (south of aukland island)14 miles behind Arnaud Boissieres. Keep the pressure on ...... HOOOOWWWWWLLLL from the sea wolf pack.
Incredible what a Lady!!
Be cheering you on and keep safe
That's an amazingly tough and intelligent lady right there

Love that boat. The simplicity makes for no excuses.

Saw Medallia in Poole last week with riggers on board. She's looking great ...

Really interesting video, wishing you all the best on your 24000 mile trip.
I would be very happy if she won the race! And, I, I would very quietly buy a custom made expedition sailboat from KMY in Holland with the money earned from the bet ... So, Pip, for England!
I do not envy her having to sail this imoca around the world... absolute legend
You are so cool, I am looking forward to following your race. Best of luck
I will be rooting for you, Pip, good luck and leave those modern Imocas in your wake. 👍

Lovely woman and a real role model for young girls.

As the foilers drop out, Pip may find her and Le Cam the last two standing! True SeaWolf!
Respect!!!
As if she's attempting to win Paris-Dakar with a modified 2CV. I''m rooting for Pip this edition of the VG.
Sounds like a bit of a legend
Incredible lady, safe passage
Hmmm, big undertaking knowing before you start your equipment is not in Bristol Shape. Interesting indeed.
Awesome!
What happened to initiative couer. Or is that Sam davies
That's Sam Davies
Now, five months on, we KNOW how tough both boat and skipper are.
I hope reliability will give her a good result.
Go Pip 💪💪💪
Respect
Good luck lady , anytime you need a crew .
A truly five stars hotel...!!😂😂
Thx flip flop sandals are a no go on board!
Why?
What does she do if she breaks a finger nail?
Total boss
SEA WOLF !
As your technology is behind your competitors what are you hoping for?
To survive.........
One of her aims is to beat Dame Ellen Macarthur's time.
The title show be Toughest Women in the race.
Don't worry pip , the boat is not aware of its age .!
I really think this boat is a horrible idea especially for a woman.
Awesome!
