Congratulations on this wonderful work! Thanks for sharing with your followers. It's inspiring. My grandfather was Carl Rogers, who I'm sure you know as a pioneer of person-centered approach. I'm caring for my wife with dementia right now. Don't want to ever go to a facility because of the poor care.
I applaud you and those working with you towards this goal - seeing my mother decline in a memory care unit that was not equipped or seemingly even motivated to engage with the patients more than at feeding times was a real eye opener for me. Music is indeed medicine and I did what I could to help bring more music in for them - they all responded so beautifully when music was playing as if they had been watered after a long drought. I never could understand why they didn't make this simple free activity more of a daily event than weekly. There is so much more involved than just offering music of course but I love that you mentioned it. I hope the work you and others are doing on this front spreads far and wide.
Thank you!! I watched grandparents and then both of my parents develop dementia. Sadly, the nursing homes were not very good. Because I lived far away, I was not able to visit very often. It broke my heart and I know that some day it will be me.
I’d encourage you to connect with Bill Cummings from the Cummings Foundation (in Massachusetts) as a possible philanthropist for your dementia projects.
@@mauraabate8874 thank you! Looks like they only support Massachusetts organizations. We are very lucky to have generous funding currently through The Foundation of FirstHealth in Moore County, NC.
