We also went to old faithful about 10 years ago and saw a handful of people walking near the hot-springs off the trails. Some people are just idoits. If you want your face boiled off, go for it. I have been to old faithful for the first and most likely last time this past year and it's a wonderful location for anyone to visit. With looking where they were filming him, I was sitting in this same location as well on the boardwalk just being behind the huge visitor center in Yellowstone . Old faithful with the volcano burst of steaming hot water is nothing to play with at all that is why they have the boardwalk not to pass. Unfortunately they do not have a rope fence or any type of fence on the boardwalk really to stop people from entering this area which I would suggest them to do. Most people know not to cross the boardwalk on the other side but appearantly some still do like in this video.
The liquid in those geyser and hot springs can also be very acidic, don't do this unless you really have a death wish, and even then don't pollute the park with your crappy corpse.

I've done some stupid things in life, but never would I get close to a geyser, much less stick my head in one. Concerning wild animals, I was at Yellowstone back in 2006, and was with this couple. We were off the side of the road, watching some young elk, and this guy I was with, decided to approach one of them, and the elk started snorting very loudly, so he quickly backed off. I knew better to approach any wild animal, they are too unpredictable.

Seems like a pretty simple solution. The laws need changing NOW. You go off the boardwalk, it's a $500 fine. You ignore the park ranger's instruction, another $500 fine. Getting too close to the animals and putting people in danger, a $1000 fine. Now.....as far identifying the idiots involved? There are MANY people who would gladly record these knot-heads, would then follow them to their cars, and get a license plate number. Upon turning this info into the proper authorities, it will be pretty easy to find the perps, impose the fines, and give the person who recorded the event 10-20% of the collected fine amount. You'll have all kinds of people tattling on these fools. There's no getting around the fact that money speaks. Although I would be HAPPY to turn the jerks in without payment because ultimately they end up ruining things for the rest of us. Whether it's destroying nature, harming the animals, placing lives in danger, or whatever.....big money fines are the ONLY things that make these idiots sit up and take notice. Kimberly you are gorgeous ! Please do not let any of the negative comments get to you! You were just at the right place at the right time! I am sure you are not the only one that captured pictures of these idiots! I hope you and your family had a wonderful vacation and do not experience anything bad from this out come. To state the obvious you do have a life. However this is the internet and well as you know there will always be negative comments. I personally just wanted to post a positive one for you and to let you know that it took guts for you to take and post the pictures and talk to the rangers. Along with being able to do an interview via video chat with GMA! Just Wow! I applaud you! Good Job!
